Great to see so many of you at the Vancouver screenings! We really appreciate all the support, enthusiasm and the laughs! Our first Vancouver screening was completely SOLD OUT! The second Screening, on the first sunny Sunday Vancouver has seen in months, saw an impressive 90% turn-out...nice to know that glorious weather can't stop you Mars fans!
A lot of people have been asking about when and where future "A Dog's Breakfast" screenings will be taking place. Jane and I are certainly looking into getting some more planned, but because I'm tied to the West Coast with shooting Atlantis, these will probably have to happen without us in attendance. We'd like to be there to meet you all at every screening, but I don't want to limit the films theatrical screenings to only where we can get to (So far they've all been where we are...thus the disproportionate number of Western North American viewings!). The job of organizing these screenings falls, almost entirely, on Jane. So there's only so much the wonder woman can do! Just know that we're doing everything that we can to get this puppy to a screen near you! Keep those requests coming in and feel free to bother local cinemas and festivals on our behalf! If they need some incentives tell them that not only do these screenings sell-out, they bring in huge sales at the concession stands...cause a movie is just not a movie without tasty treats...which I'm hoping you will fire out of your nose when we crack you up...maybe don't tell them that part!
Yet more people have been asking about who they should be writing to in order to get our puppy out on DVD and television and such. If you are going to write (which we would really appreciate!), can I suggest that you do it in the form of a thank-you? We all really appreciate what MGM has done...and will be doing for "A Dog's Breakfast" so please, let them know how great they are for picking up the movie. Especially Charlie Cohen! He really got the ball rolling for us on that! Give him a warm thanks and let him know that you're really looking forward to seeing "A Dog's Breakfast" on TV, DVD and beyond! For those old fashioned folk who still use the Internet then why not request "A Dog's Breakfast" on DVD from the MGM store...but that doesn't get you out of those letters!...if MGM got half as many thank you cards as I got "How are you so awesome?" postcards we'd be their biggest seller!
Jane and I are also just beginning to look into the merchandising side of things (I know, I know, about time! But we've had a lot going on!) and wondered about what sort of breakfast goodies you might be looking for. I know that a lot of you have made some great stuff happen with Cafe Press, but I'd love to get some "official swag" going as it all helps towards paying deferrals to our magnificent crew and bringing the next film that much closer to reality. We've got some ideas but feel free to post your suggestions on the Squirrel Marketing Forum and we'll keep an eye on the response!
A few Atlantis-free days coming up, so I'm hoping to get a little work done on the next script and fire up some dGeek updates...yay! And just for the record... I AM SO SICK OF THAT DAMN PUDDLE JUMPER! "Nanites and replicators and wraith, oh my!" All week in that little easy bake oven of a set! Maybe it will have a nasty little accident when nobody is looking!?

just one thing Written by GoGlowy on 2007-04-02 23:11:30 YAY for DAVID! |
Written by Mercury973 on 2007-04-02 10:54:35 Consider the letter done. I will pimp it out to my friends with free time on their hands. I was at the 2nd showing, and I am so happy that I got to see the movie! There is a month long film festival here in Seattle in June. I'll send them some info and see if they're interested. The con weekend was too fun. You looked as tired as I was that weekend. Not much sleep. I was also the one that you waved to when you and Jane were driving off. |
Written by nanook660 on 2007-04-02 09:46:33 Consider my task nearly done. I already sent in my two cents to MGM and now for the next stage. Heck I would promote or try to get the ball rolling for anything David does. Back to my hand cramping (attempting using pen and paper to write the letter. Probably will need to seek medical help and ask to be place on those "happy drugs" LOL...Doing the Rodney McKay walking wounded routine. Peace Fran |
Written by Gate Geek on 2007-04-02 08:19:19 OMG!! ADB Screening really was one of the two highlights of my trip to Vancouver. The other being the Atlantis set tour of course. I don't think I laughed so hard at a movie before. Witty and quite fun. And to actually see you in person (again) - Holy Bleep! Uber Cool! THANK YOU for arranging the screening during the Con. You had a screening, it worked out so I could attend - nothing like having my cake and eating it too. Off to write some letters.... |
Paul... Written by allison on 2007-04-02 05:45:24 What a good idea, watcher652. I think Paul should accompany the movie for a bit when you can't go. That would be awesome. |
More puddle jumpers? Written by Dew on 2007-04-01 18:01:02 Are we ever going to find out what the REAL name of those things are because I don't think Mattel was around back then to name them Easy Bake Ovens? Also have to say thank you for the screenings in Vancouver. It was such a nice actually relaxing drive up from Seattle and was funny to explain to the border guard that yes I was going to just go see a movie. Twice. Silly guys up there. And did John really plan to wear that sweater or does he just really like it? Finally, another thank you for totally ruining Paul McGillion for me. I'll try not to give anything else away other than I so was not expecting anything like that and it's been bad enough that when he uses the Scottish accent he makes me think of my Uncle Paul (he's regular way for speaking is too much like my brother, Paul, when he's being an ass which is almost 100% of the time) but now...well my uncle is my mother's brother and just ugh. Can't even look at the guy now. Thanks David. I'll just go write some letters now. |
Written by APMC4CB on 2007-04-01 16:28:20 done and done! Hope i got the correct address and put enough stamps on!!

Written by Erynn on 2007-04-01 15:23:18 I had tickets for both showings but only made it to the second. Wish I could have been at the first as well, but my schedule didn't work out. To be honest, the only "official merchandise" I'd be interested in for ADB is the dvd itself. I'm not really that much of a tchatchke collector. I loved the movie, though, and really really want to have a copy of my very own. I haven't laughed like that in ages. |
Written by sandyurbahns on 2007-04-01 13:13:15 Glad to see you had a great turnout. Any chance we will get a screening at Dragon Con in Atlanta in September. Please, please, please, this squirrel is going nuts hearing all about ADB and not being able to see it! |
Written by Zerocool on 2007-04-01 12:11:00 ohhh more squirrel marketing.... it will have to wait until later this week, I've just moved house and am stealing a neighbours wireless Normal service to be resumed as soon as possible |
Written by the_spike on 2007-04-01 01:47:51 It was fun. You guys were very gracious, entertaining hosts. We laughed and we still got to go out in the strange yellow light for a while. Thanks! |
Saw sceening Written by kerravon on 2007-04-01 01:06:04 Managed to do the 06:30 set tour, get back to the hotel and snag a cab, make the theater in time for the first screening, then hail another cab to get back to the hotel before the celebrity breakfast was over...and know what? ADB was worth every nerve-wracking second of schedule juggling it took!!! I especially appreciated the discussion on why a certain scene wasn't reshot... |
Written by Kate28 on 2007-03-31 23:09:14 Ooh I'll send a thank you card to MGM! Thanks again for another wonderful update. I got my daily dose of the giggles, now I'm a happy chicky. |
Written by spamco on 2007-03-31 22:03:55 haha, best line of the whole update? I AM SO SICK OF THAT DAMN PUDDLE JUMPER! Classic. Just classic... I would find that amusing...*shakes head* |
ADB screenings without you? Written by watcher652 on 2007-03-31 17:40:46 Pesky full time job getting in the way of your ADB screening attendance. Just because you have to earn a living... While it wouldn't be the same without you, I'd still love to see the movie in a group setting, even if it isn't in a theatre. And since it doesn't seem like you're going to be able to make it to the US East Coast anytime soon, how about sending it with Paul when he appears at the convention Shore Leave this summer? While we wouldn't get all the behind the scenes director/writer insights from you, Paul could give us some of his views in working with you in other than a co-actor role. Hmm, maybe you don't want that getting around? Could Kate host a screening in Toronto sometime after her run in "Noble Parasites"? And, awww, that picture of Mars is just adorable. It makes him seem so much shorter than crotch height. Thanks so much for keeping us up to date. It's like the movie belongs to all of us. |
Written by rosiewook on 2007-03-31 16:32:25 There must be some sort of practical joke that could be done in the puddle jumper set that won't actually cause damage, but would allow you to vent some of your frustrations over filming in it. I'm sure, with all of the devious squirrels around here, that we could help you come up with something! Glad to hear you've scored a few days off. We'll get busy taking care of the MGM stuff for you! |
Define breakfast goodies Written by Aten on 2007-03-31 16:08:56 My mind went in two very different directions when I read that. No, nothing like THAT! Ooooh, the mere IDEA of official merchandise is enticing. My capabilities are severely limited, but I'll do whatever is in my power to get things going. By the way, wild laughter was the express reason why I DIDN'T buy snacks in L.A. That and the intense butterflies I was having at the time. And hey, if you really want to get rid of the jumper, send it down the coast to Culver City. I know quite a few people who would happily take it off your proverbial hands. |
Written by AylaMc on 2007-03-31 16:06:15 thrilled that the screenings went well - though I had no doubts that they would, If I can find the time between 60 hour work weeks and chemistry studying (sleep? who needs sleep!?) I'll do my best to get a big THANK YOU to MGM. I know they deserve it, and gosh darnit, but I want to see this movie! (Any chance in getting a screening out here in Halifax? Even without you there, sad as that may be?) Aww, don't hurt the puddle jumper! She brought us the greatness that was Grace Under Pressure! (THAT must have been an absolute JOY to shoot - cold, wet, and small spaces, wee!) |
Written by MdGateFan on 2007-03-31 13:31:33 Like others I am glad to hear the screenings went well. As for other possible screening, I can see why that pesky job you have can get in the way of traveling all over to show the film. But I do agree with the suggestions that you look into scheduling them around cons - even if you won't personally be attending said con. The Stargate Creation cons are a good idea but you could also look into some of the other fan run cons such as Shore Leave (which I just noticed has listed Paul McGallion as one of the guests so there will people there to see him - thus a built in audience.
|
Written by Shawna on 2007-03-31 12:17:25 What a photogenic little pooch. Aww... So, what is this, a sequel to Grace Under Pressure or something? Did you do so well in that one they thought they just had to have you trapped in a jumper again? |
Donuts Written by allison on 2007-03-31 11:32:36 Well, at least being in an Easy Bake oven means that your and Nykl's secret donut stash will stay warm and fresh *ha ha*. I'm surprised that Mckay hasn't installed a microwave into every puddle jumper for in-flight popcorn moments. Gaw. Mars is just too damn cute Thank you so much for writing! And, "Why is Janeso awesome?!" *ha ha* |
Written by teknikal on 2007-03-31 08:27:46 news report puddle jumper destroyed in freak accident woo hoo congrats on the great vancouver screenings!!!! we could do a 'why are you so awesome campaign' for MGM!!!! ***my sister has just seen that picture of mars and now wants him...lol** |
Written by casey on 2007-03-31 06:15:56 That's very cute pic of Mars - he must be very well behaved and loves the camera! Uh, I would be interested in buying a DVD of ADB as I missed about 20 mins of the beginning of the movie in London and I understand that screenings in Australia may not eventuate (due to yours and Jane's other commitments!) I like the jumper scenes actually and I thought it should be cosy ...? All 4 of you snuggled up together? Isn't that nice??? Mind you, stick me in a small enclosed spot with my work colleagues and I may start whinging a bit even if I like them! Take care and give the mutt a patt from me, ok? He deserves it! |
Ah, you love it really! Written by Squonk on 2007-03-31 05:51:45 So, you've got a few days off and you're going to spend them - working!?! Are you mad! Glad the screenings are going so well, though hopefully there haven't been too many "firing out the nose" incidents (there's an image i could've done without!) Let's hope the letter wrinting has the desired effect - good point about making them thank you letters. And looking forward to seeing what merchandise you come up with. Love and hugs |
Written by simby on 2007-03-31 04:32:49 wicked awesome |
Written by Becky S. on 2007-03-31 02:04:20 I'm so glad the screenings went so well! AS mush as we all would love you to be at every screening, we all understand about your schedule. And eventually, you and JAne will meet all us squirrels. For now, we'll just worl on getting letters to MGM. |
Written by Vikitty on 2007-03-31 01:55:38 I'd go nuts in that small space. How on earth did you guys fit so many people AND a film crew in that puddle jumper for Submersion? O_o Mars was so freakin' adorable at the Vancouver screening (as were the humans with him )! Thanks so much for taking the time to do a Q&A. I totally wouldn't mind another screening in Vancouver. |
Daisy's and Written by windshieldbug on 2007-03-31 00:08:54 songbirds! No puddle jumpers in sight! Poor David, I'd hate to be cooped up in that thing for long. Thank you for word on who & what to write. I've already drafted a thank you to Mr. Cohen and the rest of the MGM staff working on ADB. Also, the request online. I was talking with a local cinema. They can hold around 100 people and love to do shows. I gave them this website along with how to contact you through here. Hopefully Jane can be her wonderwoman self and get ADB to Florida. Daisy's and songbirds....no jumpers in sight! |
Written by zwild1 on 2007-03-30 21:23:32 I just put in a request to the MGM store. Now, to write the letter, although just to warn you, it will be typed out in Microsoft Word. I just don't do pen and paper anymore, the laptop is just too handy and portable! |
Written by Stargate_Geek on 2007-03-30 21:18:52 What a cute pic of Mars *internet hugs* I wish I could have been there but nice to know you had a good turnout and other people had a good time:D |
Written by s_aurius on 2007-03-30 21:04:54 I'm so glad to hear that movie was such a great hit in Vancouver!! Wish I could have been there. Thanks for taking the time to give us a quick update and some little hints into season 4. I will make sure to write a thank you to Charlie Cohen this weekend! |
Wide Open Fields .... Written by amararti on 2007-03-30 20:44:40 .... wide open fields ... you are not stuck in a Puddle Jumper ... you're in a ..... oh well you know the rest eh? Never mind - you love it really don't you - well, maybe in retrospect. Glad to hear that ADB got such a lot of support and a great reception in Vancouver - I have added my thanks and plea to MGM. Shawna posted a great video of the Q&A session and it was nice to see you so happy and healthy (but that was before a week in an easy bake oven ). Evil Hewlett - I can so totally see you filling your little notebook with pithy behind the scenes jottings - all grist for the starcrossed mill - ha! A few days off - yay! Dgeeking - yay! Any chance we can get the Avatar function back?? Also - hope you enjoy the book ... Peace, love and for God's sake get some fresh air ... AMx

Lassie was a boy - what next? Written by taywolf on 2007-03-30 19:40:28 I think that you should take Mars to visit the puddlejumper and see what damage he can 'accidently' do. He is perhaps past his best chewing years but a spray of something tasty here and there might just tempt him. Thanks for supporting the SCB mob when they turned out. Hows about lending us Mars the superstar to help with our campaign. Best wishes with the DVD and screenings. |
Just a DVD feature query... Written by paxford on 2007-03-30 19:39:50 With the DVD "thank you" enquiries - is it okay to ask if they will be doing Subtitles/captioned versions - any idea if that would add to the costs and therefore not be polite? (I'm hearing impaired so really appreciate the well captioned releases) |
Written by pan on 2007-03-30 19:16:14 thanks so much for bringing A Dog's Breakfast to Vancouver! I made it there for the first screening on Sunday and I had such a great time! I will definatley write to MGM and hopefully with all of the other great fans here, we can make our DVD wishes come true! It's a hillarious film and I am grateful that it was able to be shown in Vancouver |
Showings? Written by OatmealFairy on 2007-03-30 18:48:55 What are the chances of there being a showing around the Chicago Creation Ent. Con? I'd request it the conventional way, but I don't actually live in Chicago. I just happen to have already bought tickets (me and Mum). Also, how much hassling does it take to get you to come with it? |
Written by Annie on 2007-03-30 18:30:50 Will start writing letters/requesting DVDs tomorrow - this squirrel is wimping out for tonight and going to bed. Am glad to hear the screenings went well, just wish we could help Jane organise some more screenings and take the pressure off her. |
Written by Netty on 2007-03-30 18:23:17 OMg! im first!! Thanks alot for writing David. Great to here from you! Im sure to request and write away for ADB!!

Written by Luna the Moonmonster on 2007-03-30 18:19:42 Nice to hear that there's something we can do to get the ball rolling. *goes off to write letter* And merchandise! That would be great |
