Wide Faced Mutt
Wide Faced Mutt

Don't know how exactly this happened, but the hiatus is over and it's back for Season Four of Stargate Atlantis!

First off you are going to love the new wardrobe. The uniforms are cool as all hell and they've even got us sporting serious leather jackets for our off-world missions. Saving the universe has never looked so good!

Tonight the cast are all getting together in Vancouver for a dinner with the producers. This is one of the great Stargate traditions. Before we dive back into a new season we all get to catch up over dinner and talk about everything except Stargate. For example, I will use the time to grill Jason about his new girlfriend and his new tattoo... if he's had enough to drink, I will probably get hurt for it ;-)

Wednesday morning we've got a readthrough (something we've never actually done before on Atlantis) for "Doppelganger" . Notice the timing? I would say, unfortunate, given that the night before may involved a glass or ten. I plan on sitting accross from a few bleary eyed actors that morning! I will be sure to speak loudly and bang around as much as I can in order to make Rachel's hang-over that much more miserable (I'm not saying she's going to drink too much, I'm just saying... never the last to leave, that's all... sorry Rach, couldn't resist it!

Kate is coming to town tomorrow for some rest and relaxation and a fair bit of writing I think. I told her that she's not welcome and that her timing sucks and that she should stick to her own kind, in her own city. She's coming anyway. What can you do? Looking forward to having some time to hang out with her... oh yeah! I won't because I go back to work the day she arrives...nice one Kate!?

I meant to do a wrap up on our Horrible Holiday's, but I'm not sure I've got the time to do it justice. Suffice it to say that the screenings were fantastic! Friends, family I haven't seen for ten years or more and so many of your happy laughing faces made for a movie premiere to die for! Which I was doing at the time, by the way. Sick as a dog for almost three weeks straight with a great bout of food poisoning the day before the actual screening! That made the convention a bit of an effort, but again, friends, family and the most pleasant gaggle of Stargaters one could wish for. Many thanks to you all for your support, your presents, cards, letters, snacks (stop with the snacks! I'm the size of a house!) and your funny, witty, heart-felt and snarkastic conversation... and of course the lovely squirrels! The event was a huge success and I think we even managed to raise a chunk of change for a few worthy causes! Looking forward to doing it again soon. Thanks so much to Brian and all of his incredible support team, you are a classy bunch!

Jane and I are flying down to San Jose on Saturday morning to be a part of the San Jose (strange coincidence) Cinequest film festival. We're going to be screening "A Dog's Breakfast" and I believe that there are still tickets available if you want to see the film in a cool festival setting and watch Jane and I schmooze it up like only rabid schmooze weasels schmooze... or snooze if it's been a long shoot on Friday. I'm really looking forward to having a screening that Jane and I aren't responsible for! It's like we've been invited to a party, finally, after having to throw them ourselves every time! It will be nice to have a non-stressful time with the lovely Jane, I must say... almost like holiday ;-) Please make sure that you let anyone you can know about the screenings! I have sent messages to a few MySpacers that are in the San Jose area (or at university there) and have an interest in film, or have movies in their profile that seem appropriate. I'm hoping that they're not going to think I'm spamming them. If you have any friends or come across any MySpacers that might fit in, perhaps you can let them know about the Cinequest screenings? I REALLY don't want to bug people though. If you're going to do this, then please just let them know why you think they're right for your message and why you think they'll like the film... PLEASE NO RANDOM CUT AND PASTED PROMOTIONS... we want to interest people, not irritate them... If they want to be irritated they can watch McKay on Stargate!

Now a few Rumor Kills...

First off, yes I am a part of Sanctuary, but no I am not a regular or a recurring character. I had the pleasure of playing, what I would call a cameo (others would call it a bit part) as a nasty serial killer with a bad attitude. Kavan was there with me and he makes a great hard nose cop (really, he has a very hard nose) It's two scenes and is NOT several episodes as has been reported elsewhere (it's not their fault, they were just a little quick on counting me in without counting on my schedule... as Bob Hope said "if I had my life to live again, I wouldn't have time to do it"). The next kill is that we have screenings set up for Australia and New Zealand at the end of the year. We're hoping to, but people are saying that they're officially scheduled for Sidney, which isn't even on the convention tour right now! If you want the truth, it's NOT out there, it's here...not as catchy as the X-Files, but I'm working on it!

Having finished the latest draft of "Starcrossed" and had NBC/Universal send it on to SciFi for their comments, I've started working on the next film...yipee! It's really slow going (because I'm slow, if you must know!), but Jane has had some great ideas and we've hammered out concepts for a couple of fun features to write and work on and try and get up and running for next hiatus!

Peace, love and McKay!

D!

I can't wait for Season 4 either

Itching to see Season 4. Wished it did not take me this long to realize how great of a show Atlantis is. Just became a fan of the show two weeks ago.
Peace

A leather jacket for Rodney, eh? How exciting! Does Ronon get one too? Because that's almost too much to handle...

I am so very excited for season four! Season three absolutely blew me out of the water ("Tao of Rodney" is, hands down, my favorite episode of Atlantis) and you all are in such a groove, I am simply beside myself with anticipation for what you'll come up with next! Good luck with filming :)
*insert cliched exclamation of joy*

Technically I've still got to get through the second half of season 3 before I can truly appreciate season 4, but the wait only makes it more desirable. ;)

I can't believe that I'm still mildly envious of the London screening attendees. I've already seen the movie, for crying out loud! What is my problem? Apparently it's only one of several...

:upset

Oh God, no, please not more leather jackets - the season 3 one's were really horrid and I was glad they were seen only occasionally ... you're gonna look like the US SS invading planets ...
Thanks for the memories

I just wanted to say thanks for helping to make Pegasus2 such a fantastic experience. You may have been feeling icky, but you still made sure each of us coming through the autograph and photo lines had a lovely and special time. And that is made of awesome! :)

Oh man, three weeks of being sick like a sick thing... that sucks. I hope you're feeling better now.

I can't wait for season four to start hitting the TV screens, I'm definitely looking forward to those leather jackets :) I hope the first week of crazy has gone well.

At the risk of being yet another myspace=bad, livejournal=good comment (which is totally true, I'm just saying...), Livejournal have a new sponsored community thing going on.

I'm not entirely sure of the ins and outs but it might be worth looking into (or it might not). Of course, I'm sure a regular, non-sponsored community would generate a whole load of interest as well.

Good luck with all of your many projects!

Good luck with season four! loved the season finale of season three, can't wait to see what happens! and see you're snazzy new uniforms! =D Savin' the galaxy in style, huh! =)

You had me at leather jackets. :grin
It's always fun reading your posts, like watching your brain at work. I'm ignorant on all things Myspace as well so you're not utterly alone.

I do LiveJournal though and you should check out the various Stargate communities there, exp the zeropointsnark one. Too funny.

I would love to be a fly in the wall at a Stargate readthrough. Happy Season 4!
San Jose screening.

I was there tonight, and was too shy to talk to you with all those people there.

What I wanted to tell you was that you have some of the best comedic timing I've ever seen. I mean, I already knew that you're funny as an actor (because McKay is so funny in small and subtle ways, you make me cry with laughter sometimes), and now I know that you have the same talent with writing as well. Just, agh. I've overwhelmed.

Thank you so much.

ZOMG, HD CAMERAS!
Written by spamco on 2007-03-03 02:04:45
So I just seriously had to share this with you.

On Wednesday, my TV production teacher told me about this convention we're going to head out to called STN (Student Television Network) & how there's going to be some hardcore tv/film students there. She specifically mentioned that this school from Hawaii who, & get this, got a grant & bought some HD cameras.

Naturally, my friend Zack & I flipped out cause well, we're film nerds. Then got jealous.

Just thought I'd share that with you. Cause you absolutely love HD cameras. Shoot, who doesn't?

I read the leather part and turned into UberDork. XD

Another month and SciFi will stop being evil and show the rest of season three! I already saw it online, but I can't wait to rewatch it! It rocked my blue, pink, and purple polka dot socks!

Sometimes I wished I lived on the west coast! I want to see the movie! Argh, sometimes I don't like living in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, well, I will! I promise! And I'll wrap up this rambling comment by saying you're wonderful, I can't wait to see ADB and Season Four, and I wish the best of luck with it all.

Ta, amigo.
Written by dutch eowyn on 2007-03-01 14:09:41
Leather jackets are good, but I must say I like most of the wardrobe so far, down to the t-shirts with tack vests and everything. It's probably got something to do with who is wearing them...

Huh, I hadn't even realized that with ADB at a festival, you wouldn't have to do the organizing! So yay for having the opportunity to go there and not have the hastle beforehand: just pack and go and start schmoozing (and maybe even snooze a little).

Happy shooting, writing, screening and whatever you're planning (the mind boggles; and you call yourself slow?!) Hope you manage to squeeze in some time to relax every now and then!
Professional Jealousy

Leather is good. Fake leather is even better because it's kinder, but I won't preach on your own turf.
Also, please don't let them ditch the thigh holsters. They are VERY good.

Remember that episode of ST:TNG where they were trading on that planet with all of those scantily clad men? I really think SGA:1 needs to go to THAT planet. *hint*

(Rule number one of writing: Know your audience.)

I think one thing that the powers that be haven't been able to understand yet is that women make up a LARGE part of their audience. More to the point, they need to realize that educated women with income make up their audience. As such they really should learn how to write female characters.

Good luck on the new season, I look forward to watching it.

No shorts then? :P I don't know if you remember, but you told me you thought you ought to be allowed. Or at least wear shorts when you go to the hot worlds.

I apologise again for being the giggliest idiot ever (yeah, that was me. I R dork).

Glad to see you had fun at the con even if you were feeling a bit under the weather as it were. I hope you are feeling better now and will be able to enjoy San Jose.

BTW, if you are looking for cons there is always ShoreLeave in Maryland. That is a great con and there are number of people that would love to see you. (And there is a movie theather within walking distince if you wanted to do anything about a screening...)

I hope all goes well tonight and with Season 4 for Atlantis... I know I am looking forward it. Are you going to taking your nifty new camera with you to bug people on the set?

leather jackets for offworld missions? the sci-fi geek in me is asking... how is that practical?! ah well. I guess if I can suspend disbelief for life-sucking aliens and "special" tumors, I guess I can pretend that leather jackets are practcial.

O.o i'll try, anyway.

mars is so adorable! i love that picture! i've been going camera-nuts with my dog recently. :D

Pretty please?
Heh. Leather Jackets...very amusing.

What's next? Flame decals on the side of the puddle jumpers? I can just see Sheppard getting up in the middle of the night with a can of spray paint and wearing a mischievous grin >) -ha ha- 8)

It's almost painful not having cable because I can't get Sci-Fi channel *sob* Thank goodness for friends with cable and video recorders
:grin

San Jose...so close and yet so far away from Austin. If only I had enough frequent flyer miles!!! T^T :sigh

Tea! Drink lots of tea as it's probably the most perfect drink in this galaxy and more forgiving on the stomach than coffee when you're feeling under the weather. Good to hear you're feeling better. :grin

Okay, thanks for making it even harderto wait for S4! :cry

Sadly, the chances of getting ADB in NE Pennsylvania any time soon seem pretty slim, so I'll have to wait for ADB to come out on DVD -- I promise to buy a copy!

The title 'Doppleganger' makes me wonder if you'll be doing more split-screen work? Acting opposite yourself again?

Glad you are feeling better and make sure you take care of yourself this (all too busy) season -- or let Jane take care of you, at least. ;)
Written by PB_Gal on 2007-02-28 06:37:54
Awww.. you just killed my hope!!! You heartbreaker you. Besides you can't come ALL the way to Australia and not screen it!!!

Anyway thanks for the updates. Good to see that the US army and other world-wide countires are speding extra money on the Pegasus project on making the teams look good ;).

Looking forward to S4, and good luck with starcrossed.

Oh and BTW, what happened to the original dgeek green layout?
Season 4!
Written by quesog on 2007-02-28 06:30:03
I can't wait for season 4. Say, you couldn't give us some hints about how McKay gets everyone out of the pickle they're in, could you? Wait! Don't do that. I'm sure that it'll be worth the wait to finally see it on TV.
Has anyone mentioned DragonCon yet?
Written by rosiewook on 2007-02-28 06:18:54
I noticed there were several plugs for DragonCon in the replies. Please allow me to add mine in, just to be annoying, really.

Thanks for the great update! We will miss you while you're shooting as I'm sure time will be short. But do try to let us know all is well, every now and then.

And leather?! Oh, yeah. You don't know how happy that will make many of SGA's fans. :grin

Big hello's to everyone from us squirrels. The few Season3, Part 2 episodes I've managed to sneak have been fantastic and only have me salivating for more! Can't wait!!

Leather? ...nice :grin

Glad you had a good time at P2, even though you were sick!
Hope to see ya at a con this side of the water again!!

I'm afraid I'm also one of the people who's apprehensive about all the changes in SGA, but thanks to yourself & David N I'm looking forward to it a lot more! Good luck with S4 and hope everything goes well in San Jose!
Mmm, leather!
Written by watcher652 on 2007-02-28 05:09:01
Looking forward to the new uniforms. At least the leather is a natural product. I always wonder why the Atlantis off world teams insist on looking so alien in their Milky Way, Earther uniforms. You'd think there would be more stories where McKay and Sheppard would have to dress up in the local garb ala Ronon to blend in. I haven't figured out what prompts Teyla to occasionally wear a SG uniform.

The hiatus seems short when you spend 3 weeks of it not feeling totally up to stuff. I'm glad to hear you're finally over it. Oh, all the best to your Mum.

Maybe it's Kate's devious plan to be visiting you while you're busy so you won't have time to bother her while she writes. You'll feel obliged to feed her so she won't have to think about that and can concentrate on her play(s).

Can Mars look any cuter? When I was passing out ADB flyers at a recent convention, a friend of mine commented that your dog looks exactly like his, down to one of the tags Mars is wearing! Spooky.

Have fun working on season 4. I'm looking forward to some wonderful McKay moments. In April, that is, when SciFi finally gets around to airing the second half of season 3 in the US! 8-)

As apprehensive as I am about all the changes for season four, I am looking forward to it a lot now!!

Glad you had a good time at Pegasus 2 :D Does this mean more UK cons in the future? :)

I'd love to see A Dog's Breakfast again, especially if you managed a Glasgow screening!!

There's a few of your friends and colleagues on MySpace that you haven't tracked down yet: Torri, Rainbow, Paul and Martin Gero :)

I seem to recall leather from the first part of S3, as well. Hopefully it won't go away this time. It looked awe...er, excellent.

Hope everyone's no worse for the wear this morning and the read-through goes well. Good luck this weekend at the festival!

Thanks for the update! A new movie??? COOOOOL!!

And YAY! for Atlantis season 4!!! Can't wait for it! :-)

Hope Jason doesn't hit you too hard (you could remind him that you start filming soon, so at least he won't punch you in the face!). But be nice to Kate, or SHE could hit you!

That picture of Mars is really something!

Ahhhh!!! I'd LOVE to go to the San José screening... :-( Stupid ocean in between...

And yes, for some reason IMDB has you among the cast of Sanctuary, but NOT Amanda Tapping. And it's a fan who did that, 'cause the IMDB obviously didn't accept the Sanctuary PTB's input. Weird...
Written by Night Spring on 2007-02-28 04:28:06
Do you have any idea how many different uniforms Rodney's been through? I think out of all Atlantis characters, his uniforms change the most frequently. Any particular reason why that is?

Really great to hear you and Kavan are in the same episode of Sanctuary -- you two were great in Runner, and every single time you've been on screen together in Atlantis! And while it's always lovely to see you in any production, I have to say I'm relieved to hear you aren't going to be a regular or recurring in Sanctuary, as I was serioulsy wondering when you would have time to eat or sleep! Or to take Mars for a walk, or spend some quality time with Jane! :D

Best of luck with S4, and looking forward to any behind-the-scenes stuff you manage to share with us!

Wow, Season 4 already! I am yet to see Season 3 (no Aussie tv screenings yet and I'm waiting for the DVD set) and delighted the show is going strong!
Fingers crossed for ADB in Oz! Knowing my luck the screening will happen when I'm holidaying in Canada, lol.
Have fun at dinner, thanks for the info!

I hope you get to come back to the UK next year hopefully with a better stomach to appreciate it properly. That said I hope your Mum is feeling better too :)
It was great meeting you and I hope to meet you again one day ;)

Glad you enjoyed your time in sunny old England, depsite the rampant illness. You'll have to come back for P3 to experience it sickness-free (hint, hint :grin

Great to hear you're working on new projects - can't wait to see what emerges.

Best of luck for San Jose, really wish i could go but i'll have to content myself with only having seen it once - for now.

Hope you don't get too bladdered at your party - remember, the real fun starts when you're the only person without the hangover next day...

Righto, better at least pretend i'm working....

Well, hooray for a new season and new uniforms! It's sweet of you to tease all of us with talk of hot wardrobe and giving Jason a hard time. Be sure to give Joe a big hug too, as I seem to remember reading somewhere that he missed you very much. ;-)

I can't make it to San Jose myself, but I've done my part by telling two friends who live there to go. They are under strict instructions to tell you and Jane hello if they see you there.

Have fun at the dinner and the read through. I hope everyone has a wonderful Season 4! I can hardly wait to see it on my TV screen.

information overload, and i love it!

Mars is such a cutie.

Welcome back to Vancouver. It's getting frosty again. I CANNOT wait until season 4 starts. And I can't wait until Sanctuary starts.

Break a leg! ;)

Wow, so much info. First of all, Awwww! You've got such an adorable dog. (Really should send a pic in to Cute With Chris.)
Second, the more I see and hear of Jason, the more he reminds me of my brother. Same height, same age, same attitude, and now...the tatoos. Yeesh....But then again, maybe that's one reason I like Ronon so much.
Third, I know some people don't like the newer, cooler uniforms, but I do! And the leather jackets...oh, yeah. And correct me if I'm wrong, but McKay's hair even seems to be more Sheppardish of late (especially in Tao).
I've found out a girl at my work who goes to McKay High School has never seen Stargate. Rest assured I plan to remedy that as soon as possible.
I hope the film festival goes well, and that you're not too worn out from filming.

What a great, newsy update! Have fun shooting the new season - I can't wait to see it, especially (now) the new costumes.

Best of luck at Cinequest, and happy schmoozing to you and Jane both!
Ok, first off...

that picture of Mars is so cute. :grin

I have yet to see the second half of season 3..but I won't curse scifi here for their 6 month break in the US.

I am looking forward to season 4 though. It means more Stargate, more Mckay, more Mckay and Sheppard banter...possibility for even mckay/sam banter..yup lots of fun to be had.

I have a friend that is going to the San Jose screening. She's excited to see it. She's really into film. I think she'll miss you though, she's going on the 6th.

So theirs a party tonight, readthrough tomorrow, kate's visiting, your hanging out on myspace, writing scripts... you don't even sleep do you? lmao

Good luck with... everything David..lol :grin

Hey! Australia?! Oh please let that work out. That would be fantastic.

If it does let us know the dates as soon as possible. I really don't want to miss it.

Have a great night tonight. You're clearly excited about it and I'm hope Jane doesn't mind that you've dropped back into character for a bit! Ah... you gotta practice ...

Cheers

BTW - the mutt pic is fabulous. He's so adorable. And he really does know it... Got that powerbook yet?

Good luck to you both in San Jose. Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and enjoy the show. Season 4...SGA...leather clad team...hmmm...sounds very interesting and classy!! :)
Good luck tomorrow!

Have a good time tonight. And all the best for tomorrow morning. Ugh, thats gotta be rough.

And, remind Jason that you have a whole army of squirrels behind you if he tries anything. :grin

I had a lot of lovely things to say, but John Legend continues to distract me.

But leather. *loves/snorts* Why does that amuse me so much?

I'd sooo love to go up to San Jose to see the film again. Sadly, it doesn't coincide with the SFSU open house. I don't think I did end up applying there, I thought I did.

Oh readthroughs. BTW, you just reminded me that I have to finish working a script I was working on with my friend. We're supposed to film our movie over the summer.

Anyways, good luck with the film festival & have fun (I'm sure you will) filming season 4. Looking forward to it.

Hope you enjoy the screening in San Jose. You'll have some New Yorkers there to keep you company at least. Any chance of getting Paul up from LA?

And have fun going back to work! Looking forward to season four (and of course the leather).

I'm still looking forward to the rest of season three (damn America!) but yay for four!

Are those leather jackets the ones that Joe wore in a couple of eps (Common Ground) and you wore as Rod.
I haven't heard any rumours about Aust and NZ but I would love for it to come to Aust... Sydney is fine with me, I don't mind taking a road trip :)
You absolutely have to keep us up-to-date with great behind the scenes anecdotes from Atlantis... also say hi to everyone from us Squirrels!
Alison
Yup ... those Time Dilation Fields sure

... you think you have all the time in the world for projects, friends, family, and all of a sudden there it is (or was???!) gone ... so back to the world of Atlantis for you.

Leather is good 8) - so definitely looking forward to that *OMG - how shallow am I!* ;)

Seriously though, there has been a huge amount of negative posting across many fan sites and forums concerning SGA season 4 with the cast changes and all, and folks saying they are not going to watch anymore *daft IMHO*. Well I'm here to say that I for one am looking forward to the continuation of a damn fine story woven by clever writers and graced by talented actors like your good self. Enjoy the class reunion tonight and have a great filming season. Hopefully you will find time for the occasional Blog *or we might all die of dgeek starvation y'know*

So Virtual Hugs and Xs to you and a good measure of Snark to McKay …
AMx
Have fun

I'm really looking forward to the start of season 4! Thanks for the heads up on the new uniforms. I'm usually one of the last to notice. I'm too into the story to pay attention to the details. :p
I hope that the Cinequest Screenings go really well! You deserve a nice relaxing and fun weekend. I'll make sure to send out a notice to my friends about the screening. :)
One question. When do you sleep? It sounds like you are keeping really busy with SGA, writing, cons and just life in general.
Thanks for the great update!

p.s. Please come to Dragon*Con and do a screening of A Dog's Breakfast. :grin
Glad you are feeling better

I am happy to hear that things are moving along so nicely with the promotion of the movie. I know there are many of us who would really love for you to arrange a screening for Dragon*con in Atlanta, GA.

It’s exciting that filming has started for season 4. We are all anxious to see what they have up their sleeves for the new season.

Good luck with the next screening and happy season 4 shooting. ;)

I am so excited about Season four. Looking forward to see the Leather Jackets. 8) Too bad I have to wait until the fall to see it.

I loved the season finale of S3 and I don't even live in the UK. Ain't the internet grand. ;) ;)

Good Luck with the festival screenings. Are you considering any other festivals that are located in a more easternly location (Nova Scotia)? :grin
