I'm trying to focus on what Christmas is really about this year: making my little sisters lives misery. For Kate it means reminding her that she was a "surprise" (don't think it's true, but it shakes her sense of calm) that and pointing out to boyfriend M. that he could do better if he really set his mind to it. For Jenny and Moyra it means teaching their kids horrible, obnoxious and anti-social behavior and getting them riled up just before bedtime... that'll teach them for pro-creating before me! I figure they work out the bugs with the proto-tykes, and Jane knocks out the perfect version 1.0 child in the next couple of years!
Mars is at his girlfriend’s house for a couple of days of puppy love before the harsh realities of life with Lester the grumpy pure-bred Bleu de Gasqoine (spell that!?) Bassett. Hanging with the blue bloods should put him in his place in time for our return!
Anyway, this is now officially costing me a fortune as we're wireless at the local Starbucks getting ripped off by the local phone company... Merry Christmas Ma Bell!
Lots of love and... what yeuch...grinch heart almost growing!

Merry Christmas D Written by Powerbean21 on 2006-12-31 23:03:43 Hope you had a great Christmas Mr. Hewlett, I know I did. It was one of the best Christmas' ever, and what made it better was that I found out that Atlantis was still playing (I thought it had ended when SG-1 took a break, but apparently not ) Happy New Years! |
Written by ladyniko on 2006-12-28 11:10:15 Definitely have to agree w/ what Still Waters said - your sisters could gang up on you and find all these embarassing pics of you as a kid and post them to Kate's blog! I did the evil toys trick for the family rob-your-neighbor game. a bunch of $1 toys all individually wrapped up, then, put into a Victoria's Secret bag of all things. :D It was great seeing my mom grab this bag, thinking she'd get something good out of the bag and then, to see that the bag was full of nothing but cheap and noisey toys. :D |
Written by San5000 on 2006-12-27 15:45:42 Hope your Christmas was excellent Just be warned...payback is a bitch. I was evil with the nieces, getting them all hyped up before bedtime and now their mums are evil with my two. Have a great 2007 |

Merry Christmas! Written by xfkirsten on 2006-12-27 03:34:57 I hope you had a very Merry Christmas! :D My uncle taught me all sorts of fun stuff - how to build a potato cannon (propelled by the combination of a sparker and a can of hairspray) that launches spuds clear across a football field, how to make a 2-liter pop bottle explode with dry ice... that's what aunts and uncles are for. I bet the weather in Toronto is better than it is here in Seattle these days! /had no power for a week after the windstorm //is currently looking out the window at the 4" of snow that's fallen in the last 2-3 hours ///waiting for an earthquake for the natural disaster trifecta |
HAPPY HOLIDAYS Written by crazy4dh on 2006-12-26 12:36:20 Happy Holidays to everyone! David and Jane hope you had a safe trip. Mars was probably happier at his girlfriends than stuck in the car so don't feel bad for leaving him behind. Thanks for thinking of us and spending all that money at Starbucks for the wireless connection. It means a lot to us little squirrels that you'd take the time to chitter at us from the neighboring tree. |

In England, wanna be in Scotland Written by taywolf on 2006-12-25 09:03:05 I am thinking of bad things to say about you - leaving poor Mars behind at Christmas. I am spending Christmas with my Brother and family - lovely time so far, but want to go home to my own wee housie. |
Written by kirst on 2006-12-25 06:01:39 Hope you and your family have Merry Christmas, And of course a Happy New year. |
Bah, humbug Written by Erynn on 2006-12-25 00:18:30 Travel safely, David. May you and Jane have a lovely time with your family back east. I'm blissfully childfree by choice and intend to stay that way. So is my only sibling, in fact. I much prefer corrupting my friends' kids as their Crazy Auntie when I'm forced into proximity. It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it. |
Written by Elvinborn on 2006-12-24 23:33:32 I feel that it is the job of the aunt or uncle to teach the children as many horrid things as possible. Preferably things that can't be tracked back to the teacher. That, or buy them drum sets. I myself have made great steps in my mission to hook my eldest niece on horses (much to her parents' dismay). And since I have access to a pony, I will always be the cool aunt. Merry Christmas to the entire clan! |
I've Got One Word For You... Written by ZoniDuck on 2006-12-24 14:12:30 Karma. My parents always told us that we'd get the kids we deserved. It's not surprising that neither my sister nor myself have had any kids yet. Best of luck to you on Version 1.0! And Merry Christmas to you, Jane, Mars, Kate, and the entire Hewlett clan. |
Watch out! Written by crazymom on 2006-12-24 12:48:22 That "kid just like you" curse is a hard one to dodge, believe me! It happened to my husband. His sisters still cackle with glee about it! Plus, DH, keep in mind you are teaching your sisters many tricks for THEIR future use. I say this having just spent an evening corrupting my oh-so-perfect brother's 14-year-old son, watching Nothing and playing Spoons (cards) for several riotous hours. For dinner we had chips and dip. He'll probably never be allowed to spend the night here again! He begged me to let him go to bed at 1:00 a.m. What's wrong with young people these days?? Merry Christmas, David, Jane, Kate, Mars, and all my fellow squirrels! |
Uncle D! Written by SalsGal on 2006-12-24 11:15:07 I just bet that you're the perfect (i.e. favourite) Uncle. =) Merry Christmas to you and your family, D. Safe travels. -Barb (and the Conley-Shearer clan) |

Basset Bleu de Gascogne ! Written by GaL on 2006-12-24 07:48:15 Hey, you can trust me I'm a real frenchie ! It's a "Basset Bleu de Gascogne", so chic for your doggie... And what about Mars children ? |
Written by rosiewook on 2006-12-24 06:41:23 Oh, David. As a little sister myself, please allow me to step up in their defense and remind you to be nice! And don't forget The Curse. It has now worked against my brother. Every time he'd get out of hand, my parents would say, "Someday you're going to have a kid just...like...you!" And it worked. Of course, you have some advantage. You have the lovely Jane on your side. Please give Kate our best, since she hasn't been by her blog, lately. And much love to all the Hewlett Clan! Merry Christmas, fellow squirrels! |
Written by Yeoyou on 2006-12-24 05:43:53 I also wanna wish you a wonderful Christmas time and a safe passage into the new year! I guess it will all go well here though it could be that oe of the four cats or two dogs goes mad when my sis starts playing piano and runs into the Christmas Tree with real bruning candles....anyway, best wishes to you! Written by Shawna on 2006-12-23 16:14:04 Heehee...proto-tykes. Just be careful of overdoing the "fun uncle" routine, lest your sisters decide to return the favor when you finally manage that perfect child. Merry Christmas, David, and have a wonderful time with your family. It sounds like a lot of fun. |

Joyeux Noël! Written by greenandgreen on 2006-12-23 08:54:47 Happy Christmas from Montréal. We've had frozen rain here so beware of the stairs... and streets. I almost broke my neck four or five times yesterday. Godd luck, and I hope the iciness of the street disapears before you get to Toronto. I don't want you to break a leg (oh, what a lame pun). |
Merry Christmas Written by Pixel on 2006-12-23 07:53:04 Merry Christmas from Hamilton, Ontario (which is about a 1 hour's drive from Toronto). Our family will be congregating in Niagara Falls, which is about an our away in the opposite direction. The long term forecast predicts a green Christmas for most of Southern Ontario. When our girls were little they received their share of parent-tormenting toys from thoughtful uncles. One particularly obnoxious one that comes to mind was a musical toy that also generated very loud baryard sounds. Fortunately my engineer husband (my own McKay!) was able to dissect the contraption and tone it down to sane levels. I will warn you that parents have long memories about such gifts and revenge is sweet! Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!! |

Merry Christmas from Germany Written by CaptainDAX on 2006-12-23 06:10:17 Hi David. Good wishes back from Germany where the weather is wet, cold and miserable gray. No white christmas here. And I also have to deal with my "creations" under the Christmas tree- be careful what you are wishing for man! There are two of them (boys!) who luckily are in the age for pc games and wireless robots now. They don´t make much noise and need a lot of time to program them! Happy holiday to all the squirrels around the world |
Thanks for the smiles Written by Delka on 2006-12-23 03:09:21 Along with everyone else-hope the holidays went well for you and yours. Wish this squirrel was with family (darn that evil thing called work!) And thanks for taking the time to post from Starbucks! I really need to learn to drink coffee! Your posts do put a smile on my face!

Happy Christmas! All the Hewletts have a brilliant Christmas! x |
Happy holidays from L.A ; ) Written by Aten on 2006-12-23 02:01:41 Sadly, my seasonal holday ended as of tonight. I didn't even get what I asked for, either. Well okay, I got the new calculator I needed, but what I was REALLY after was a new computer mic (to replace the notoriously cruddy mic I've used in the Vchat so many times). A digital camera wouldn't have hurt, either. So, obviously we "don't do Christmas" at my house, yet we still put up lights. My mom even pried me from my computer to help. In short, the lights are now up with only a few minor injuries sustained... |
A Bright and Happy Holiday Season to Dav Written by nlgatefan on 2006-12-22 23:59:15 It's Christmas, play nice (and make the siblings wonder what you're up to...)! Have a great time, be safe, (hope your holiday travel plans aren't fouled up by nasty weather)! Merry Christmas to All! Written by zwild1 on 2006-12-22 20:23:28 For us it is Christmas in big "D" in Texas. Traveling with two boys, one w/casted arm and the other taunting him by playing his gameboy(evidently it takes two hands), stuffing the SUV to the brim with electronics(ipods for the boys), other assorted gifts & Holiday Cheer stuffed amongst the luggage. While the in-laws have plenty of oil(pronounced awl in texan), they don't have DSL..Cable..Satellite or even dial-up!! I WILL BE HAVING WITHDRAWAL! *note to self, add 3 more bottles of wine to SUV* Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year D,J & M!!! |
Heh heh heh! Written by Dew on 2006-12-22 19:54:19 I guess I'm lucky because I'll be spending the holidays completely spawn free! In fact this Christmas is going to be spent without a single family relation within a good 1000 miles of me. Ah the bliss! Now if only my "pocket" of the Puget Sound would have power. But then that's what good friends are for. Happier Holidays to Everyone!

That's Just Mean... Written by Chevronrebel on 2006-12-22 19:53:07 What are you teaching those kids? And it's your JOB to torture your sisters; it's your RIGHT. Go for it (seeing as I have no brothers and two sisters, I can say this. I torture THEM daily) Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all. May it be a good one! |
Written by geekjumper on 2006-12-22 19:26:11 So. Evil. You're just begging Kate to thwack you, but good. Permanent handprint on the forehead, by New Year's Eve. Happiest Christmas and peace to you, Jane, and all the Hewlett clan. God bless. |
Written by s_aurius on 2006-12-22 19:15:19 Merry Christmas to you and your family. Christmas this year will be quiet for me. Just my husband and I will be together. hmmm. Maybe I should have gotten something different for my little niece and nephews. I was nice and got quiet books for them. Of course they aren't old enough to read yet so they'll have to have their parents read to them. I hope you have a wonderful New Year! |

Happy Ho-ho-holidays! Written by watcher652 on 2006-12-22 18:25:49 Mars is at his girlfriend’s house for a couple of days of puppy love before the harsh realities of life with Lester the grumpy pure-bred Bleu de Gasqoine (spell that!?) Bassett. Hanging with the blue bloods should put him in his place in time for our return. Did I miss something? Where did Lester come from? Funny how everyone seems to give the "not mine" kids obnoxious toys, which endears you to the children and drives the parents batty. I always took the other route - I gave toys that weren't noisy or messy, but still fun. Harder to find, but they're out there. Ended up giving lots of sparkly kind of things or "look, it moves!" toys. With all the high tech stuff available nowadays, it's harder to surprise people with something "cool". *cough* BTW, I just wanted to let you know I "borrowed" that photo of "Ryan" all decked out as a deranged Christmas tree and sent it out as my holiday card to my "geeky" friends. Hope you don't mind. I mean, it just screamed "holiday spirit"! I did put in a flyer for the movie. I have very understanding friends. Here's wishing you and yours the best-est holiday season. |

Ha Christmas in T.O. Written by gebtkd on 2006-12-22 17:22:42 Ha yes, I remember those, lived in T.O. for 7 years. Always fell bad about leaving the city and moving back to Montreal. Let’s call it my moment of insanity…oh well…this year for us will be just staying home with the kids, no visiting family... Actually, we’ll be doing lots & lots of renovation, preparing the house for selling since we are moving to Calgary at the beginning of 2007. New job, new city, new life, can’t wait. Happy holidays to both you and Jane. Enjoy your time with your family. P.S. I would be careful with your sisters, they could plot against you and use Kate’s blog to show pictures or maybe tell terribly embarrassing stories about you, so play nice…or it could bite you back in the derriere. Take care David… |
Written by sueKay on 2006-12-22 16:43:08 lol sounds like fun! My family's absolutely tiny (Me and my parents and that's the entire family!) so we don't have much shenanigans in our house! New Year (Hogmanay and Ne'erday we call 'em) however are a different matter...have to keep those Scottish 'traditions' alive! Hope you have a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!! |
Written by Linz on 2006-12-22 16:40:41 Just you wait, all those obnoxious traits you taught your nieces and nephews will come back to bite you in the rear from your sisters, when you and Jane create child v1.0 Happy holidays to you both! |

Merry Christmas to you and all your family! Francy |
Advice Written by Jan on 2006-12-22 15:54:35 I can't have lil'uns of my own (maybe a visit to your dad's office is in order, next time I'm in TO), so I consider it a point of pride to set a particularly bad example for my nieces and nephews. Bonus-- I live several hundred miles away from all the siblings, so I can give particularly noisy, obnoxious toys to their kids as Christmas presents, and never worry about having to deal personally with the consequences during a baby-sitting session (OK, Auntie Jan says you can stay up playing with your new drum set ALL NIGHT when she's visiting! And she'll let you have nice sugary cookies just before bed, too, so that you can wake her up whining at 2 am when you're on the down side of your sugar high! What fun!) FYI, if you're looking for Internet access, you can web surf at The Croissant Tree in downtown TO (Corner of Bay St and St Joseph) for the cost of a cup of coffee. It's mediocre coffee, but... Internet access, AND you're likely to run into U of T medievalists swearing at one another in Latin over their lattes. Merry Christmas to you and yours, and a lousy stinking horrid holiday to Bell Canada.

Merry Christmas to both you and Jane, and have fun with your family! And let me know how that perfect-child thing goes. I'm heading into genetics, perhaps I can help you out, ;P Happy New Year, as well Enjoy your holidays! |
HAPPY FRISSMISS! Written by rucklescreek on 2006-12-22 15:29:09 That is what my two-year-old has been saying for the past three or four weeks. Both he and his five-year-old brother are excited about the trip to "Ooma's"(Grandma, before the five-year-old could say the word) for Christmas. Like your family, we are going to have a housefull. Besides the two boys and I, there will by my mom, My younger brother, my younger sister, her boyfriend, another younger sister, HER boyfriend, my youngest sister and her new husband. Plus a few large dogs and one smooth fox terrier pup. The latter is mine. The big dogs are airedales which mostly belong to my mom. Did I mention that Mars looks part airedale? I'd guess airedale and either lab or shepherd. He is a great dog. Such an expressive face. You two make a great pair! I sure hope you all and your film make it to Lil' ol Baker City.(Its closer than LA!) I can't wait to see it! Alas, I fear our small burg will be overlooked. Well, have a very nice Christmas and an amazing New Year. Amber |
Time for joy and cheer! Written by tmac72 on 2006-12-22 15:24:09 When you master that perfect kid please let us know how. Maybe there are some upgrades that can be offered for the current models. Christmas with the family is always an interesting time. Be sure to numb yourself up with whatever your poison is. I prefer a nice dose xannax. Just remember to buy the noisiest gifts for the sibling’s kids so you can laugh and wave goodbye to them as they take the noise home. Don’t forget to slip them a little coffee just for an extra kick before bedtime. I hope you have a happy, safe and Merry Christmas, David and Jane.

Happy holidays Written by Becky S. on 2006-12-22 15:13:07 Have a great holiday with the family!
