I'm trying to focus on what Christmas is really about this year: making my little sisters lives misery. For Kate it means reminding her that she was a "surprise" (don't think it's true, but it shakes her sense of calm) that and pointing out to boyfriend M. that he could do better if he really set his mind to it. For Jenny and Moyra it means teaching their kids horrible, obnoxious and anti-social behavior and getting them riled up just before bedtime... that'll teach them for pro-creating before me! I figure they work out the bugs with the proto-tykes, and Jane knocks out the perfect version 1.0 child in the next couple of years!
Mars is at his girlfriend’s house for a couple of days of puppy love before the harsh realities of life with Lester the grumpy pure-bred Bleu de Gasqoine (spell that!?) Bassett. Hanging with the blue bloods should put him in his place in time for our return!
Anyway, this is now officially costing me a fortune as we're wireless at the local Starbucks getting ripped off by the local phone company... Merry Christmas Ma Bell!

I did the evil toys trick for the family rob-your-neighbor game. a bunch of $1 toys all individually wrapped up, then, put into a Victoria's Secret bag of all things. :D
It was great seeing my mom grab this bag, thinking she'd get something good out of the bag and then, to see that the bag was full of nothing but cheap and noisey toys. :D |

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas! :D My uncle taught me all sorts of fun stuff - how to build a potato cannon (propelled by the combination of a sparker and a can of hairspray) that launches spuds clear across a football field, how to make a 2-liter pop bottle explode with dry ice... that's what aunts and uncles are for. 
I bet the weather in Toronto is better than it is here in Seattle these days!

I feel that it is the job of the aunt or uncle to teach the children as many horrid things as possible. Preferably things that can't be tracked back to the teacher. That, or buy them drum sets. I myself have made great steps in my mission to hook my eldest niece on horses (much to her parents' dismay). And since I have access to a pony, I will always be the cool aunt.

That "kid just like you" curse is a hard one to dodge, believe me! It happened to my husband. His sisters still cackle with glee about it! Plus, DH, keep in mind you are teaching your sisters many tricks for THEIR future use. I say this having just spent an evening corrupting my oh-so-perfect brother's 14-year-old son, watching Nothing and playing Spoons (cards) for several riotous hours. For dinner we had chips and dip. He'll probably never be allowed to spend the night here again! He begged me to let him go to bed at 1:00 a.m. What's wrong with young people these days??

Merry Christmas from Hamilton, Ontario (which is about a 1 hour's drive from Toronto). Our family will be congregating in Niagara Falls, which is about an our away in the opposite direction. The long term forecast predicts a green Christmas for most of Southern Ontario.
When our girls were little they received their share of parent-tormenting toys from thoughtful uncles. One particularly obnoxious one that comes to mind was a musical toy that also generated very loud baryard sounds. Fortunately my engineer husband (my own McKay!) was able to dissect the contraption and tone it down to sane levels. I will warn you that parents have long memories about such gifts and revenge is sweet!

And I also have to deal with my "creations" under the Christmas tree- be careful what you are wishing for man! There are two of them (boys!) who luckily are in the age for pc games and wireless robots now. They don´t make much noise and need a lot of time to program them!

Sadly, my seasonal holday ended as of tonight. I didn't even get what I asked for, either. Well okay, I got the new calculator I needed, but what I was REALLY after was a new computer mic (to replace the notoriously cruddy mic I've used in the Vchat so many times). A digital camera wouldn't have hurt, either.
So, obviously we "don't do Christmas" at my house, yet we still put up lights. My mom even pried me from my computer to help. In short, the lights are now up with only a few minor injuries sustained... |

For us it is Christmas in big "D" in Texas. Traveling with two boys, one w/casted arm and the other taunting him by playing his gameboy(evidently it takes two hands), stuffing the SUV to the brim with electronics(ipods for the boys), other assorted gifts & Holiday Cheer stuffed amongst the luggage. While the in-laws have plenty of oil(pronounced awl in texan), they don't have DSL..Cable..Satellite or even dial-up!! I WILL BE HAVING WITHDRAWAL! *note to self, add 3 more bottles of wine to SUV*

Did I miss something? Where did Lester come from?
Funny how everyone seems to give the "not mine" kids obnoxious toys, which endears you to the children and drives the parents batty. I always took the other route - I gave toys that weren't noisy or messy, but still fun. Harder to find, but they're out there. Ended up giving lots of sparkly kind of things or "look, it moves!" toys. With all the high tech stuff available nowadays, it's harder to surprise people with something "cool".
*cough* BTW, I just wanted to let you know I "borrowed" that photo of "Ryan" all decked out as a deranged Christmas tree and sent it out as my holiday card to my "geeky" friends. Hope you don't mind. I mean, it just screamed "holiday spirit"! I did put in a flyer for the movie. I have very understanding friends.

"little" 82-pound dog (thin, just high!) at their house... so mom and I are staying home with him, my cat and my parakeets. Enjoying a quiet, relaxing Christmas!

I can't have lil'uns of my own (maybe a visit to your dad's office is in order, next time I'm in TO), so I consider it a point of pride to set a particularly bad example for my nieces and nephews. Bonus-- I live several hundred miles away from all the siblings, so I can give particularly noisy, obnoxious toys to their kids as Christmas presents, and never worry about having to deal personally with the consequences during a baby-sitting session (OK, Auntie Jan says you can stay up playing with your new drum set ALL NIGHT when she's visiting! And she'll let you have nice sugary cookies just before bed, too, so that you can wake her up whining at 2 am when you're on the down side of your sugar high! What fun!)
FYI, if you're looking for Internet access, you can web surf at The Croissant Tree in downtown TO (Corner of Bay St and St Joseph) for the cost of a cup of coffee. It's mediocre coffee, but... Internet access, AND you're likely to run into U of T medievalists swearing at one another in Latin over their lattes.

That is what my two-year-old has been saying for the past three or four weeks. Both he and his five-year-old brother are excited about the trip to "Ooma's"(Grandma, before the five-year-old could say the word) for Christmas. Like your family, we are going to have a housefull. Besides the two boys and I, there will by my mom, My younger brother, my younger sister, her boyfriend, another younger sister, HER boyfriend, my youngest sister and her new husband. Plus a few large dogs and one smooth fox terrier pup. The latter is mine. The big dogs are airedales which mostly belong to my mom. Did I mention that Mars looks part airedale? I'd guess airedale and either lab or shepherd. He is a great dog. Such an expressive face. You two make a great pair! I sure hope you all and your film make it to Lil' ol Baker City.(Its closer than LA!) I can't wait to see it! Alas, I fear our small burg will be overlooked. Well, have a very nice Christmas and an amazing New Year.

When you master that perfect kid please let us know how. Maybe there are some upgrades that can be offered for the current models.
Christmas with the family is always an interesting time. Be sure to numb yourself up with whatever your poison is. I prefer a nice dose xannax. Just remember to buy the noisiest gifts for the sibling’s kids so you can laugh and wave goodbye to them as they take the noise home. Don’t forget to slip them a little coffee just for an extra kick before bedtime.
