I have always wanted to have my own action figure, failing that I’ll go with mini collectible!
Turns out I am now “officially” the ugliest Christmas present on the face of the planet! I prefer to think of this as the “Post-New-Year's Eve drink-fest, caught unawares after forcing an entire Carl’s Junior Six Dollar Burger into his mouth” Mckay figurine… you be the judge.

Saw that... thing from Hell last week and my first thought was "Well, it's Martin Gero". My second was "I'd give a lot to see David's face when he discovered this".
You don't have to feel vexed or anything because, as far as I'm concerned, this figurine isn't McKay. It's jut a random scientist played by Martin Gero (only Martin is way cuter).
I don't think Joe fares better. What is it with that potatoe in the middle of his face? Is it supposed to be a nose?

My observation of the 'Dr. Rodney McKay' pewter figurine has inspired me to develop a theory.
I posit the following: the Model Factory Source Of Bucks, hereafter referred to as MFSOBs behind the McKay model, wanted to get lots of product out in time to cash in on the bucks people spend on holiday purchases.
The MFSOBs rushed production on this item, and did not notice that there was a problem until they had mass-produced thousands of the lumpy troll monstrosities. Specifically, the models were not left in the molds long enough to completely solidify. Therefore, the resultant figurines succumbed to the force of gravity and became rather shapeless and blobby. (Note: this is totally UNLIKE the actual Rodney McKay figure!)
With no time to recast the figurines, the MFSOBs decided to inflict their product on the buying public and hope for the best, theorizing that the average fan will buy anything if you stick a 'Stargate' label on it. Are they right? Only time will tell. |

What's weird is the top of the head actually is a pretty good likeness down to just below the eyes, but below that all resemblance disappears. Did the sculptor maybe take a break and go watch a tape ofAlfred Hitchcock Presents before resuming work on the jowls—er, jaw?

Having many friends who are miniature gamers (and having played on or two miniature games myself) I can only say that if the figures were made out of lead instead of pewter they would be much, much better. Pewter doesn't hold details well and I've never seen a pewter figure that I liked very much. At least the lovely Stargate ladies seem to faired better then any of the men. |

Yes, Paul McG had said so at a convention that he had his face scanned for his own figure - someone told me this however - which is why their action figures look so darn good (in my opinion anyway!) I saw this a few days ago and the first thing I thought was that it looked like Tony Shaloub, the actor that plays "Monk". But, the folks here are right. It *does* look like Martin Gero, at least more towards Martin than you. Hasn't Martin appeared on Atlantis wearing a science uniform? Maybe we could pretend this is a random miscellaneous scientist until someone comes out with a figure that looks like you.
And you should be pointing! "You, what do you think you're doing?" At least you have a data tablet.
But look at the Sheppard figure. How can they not get Sheppard's hair right? Teyla and Weir? Recognizable because of their clothing. Only Ronon looks remotely like himself. But where did that shirt come from? Looks like the one he wore in "Sateda", not something he wears on Atlantis.
I guess I'm spoiled because in the "old days", figures really never looked like the person it represented. With today's technology, you think every company could do better.

I'm with Mary. It looks more like Gero than you, but even saying that much would be an insult to Gero. Sometimes I think they're trying to make the most purely rubbish product they can in order to see who's still blindly fannish enough to buy it. |

For not pointing them out to me at SG-11 as I think I probably would have curled up in hysterical laughter! Either that or lost my voice - which considering what my job is at the con so isn't a good thought.
Mind you, after looking at the figure of Sheppard on their site I'm not surprised - in my opinion the only one that looks half way decent was Teyla. |

We managed to get a look at these at SG11 and I told the guy selling them that the McKay one seriously looked like 'Monk' it was worrying. Really not good... *giggles*
