I have always wanted to have my own action figure, failing that I’ll go with mini collectible!
Turns out I am now “officially” the ugliest Christmas present on the face of the planet! I prefer to think of this as the “Post-New-Year's Eve drink-fest, caught unawares after forcing an entire Carl’s Junior Six Dollar Burger into his mouth” Mckay figurine… you be the judge.

Written by flyersun on 2007-12-07 15:02:54 Oh... that doesn't look like you at all *goes off to find out where she can buy one anyways* |
What were they thinking??? That is SO no Written by Kdvb1 on 2007-05-31 00:13:58 Seriously???? The figures are hilarious. Did you see Sheppard's??? The nose on it is MASSIVE..lol. And Daniel's... he really does look like Elton John...the glasses are horrific!!! |
Written by dpainter on 2007-03-16 19:08:39 Yikes. *grimaces* That's kinda . . . hideous. *covers eyes* Many condolences (that is, if you've still have yet to get over the shock). LOL |
Written by SparkyShweir on 2007-01-20 20:33:14 Hi um I don't mean to stand out or anything. But I got some for my birthday and I love them! They do look a lot better in real life that the pictures. Maybe I just haven't got the eye for talent *Smile* |
Written by mircalla on 2007-01-12 14:01:27 I've only just looked at this - no joke after a long day at work. At first I thought Nixon but then, no, Absorbaloff! |
Written by bluejay on 2007-01-01 20:11:49 They always seem to contort the figurines. All of them are horrid and look nothing like their actors... Michael Shanks looks half Klingon. |

Yikes! Written by welcome_earthling on 2006-12-19 15:54:50 Yeah I saw it! It's featured in the SFX mag! I have to say I did laugh my socks off! Though good news for you, it doesn't really look like you! Plus they are all a bit on the dodge side Carrie |
They are ALL hideous Written by taywolf on 2006-12-19 12:17:46 I have just checked out all the figures and they are all have awful faces. Get Mars a chewy version for his Christmas treat, maybe he can mangle into into a better likeness. Merry Christmas from Scotland. Susan |
Constipated Written by taywolf on 2006-12-19 12:13:40 You look frustrated, constipated and totally unrealistic. To think that somebody was paid to create these for fans to buy. Maybe you should run your own competition - get under 5s to make a better figure of you. |
Pewter : A bright, shiny metal used to m Written by Mana on 2006-12-18 14:22:39 Apparently... the entire pewter set looks horrid...and when i mean the entire set.. i mean THE ENTIRE set... Sg-1 including. so.. dont feel bad! I really dont know WHO did them.. and WHO approved them... but.... whoever they were.. they were seriously mistaken. It's a shame.. they could have turned out SO much better! |
Written by Hamesh on 2006-12-18 12:49:19 haha, its sexyback McKay!! Please don’t insult the British designers its not their fault that MGM have put enough money in advertising the Stargate Franchise in the UK. I mean I’ve seen the really cool Stargate adverts that came out early this year on the Sci-Fi channel. Who knew McKay could be useful in an elevator. |
Written by Captain Peregrine on 2006-12-18 11:39:26 *snort* Tee-hee, that's too funny. Obviously, though, they're not watching the same show we are. I wonder what the hell they were watcing. lol |

Poor you! Written by Aurore on 2006-12-17 06:41:25 Saw that... thing from Hell last week and my first thought was "Well, it's Martin Gero". My second was "I'd give a lot to see David's face when he discovered this". You don't have to feel vexed or anything because, as far as I'm concerned, this figurine isn't McKay. It's jut a random scientist played by Martin Gero (only Martin is way cuter). I don't think Joe fares better. What is it with that potatoe in the middle of his face? Is it supposed to be a nose? Our only hope is Obiwa...er, the action figure Oh, it's a bit OT but I wanted to thank you for talking about Dr Who so often and being so enthusiastic about it. It's airing now in France (9th doctor) and I would never have watched it without you and your comments about it. I'm so loving that show! Aurore |
OMG- it's the Tony Shalhoub action figu Written by kittenz2006 on 2006-12-16 22:28:09 It's really supposed to be Tony Shalhoub channelling David Hewlett playing Rodney Mckay as interpreted by Salvador Dali?Right? |

Written by christmaslight on 2006-12-16 07:01:31 I'll just repeat what everyone else is saying: who is that supposed to be?!? I almost fell off my chair laughing at that... And the Sheppard one looks a bit like Martin Wood. I think these people should consider pulling the entire line off the market and rethinking it! |
Written by hannah_alexander on 2006-12-16 06:18:36 It's a very nice figurine of Martin Gero, isn't it? And on the bright side, the Col. Sheppard one sucks just as much - if not more - than the McKay figure. |
who this? Written by mikeystkilda on 2006-12-16 05:18:35 i just figure it out, the artist must been working for some secret government agency hell bent on replacing Rodney with their own look-a-like on there quest to take over atlantis and this is the first step before they wipe everyone memories what what the real one looks like. |
Written by mrufka_z on 2006-12-16 01:20:50 If I didn't know it is you, I'd be sure it's made to resemble Liev Schreiber... Rodney, being BIG, DAMN HERO, deserves best action toy ever. But this? It's like a cruel joke. Poor thing.

Written by Chelle on 2006-12-16 00:45:11 So..... We;ve got the secretly created genetic mutatio of a hybrid between Martin Gero and Dr. McKay..... But at least it isn't as bad as Daniel "I Wanna Be Harry Potter" Jackson....... |
Written by Beth Green on 2006-12-15 22:47:47 My observation of the 'Dr. Rodney McKay' pewter figurine has inspired me to develop a theory. I posit the following: the Model Factory Source Of Bucks, hereafter referred to as MFSOBs behind the McKay model, wanted to get lots of product out in time to cash in on the bucks people spend on holiday purchases. The MFSOBs rushed production on this item, and did not notice that there was a problem until they had mass-produced thousands of the lumpy troll monstrosities. Specifically, the models were not left in the molds long enough to completely solidify. Therefore, the resultant figurines succumbed to the force of gravity and became rather shapeless and blobby. (Note: this is totally UNLIKE the actual Rodney McKay figure!) With no time to recast the figurines, the MFSOBs decided to inflict their product on the buying public and hope for the best, theorizing that the average fan will buy anything if you stick a 'Stargate' label on it. Are they right? Only time will tell. |
Written by SnoCone on 2006-12-15 20:10:35 Ahahahahahaha. Sorry, sorry, I know I shouldn't, just. *snort* I can just imagine you, David, hearing about it and getting all excited, then this. The downside to being a big sci-fi persona? And really, not laughing at you. Truly. I'm laughing... ok ok yes I'm totally laughing at you. |

Written by Prima on 2006-12-15 17:28:09 And here I was expecting a story along the lines of John Philips rolling around nekkid on a bed full of Neelix action figures. This isn't even remotely as traumatic. |

Written by Bek78 on 2006-12-15 15:56:55 Oh my! Is Martin Gero joining you on season 4 - perhaps as McKay's younger better looking brother?... oh it seems everyone thinks that! Well Gero will be happy atleast... How could they get it THAT wrong?
|
Written by YouKnowWhatImHappy on 2006-12-15 15:23:43 I would never ever want that for Christmas. I do agree with everyone else though - slap a Scotland badge on it instead and it could be Danger Beckett, Carson's younger better looking brother!! |
CREEPY Written by windshieldbug on 2006-12-15 15:12:03 As I said on that forum thread....THAT IS CREEPY. None of that figurine is anything like you/McKay. Thanks for the spit-take on the title of this post. I have water all over my desk! |
Awful! Written by crazymom on 2006-12-15 14:37:08 At least you could guess who the McKay one is supposed to be (Martin Gero would be my first guess, though!). The Jackson one doesn't look remotely like him! The ones of Teyla and Ronon aren't too bad, at least compared to how bad the other ones are. |
Wow thats just... wow Written by sorka42 on 2006-12-15 12:17:18 That's pretty bad, and I agree that figure looks like Gero. Maybe you should ask him if he pulled a switch on you. Though I can't say that the Jackson figure is any better looking. That one looks like he is sucking a lemon. You really need to complain to the publicity people because they always seem to choose the *worst* shots of you for the promo stuff. |
McKay? Err... no, not the McKay WE know. Written by SalsGal on 2006-12-15 11:57:13 So uh, David? How come Danger Beckett stood in for you on the day they needed a model for that figurine? To whom do we complain about this, so we can have a do-over? The Shep figurine looks pretty good - I got one of them at the Burbank con in November. They even added Joe's ever-present stubble. But seriously? You're /hot/, geeky hot - the term we use around here is 'adorkable' - and that figurine? Not so much. Doesn't look like you AT all. |
Written by Matt the Bruins fan on 2006-12-15 10:29:48 What's weird is the top of the head actually is a pretty good likeness down to just below the eyes, but below that all resemblance disappears. Did the sculptor maybe take a break and go watch a tape ofAlfred Hitchcock Presents before resuming work on the jowls—er, jaw? Oh well, at least people are going to be distracted by looking at the Sheppard figurine and wondering when Eliot Gould joined the cast... |
Written by Becky S. on 2006-12-15 09:13:05 Having many friends who are miniature gamers (and having played on or two miniature games myself) I can only say that if the figures were made out of lead instead of pewter they would be much, much better. Pewter doesn't hold details well and I've never seen a pewter figure that I liked very much. At least the lovely Stargate ladies seem to faired better then any of the men. |
Ack, sorry, here's the link Written by nel_ani on 2006-12-15 07:42:13 Daniel Jackson |
Written by nel_ani on 2006-12-15 07:39:30 The similarity is...well, I suppose they got the uniform right. But thank god that Rodney McKay doesn't wear glasses, because check out how Daniel Jackson fared. |
No way Dude! Written by angiebaby on 2006-12-15 07:02:31 Did they just pick some random bloke of the street to model for that or maybe a random bloke called mckay? it's the only rational explaination! |
Nosebleed... Written by Kev1305 on 2006-12-15 06:40:22 My nose started bleeding at the exact moment the pic displayed. My god...how did they dare ? Is there any psychological support scheduled for you David ? |
Written by sarahbewley on 2006-12-15 06:37:10 No, no. Flanigan's is the ugliest ever. Your's is simply not a good likeness. I actually shuddered when I saw Flanigan's figure. It's really awful. Apparently they had someone who is incredibly nearsighted design these. And by nearsighted I mean legally blind. WP |

Rodney the Hamster Written by taywolf on 2006-12-14 23:57:24 You look like your little cheeks are stuffed with food. Normally your face is very expressive but this figure makes you look like a moronic zombie. If I had one of these things made it would be round with a big smiley face. At least you can laugh at it. You are either realistic or crazy. Merry Christmas to Mars, Jane and, of course, yourself. Susan

M. Shanks didnt like his action figure e Written by lemonchicken on 2006-12-14 22:33:55 Aten: Isn't it true that, for the Diamond Select figurines, they used a facial scanner? Yes, Paul McG had said so at a convention that he had his face scanned for his own figure - someone told me this however - which is why their action figures look so darn good (in my opinion anyway!) But on the topic of NOT liking miniature versions of oneself - heres Michael Shanks on his action figure: Action Figure Shanks Dont worry DH, we still love you! |

Did they use the Robert doll from the ' Written by Sweeneybird on 2006-12-14 22:30:49 Because seriously? That looks like a cross between Jackie Gleason and Brad Garrett. Also, your tushie is MUCH cuter. |

I must have blocked it out...). I've never seen a completely perfect likeness in these cases, but that's so far from the mark that I had to reorient my brain after viewing the thing! Isn't it true that, for the Diamond Select figurines, they used a facial scanner? Whoever manufactured THAT miniature monstrosity needs a speedy upgrade (and a CLUE or two wouldn't hurt! ). |
Written by Rebeccasaurus on 2006-12-14 21:47:55 It's too bad it's not a plastic figure in which you could swap body parts with |
Written by crownglass39 on 2006-12-14 21:13:55 That weird creepy smile alone on the figure is enough to give me nightmares. John DeLancie one spoke at a con about how his kid would bury his figure in the sandbox and the dog would walk around with it in his mouth. I think you really need to get a picture of Mars toting around a McKay figure in his mouth... |

I'm so sorry! Written by watcher652 on 2006-12-14 19:23:32 I was hoping you would comment on this so I could offer you my personal condolences. I saw this a few days ago and the first thing I thought was that it looked like Tony Shaloub, the actor that plays "Monk". But, the folks here are right. It *does* look like Martin Gero, at least more towards Martin than you. Hasn't Martin appeared on Atlantis wearing a science uniform? Maybe we could pretend this is a random miscellaneous scientist until someone comes out with a figure that looks like you. And you should be pointing! "You, what do you think you're doing?" At least you have a data tablet. But look at the Sheppard figure. How can they not get Sheppard's hair right? Teyla and Weir? Recognizable because of their clothing. Only Ronon looks remotely like himself. But where did that shirt come from? Looks like the one he wore in "Sateda", not something he wears on Atlantis. I guess I'm spoiled because in the "old days", figures really never looked like the person it represented. With today's technology, you think every company could do better. Ah, well, I'm hoping to meet the real thing someday!
|

Written by strivaria on 2006-12-14 19:03:13 Yeah, I saw that and thought to myself that I could probably do a better job than that... despite the fact that I didn't do so well in the clay sculpture portion of high school art class lo these many years ago. Written by hipapheralkus on 2006-12-14 18:13:37 Ok who's the fat guy impersonating McKay? Despite any jokes made on Atlantis, you're definitely not fat. Written by Pixel on 2006-12-14 17:51:28 I'm sorry, but I have to agree. That figurine doesn't do you justice at all. The only part of it remotely accurate is the uniform. I think it is a fine idea to immortalize McKay in such a manner, but it is a pity it was so poorly done. |
Written by MdGateFan on 2006-12-14 17:36:41 OK...where the heck did they get the model for that? And what is with the five o'clock shadow? I agree, this looks nothing like you. As for being the ugliest gift ever, I don't know if I would go that far, but it is pretty bad. I just hope that when the action figure is made they don't hire the person who made this - or use it as a model. |
Written by Tazmy on 2006-12-14 16:42:16 Wow, why would they make you like that? You are not fat. I don't care what jokes they may make on Atlantis or how this guy may sculpt you, you are clearly not fat. This figure looks nothing like you. I just don't know what else to say but...argh.

Ewwwwww! Written by lttledvl on 2006-12-14 16:27:26 That thing looks nothing like you, David. That being said, I'll now say that thing is downright fugly. But in my defence nobody would let me open the box and look at it until I got home...my reaction was something along the lines of WHA??? It looks nothing like you!! I'm begging people not to buy it for me, I'm afraid. I doubt Jane's thinks you're an ugly Christmas present *smiles* Never mind, there's always the action figure... |
Written by Shawna on 2006-12-14 15:26:00 I'm with Mary. It looks more like Gero than you, but even saying that much would be an insult to Gero. Sometimes I think they're trying to make the most purely rubbish product they can in order to see who's still blindly fannish enough to buy it. |
Evil Wishmaster *gg* Written by Amy_McKay on 2006-12-14 15:09:57 The best figures are Jaffa and Wraith!! Because they have masks

It looks like Martin Gero!! Written by mmcleary on 2006-12-14 14:51:24 Totally. WTF? Did someone give them a picture of Martin Gero instead of you? Mary |
Written by sueKay on 2006-12-14 14:44:08 I've seen pictures of these figures...I think they're all particularly...is awful the right word? Here's hoping the next ones are nicer! |
Thanks to Tiggerific and Muffin... Written by Annie on 2006-12-14 14:42:46 For not pointing them out to me at SG-11 as I think I probably would have curled up in hysterical laughter! Either that or lost my voice - which considering what my job is at the con so isn't a good thought. Mind you, after looking at the figure of Sheppard on their site I'm not surprised - in my opinion the only one that looks half way decent was Teyla. |
*giggles* Written by Muffin on 2006-12-14 14:32:51 We managed to get a look at these at SG11 and I told the guy selling them that the McKay one seriously looked like 'Monk' it was worrying. Really not good... *giggles* The others dont look that bad... the carson which is yet to be released is really good! |
Written by tiggerific on 2006-12-14 14:32:40 saw them at sg11 and after rushing to the dealers room after i was told about them i came to a very abrupt hault and was like WHAT ON EARTH IS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? its just oh so wrong!! i dont know how they can even go ahead selling them surely they must see it looks nothing like Rodney...... |
not so bad Written by freeila on 2006-12-14 14:25:48 I think that action figure is not so bad, nice, maybe the face is a bit far from real comic face but... so i am a fan and this present would make me happy. lol Ila |
Uhhhhhh..... Written by Annie on 2006-12-14 14:19:16
Just wondering how to go about politely asking if the person who created it, and the one who gave the go ahead, even bothered to look at a picture of you before creating it??????? Not sure the blind bats did! |
Written by Aquaura on 2006-12-14 13:57:25 Hey, who's that ? That doesn't look anything like you !! Are they blind or what ? |
Written by thaddia on 2006-12-14 13:40:51 Yeah, that doesn't look anything like Mckay. I call for a redo.
