All that glorious L.A. sunshine last week and yet I was still so happy to be home… how wrong was I! Blow winds blow, I love that rain! Problem is, that rain became sleet and then hail and then we were officially under two feet of frozen snow! Our little bio-diesel car made it to the International Market for much needed supplies, but ended up stuck in a drift at the bottom of the driveway. So we settled in for a few “snow days” of reading and updating websites and the nerd world of winter. I confess to actually looking forward to it! Two huge sparking explosions later and we’ve been without power for 3 days! Can I just say that I will never take the Internet or my lovely Powerbook for granted ever again. When those lights came on again Jane was dancing around like having to stay in a house with me doing bad “Shining” impersonations for three days was a bad thing ;-) That, and there’s an advisory that we have to boil our drinking water! Where the hell have I taken Jane to live?! Why am I here instead of on some tropical island trying to spend quality time with the smartest most attractive woman on the planet? These are the trial and tribulations that come with living life and doing business facing such a fantastic West Coast view!
No more excuses, no more irritating teasers about things about to happen… This is it...
Thanks in part to the power of thousands of tiny paws and twitching tails of the Squirrel marketing brigade “A Dog’s Breakfast” is now being distributed world wide by MGM! Yes, our little mutt is now hanging out with the roaring lion.
I’ll get the “official” MGM release up later today, but I just wanted to let all of you, that have helped from the beginning, be the first to hear the happy news. Thank you all so much for all of the help, support and enthusiasm that has made this dream a reality.
Now, I hope Mars doesn’t get himself into trouble with his new play friend… that lion’s got teeth!

Small piece on multichannel Written by Gebo on 2006-12-04 04:24:28 There is a small item on multichannel news on their 'through the wire' slot. Just the same as what we already know. I hope there is more soon, as the LA shades beckon. |
Snip, snip, snip... Written by watcher652 on 2006-12-01 17:46:19 Hey, you should have just snipped out the stuff about the announcement and left up the stuff about the snow storm. That was fun to read. |
Not the only late one... Written by Gebo on 2006-12-01 04:31:25 Luckily although I hadn't managed to post, I was able to lurk. So I had managed to read this before it was pulled. I'm so glad that you managed to get a deal with MGM. I hope that the pussy-cat and the dog play nice. Am looking forward to the multichannel release on Monday. Have got the LA shades on in anticipation. Have updated my blog to say about the deal. |
I'm late as usual... Written by Aten on 2006-11-30 23:19:10 Speaking of outages, my internet's been acting up again, so I couldn't get on this morning. ARGH! Back on topic: I'll now be preparing myself for some extremely asphenantic news. That's my new word. Created for me by Dragonfang. Safe for all to use, though. |
Written by aclarar on 2006-11-30 20:09:59 I didn't got to see the original one But on the other hand: FELICITACIONES!!!!!!!! *happy latin squirrel dance* |
I thought it was something like that. Written by Icarus on 2006-11-30 19:27:01 Congratulations. Somehow I'm not a bit surprised. Even Seattle got snow. Alas, it's pretty much all gone now except for the few melting grubby snowmen. |
YAYYYY!!! Written by TJinLOCA on 2006-11-30 18:07:46 That is such fantastic news! I'm so excited ... now the rest of my family will get a chance to see it too. And I can't WAIT to own the DVD!! |
Written by cgiGeek on 2006-11-30 17:29:23 I HUGE CONGRATS!!!!! I am so happy to hear about MGM distributing the film. That is grand! Stay warm, the snow here is now staring to melt, but no power outage, to close to Boeing in Everett to worry about that. The power seems to never go out here, but I have to hear those jet engines being tested at all hours of the night. Catch-22 I guess. Happy Holidays to you, Jane & Mars, of course. |
AWESOME!!!!!!! Written by teknikal on 2006-11-30 16:35:35 that is fantabulous news!!!!! yay for the roaring lion!! mars will definately give him a run for his money!!!! im so happy for you guys!! congrats!!! |
Written by Pandora on 2006-11-30 15:00:04 WAHOOOOO!!!! This is AWESOME this is GREAT! Congratulations to all on a job well done and the rewards to follow. David, Jane, Mars & the rest of the cast and crew... You have a lot to be proud about. I cannot wait to buy my ticket to opening night! |
Yaaay! Written by Captain Peregrine on 2006-11-30 14:50:46 Whoo-hoo! Way to go Mars (and David) on making it to the lion's den. I hope that means what I think it means and I can look forward to seeing our favorite big-screen puppy in a theater near us--me--soon! (and I'm looking forward to seeing Mars on the big-screen, too! :P :D) |
WHOO WHOO Written by nomidalantian on 2006-11-30 13:26:41 brilliant! *dances around bedroom knocking over various soft toys* BRILLIANT!!! gonna shuddup now... |
Excellent News! Written by San5000 on 2006-11-30 12:35:29 Many congratulations! That's fantastic news. It means I have a good hope of seeing the film over here in the UK :-) As for the snow....as long as I don't have to go out in it, I'm happy enough with snow. Otherwise, take the cold, wet stuff away!!
|
Way to go cowboy!! Written by karinsusann on 2006-11-30 12:35:04 So happy for you and everyone involved in the project. MGM is awesome... Looking forward to seeing the film here in Texas. By the by, it's sleeting and 28 degrees outside right now. In Texas? Yep. So excited to see the movie! Best wishes to Jane and Mars! |
SUPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER !!! Written by Vive les Unas on 2006-11-30 12:01:38 Congratulations !! I'm really happy for you ! (for the MGM and for the snow...I'd love to be stuck home because of the snow...and just want a day off !!!) Be careful for the "lion/mutt" plays (another "cat/mouse" scheme) and again congratulation to you, to Jane, to everybody !! (so now I can hope a release in France, can't I ?) |
Written by 11nine73 on 2006-11-30 12:00:57 There's nothing like losing your basic amenities for making you feel grateful. I speak from my recent experience of a week without gas (so with you on the heat/hot water thing). Many, many congratulations on the film deal. It's nothing less than you deserve with all the hard work you've put in and yay! cos that means I'll actually be able to see it. Hugs and love and enjoy the warmth! Helen x |

SQUIRREL DOING BACKFLIPS FOR JOY!!!!!! Written by crazy4dh on 2006-11-30 08:27:14 Yeah!!!World wide...and MGM. That's the big dogs..ummmm cats. Mars is keeping EXCELLENT company these days. Hopefully he got wonderful doggy treats to celebrate with. I take back all evil thoughts about you sadistically prolonging our misery. Three days - no power - won't speculate on what you two did to stay warm especially if you were toting axes with maniac gleam in your eyes or possibly murmuring "REDRUM, REDRUM". Hope nothing froze - like pipes. I personally would take the tropical island anyday. Now we just sit back and wait patiently (YEAH RIGHT!) for release dates.

Written by shelsfc on 2006-11-30 08:26:27 Woohoo!! Congratulations to you & Jane & Mars and everyone involved with ADB! |
Written by rosiewook on 2006-11-30 07:58:22 HOORAY!!!!! Congratulations! And I think it is all due to the brilliance that is your movie. MGM knows quality when they see it. Stay warm! |
Great news! Written by tmac72 on 2006-11-30 07:19:50 I decide to take a day off and oh what glorious news to come back to. Congrats on the news from MGM. That was well worth the wait. Sorry that you had to be without power. Living in the deep south, our whole town practically closes down when they just mention flurries. Stay warm! Best wishes to you, Jane and Mars. |
Congratulations! Written by Pixel on 2006-11-30 07:16:34 That's wonderful news!!! I'm just thrilled for all involved! Will you be putting a trailer up on YouTube? Can't wait to see the movie! |
OMG! Written by LaClau on 2006-11-30 06:44:10 3 days without power? Like... no Internet, no Pc, no TV, no DVDs... no MUSIC? *runs in circles, screaming* How could you ever survive? So... bad Shining impersonations? Spare me the axe. By day #2, I'd be ripping walls apart with bare hands *fans herself* Ok... Ok... Its no gonna happens to me... *murmur some calming mantra* And world wide distribution of "A Dog Breakfast"? YAY! Do you know if there are some tiny little hope they relased it in Argentina? Shees! I know it's not gonna happen in my town, but, if the movie is relased in Buenos Aires, I could travel. What are 1600 km when you have the movie at the end of the rainbo... er...route? These are the times when I wish I live in some noisy, dangerous, contaminated city, and not here *sigh* Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! *hands you a beer* Cheers! =D |
Written by Flutegirl on 2006-11-30 06:43:25 WOOHOO!!! Congratulations!! |

Congrats! Written by lttledvl on 2006-11-29 23:38:15 Yay! Finally all the work has paid off. I hope you get enough of the proceeds to pay folks who worked so hard on this thing. (keeps 'em willing to do I would think ) Eww! Snow, I personally hate it. Granted I wouldn't mind a bit on the 25th of Dec, but that's about it. The rest of the time you can keep it. I've been stuck without power for 3 days once - though it was summer so we had sweltering heat instead of cold to deal with. The hazards of living in the boonies. |
Written by Aurora on 2006-11-29 23:19:30 Ok, I want to live where you live. I would love to be snowed in for 3 days. Of course, the no electricity does become annoying after a day or so. I can not even begin to tell you how happy I am to hear the news the MGM is going to distributed ADB. Congrats David and all the Dog's Crew |
Written by nlgatefan on 2006-11-29 22:57:18 Congratulations to all involved on this wonderful news! I kept thinking that the reason we weren't hearing anything was weather-related, and so it was! Now, take it from a midwesterner who's been dealing with storm-related power outages for awhile, get yourself a whole-house-size emergency generator! Then when the power goes out, you can stay warm, and connected to the 'net, and still enjoy that fantastic West Coast view! Again, warm congratulations to you, Jane, and everyone else connected with the project on this wonderful news! |
Written by mystisblom on 2006-11-29 22:39:19 Wooohooo! I always knew I loved Lions. But I also love snow *G* I hope you had a lot of fun those three days, you know how many babys are born after snowstorms right? Now back to the importend topic. I'm so happy that ADB will made it to the big screen wich means that when the release dates come out I'll start to promote the hell out of Germany. |
Written by greenandgreen on 2006-11-29 22:35:32 Awesome (We still don't snow in Eastern Canada... That's gotta be a first, eh?) |
Woo-hoo! Written by Shawna on 2006-11-29 22:25:51 Yay! Glad to hear it! Congrats and all that. I love a northwest fall/winter. The past few days have been absolutley wonderful. I'll take rain, snow and clouds over the blazing sun any day (It hurts us, precious!) and I can relate to looking forward to being cooped indoors (makes me not feel so bad about not leaving the house if I physically can't). I actually like it when the power goes out (unless it makes me miss a show I want to see), but it does get old after a day or two. |
Congrats! Written by Delka on 2006-11-29 22:07:53 Congratulations from this fan too. |
YOU GO DOG! Written by starleet on 2006-11-29 21:36:53 What fantastic news! Congrats to you, Jane and all of the ADB gang. You really have a prize in the movie and it deserves to be seen by the masses. That stinky boy called Rob missed out and now has to wait to see ADB with those masses. |
Wonderful news! Written by Becky S. on 2006-11-29 21:36:00 Congratulations to you and everyone connected to your puppy! And congratulations to MGM for making a very smart move. I couldn't be happier for you. As for the weather problems...I know those problems well. Had them several times a winter growing up. Know several tricks for filling up the time. Not to mention knowing some tricks for all that snow shoveling. |
Written by pavaneofstars on 2006-11-29 21:23:49 Congratulations! Fantastic news, this just made my day! It was well worth the wait. |

Congratulations! Written by watcher652 on 2006-11-29 20:34:15 Such wonderful news! I'm so happy and excited for you, the proud papa about to send his creation out into the world. I look forward to the press release from MGM! I was wondering what happened to you. I thought you would have a little note to us sooner. Your reaction to the LA screening, if nothing else. But Kate wrote an entry in her blog so we did get a peek into how it looks from the other side. Was the power failure just at your house, or did it affect a wider area? I was in a neighborhood power outage during the past summer and it was so hot in my house I went over to a friend's to sleep. But at least I was able to leave. Sounds like you were buried in. Again, congratulations! |
Written by casey on 2006-11-29 20:32:51 Hiya David (and Jane if you see this!) Congrats on the distribution :D I hope it comes to Australia (early???) next year - I'll go watch it with some mates and it'll be cool. Snow? Eek... it's sweltering here in Sydney. Though still considered late spring, we've had bushfires, high humidity and just extreme heats. Good news is I get to swim a couple of times a week. Keep us posted on the distribution stuff - I hope the movie will come out here early next year as I've only heard great things about it! |
Written by Rebeccasaurus on 2006-11-29 20:25:25 Great big congratulations to you! |
Written by dgustavson on 2006-11-29 20:10:36 Congratulations on the distribution deal! Looks like all the hard work paid off. So, what's next on your plate for a little side project? Looking forward to meeting you in London where I hope we'll be able to get a screening of ADB. |

Mars and the nice big pusscat Written by taywolf on 2006-11-29 19:32:54 I do hope that you were managing to get Mars out for his walkies. I have always wanted to go to Canada for a holiday, but it seems a little 'wild'. It will be good to see your film and it is even better that you have a good distributor with a distribution network. No need for squirrels now. You are needing to sort out your comment pages so that it is clear when one comment ends and one begins. |
Written by naynay on 2006-11-29 19:27:05 SWEET!! Congrats!! |
Congradulation Written by gebtkd on 2006-11-29 19:18:08 Hi David, great news for you and Jane on the release of your movie. That is truly fantastic. Can't wait to see myself. Sorry to hear about your 3 days without power but you know, I can only say I understand your pain, I have two words for you "ICE STORM" Lived it, survived it, 7 days without power, 2 kids, 1 dog and a cranky husband. The joy of living in Quebec. What can I say, winter can be a pain in the derriere. Congrats again and stay warm |
Written by margec01 on 2006-11-29 19:08:15 Congratulations! That is fantastic news. I am so looking forward to seeing the movie! |
Written by shippygem on 2006-11-29 19:06:28 3 days OMG 35 minutes was the longest we had a power cut for and it was the worst 35 minutes of my life! It was dark and I had *nothing* to do. Although I would have loved to be at work at the time because they suffered to, but for three hours, and I used to work in a theme park and all the rides got stuck!(Am I a bad person that it would amuse me to watch people freaking out, dangling 30 feet in the air with no way to get down?) Glad to hear about the film being distributed, I might get to see it now YAY \o/ |
Yay!!! Written by strivaria on 2006-11-29 18:56:38 Congratulations on getting MGM to distribute ADB!! That's just too cool for words. That whole sleet/snow/no power thing... that's gotta suck. 'Twas one of the things I've been looking forward to after moving back home to the South - we don't get that kind of weather here. |
Written by zwild1 on 2006-11-29 18:54:23 Congrats, this is great news!!! I survived 4 days without power due to a horrific ice storm. Because here in the south central U.S. we seem to like freezing rain or so we think. All I can say is, thank god for generators. |
Written by elfgirl on 2006-11-29 18:48:15 WOW! Congratulations to you, Jane, Mars(!), and the whole crew on the distribution deal. That's awesome! (Why, yes, it did make me see god. No, really.) Sorry to hear about the hardships with the snow and lack of power. I think you owe Jane a vacation to a tropical clime. |
CONGRATS!!!! Written by SGAngeL on 2006-11-29 18:22:01 That's so awesome!!! I'm so unbelievably happy for you (obviously not because of the snow and lack of power for several days, really, i don't know how you survived!). But YAY!!! I'll get to see the movie... that does mean big screen, right?! *drools* |
Written by Erynn on 2006-11-29 18:01:29 That is FABULOUS, David! I'm so pleased for you! You can bet I'll be watching the movie when it hits Seattle! Been snowing like evil here, too, but fortunately no power cut. I hope you found ways to keep warm for three days without power |
Written by Linz on 2006-11-29 17:35:26 CONGRATS!!! :D I can't wait to read the official release and then to post it on the net EVERYWHERE And if I had to live without power for 3 days, I'd be jumping for joy too! (regardless of "Shining" impersonations) hehe |
Written by Catsitter on 2006-11-29 17:31:02 Wow, what great news! Fantastic! Can't wait to see it. |
Written by RankNFiled on 2006-11-29 17:27:11 Welcome to the wonderful world of the Pacific Northwest. Please pick up your mukluks at the door, and don't forget your rain coat. Written by PB_Gal on 2006-11-29 17:24:40 Nice one david! Great to see that things have finally started rolling at frightening speed down that hill! And MGM.. you really are using SG mech as much as you can! hehe. Now you MUST bring it down to Australia or you'll have some very unhappy squirrel campaigners! |
Congratulations! Written by xfkirsten on 2006-11-29 17:21:48 Congrats on the distribution! I'm excitedly looking forward to seeing this one! :D Glad to hear you've finally got power back up. We got it "easy" down here in the Seattle area - if you can call an 8-hour-long rush hour on 5/405 an easy one! We're preparing for round 2 (or 3? or 4? I've lost track this month) tonight! :P |
FABULOUS! Written by ZoniDuck on 2006-11-29 17:19:18 Congratulations on the fantastic news about ADB! I am thrilled for you, Jane, Mars, and the entire cast and crew, and for all of us out here in the world who will get to see ADB. Here's hoping your power stays on! |
Written by MdGateFan on 2006-11-29 17:15:09 First, Congrats on getting the movie distributed by MGM... Second - I heard about that storm. Three days stuck inside with no power and no internet...That is no fun. And yes, you don't realize just how addicting the Net can be until you are forced to go for a few days without it... Glad to see you survived it. |
Written by Zerocool on 2006-11-29 17:12:41 I can't tell you how wrapped I am to hear that! Congratulations!!! Glad you're all ok. Don't worry about taking Jane to live there. Us Brits love snow..its a rare thing! But what we do have are water shortages Lots of rain and a terrible transport system. I don't think she's missing much. She's a lucky girl. |
Written by Arlessiar on 2006-11-29 16:55:03 Someone spilt the beans concerning the distributor at the WormholeSquared convention here in Germany two weeks ago, afterwards I've been waiting for the official confirmation - and there it is! MGM! Yay! Congrats! And did I just read "distributed world-wide"??? Seems I might not be the last person on this planet who sees this film then! *is happy* Snow is great, our winter isn't a winter yet, it's much too warm for the end of November! But three days without power - that's bad! Hence three days without internet - even worse!!! I'm glad you and Jane are back in the civilised world now! Bye, A. |
HAPPY!!!! Written by Mercury973 on 2006-11-29 16:54:08 Yea! Happiness! I'm in North Seattle, so I feel your pain. Oh hey, it's snowing again. Who'dthunk? I can't to see the movie! I'll bet there opening night here in town. |

Written by wordplay on 2006-11-29 16:37:06 What fantastic news - congratulations! Finally added a link to the site to my list of media links because now you're really really real! I have a power addiction that is a bit troubling in these oil peak-y times, and now swear by the Energi To Go battery recharger for my handheld electronics - I will never be without mobile phone power again which, besides calming my connectivity jonesing, is probably a bit safer, too. |
CONGRATULATIONS! Written by darklock on 2006-11-29 16:36:25 MGM and world wide distribution. Stupefying news, that! |
CONGRADS TO THE TEAM Written by Wabit on 2006-11-29 16:35:32 Congrads on the news, can't wait to see it on BIG screen. Mmmmm no power for 3 days, just what could you both of done to keep warm. Keep smiling and see you at P2. YAY |

Love Written by windshieldbug on 2006-11-29 16:13:58 Love love love that it's going MGM!! Oh that lion is a tiny housecat, like Rufus or Martha! I'll trade you houses for a few days? I want snow!!!!! Written by crownglass39 on 2006-11-29 16:10:47 Congrats on the wonderful deal! ps. We always keep Triominos in the house. We've neatly avoided spousal abuse in the past when power has gone out for days on end. Michigan weather is not much better than Washington sometimes. |

The last post was meant to say - ...I am really happy for everyone involved in the film... Doh! on my part - was too busy watching Common Ground instead of the keyboard. |
