Nobody knows you're a squirrel
Nobody knows you're a squirrel

Squirrel marketing

Guerilla's are big, can be quite scary and are often a bit stinky, so for A Dog's Breakfast we're going with a "Squirrel marketing campaign".

Many of these have been culled from the fine posting on the the Guerilla Marketing campaign thread in the forums including some great ideas that "Firefly" fans had for the series (if you haven't seen that series, then rent it or buy it, you'll love it - then see the film - in that order.. trust me!)

Below is a "work in progress" list of squirrel activities to get word of our puppy out there. Some of this I've said before some not, have a look and see what works for you and know that anything and everything you do is much appreciated!

The Poster!

Print out a copy of our "Have you seen this Dog" poster put it up anywhere you can (without getting into trouble - it's always better to ask for permission) we're thinking:

  • Pet Stores
  • Vets
  • Local Pounds & animal shelters (that's where we got Mars!)
  • Film Schools
  • Trees
  • Telephone poles
  • Slow moving old people (or sleeping young ones)

Ask to see A Dog's Breakfast!

  • Fill out the request a screening form on www.adogsbreakfastmovie.com
  • Let the TV networks know that you want to see A Dog's Breakfast
  • Tell local theatres that you want to see A Dog's Breakfast
  • Call in to your favourite radio stations and recommend that people see the film.

Post or comment or recommend A Dog's Breakfast on any sites and forums that you think appropriate (pets, indie filmmaking, Stargate etc.)

This is actually quite fun. I used to play years ago - now I'd better start doing it again!

The basic premise is that you buy and sell fictional stock in actors, movies etc. - No real money required! The beautiful thing is that the studios use this information to guage how well a film or and actor is doing - so:

Merchandise & Fan designed goodies!

I've heard squirrel chatter about merchandising this thing. I will officially say right now - feel free! Come up with whatever you'd like, we're totally cool with that. I'd love to have T-shirts and such for you (dog bandanas is another GREAT idea!), but time and money means that they have to wait. Hopefully, once we announce the distribution deal (oops I mean after the L.A. screening) we'll be able to put something "official" together for you. In the mean time, go nuts, have some fun, see what you come up with and do it with our blessing! In fact, why not This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it pictures of you modeling your creations and we'll post them on the website!

Hopefully I'll have more to add here as the bigger brained squirrels begin to weigh in!

Peace & Thanks!

I won't see you at the screening, but I hope you have a lovely time. I am not seething with jealousy or bitterness at ALL, really. Not one bit.

T-Shirts at SG11
Written by Annie on 2006-11-06 07:13:04
I'm planning on joining Tiggerific, Muffin and Wabit in wearing t-shirts advertising the film at SG11 this weekend (seeing Tiggerific is being a doll and sorting the t-shirt out for me), especially as Paul will be there. :grin

Will try your other ideas tonight when I get home - I'm sitting at my work desk trying to act interested but considering the department I work in, that would take a miracle! :zzz

Somebody else here speaks Latin! I actually understood that BEFORE I read the translation, Jan.

As for marketing, I have the optimal staging area for tests: The Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles. It's a big place for every single demographic we're trying to reach! I'm also messing with Photoshop, but not making a poster. It's something else, and if it's done by screening time I might have a copy with me.

Yes, I shall see you there. The question is, will you see me? ;)

Wow. Always exciting to hear that something you start takes on a life of its own.

The squirrely marketing shall begin in earnest, now. We'll try to get a little more organized over on the boards.

And it's nice to finally see what you look like, Jane!

VCon and NorWesCon would be great ideas for marketing, as mrskorber noted above. Here's the url for the NorWesCon site:

NorWesCon

This coming year it'll be April 5-8 at the Seatac Doubletree Hotel in Seatac. (Yeah, I know, lousy name for a town.)

*chitters lovingly*

I wish I could get down to LA for the screening, but alas, alack and forsooth, I'm stuck in Everett.
Ecce! Jane pulchrissima est!

My idea to add
Written by Alby on 2006-11-04 11:50:30
I posted this in the forum section a while back, it has the do with A Dog's Breakfast MySpace, if you have any questions email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Ok here's the plan:

A triangle of publicity like so, take in the shape.

H'ok. You are at the top, what I need you to do do is follow the following instructions:

1. Refer the 'A Dog's Breakfast' Myspace to 2 people on your friends list.

2. Make them add the movie.

3. Once they have added it, tell them to comment the page. They can tell us what they think of the previews of the movie or they can tell me how much milk costs in Alaska. I don't mind.

4. The two people you add must start at number one.

I think this can be a very clever marketing ploy and I will post this bulletin once day for 7 days to get the ball rolling! I need your help to do this and I appreciate it greatly.

Yours Gratefully,
A dog's Breakfast myspace creator and massive anticipatig fan.

I printed out the flyer and put it on my bed room door. One of my dorm mates asked if I missed my medication this morning :grin

Has anyone made ADB icon yet? That would be a good way to get it around the boards. I'm sure there are some private icons, but how about an official one?
A squirrely suggestion

Fan-based cons, ones organized by the people, might be a place to get some free publicity:

http://www.sfnorthwest.org/

http://www.vcon.ca/

Stuff like that. The people are geeks (I've been on a con-com, I AM a geek) and they're often friendly.

Just a thought.

We have offical permission to do these wonderful things!

So many slow moving old people and not enough time! I think the young sleeping ones might scream too much.

Great to hear these news. I gotta admit I'm a bit lazy on all these but I'll try to up your you tube stats and visit IMDB and this Hollywood stock exchange thing (first time I've ever heard of it!). ;)

Great idea to request ADB on HXS! I sent in my email. Now I just need to sell some of my other stocks to buy it when they release it 8)
I'm excited to be able to move forward with more marketing for the movie!
I've managed to get my first convert yesterday. One good thing about a slow day at the office. Even the boss was bored so I showed him the clips on youtube and then around the forum. :grin He's now looking forward to the chance to see the movie.

Squirrel marketing...heehee. I like it. As for merchandising, I'm in favor of it. How about a cafeshop? That way it wouldn't actually cost the person running it anything, but we could get a variety of stuff that looks good.
