Squirrel of Death
Squirrel of Death

Finally, I can relax and share some blog-time with you all!

These have truly been the most exciting couple of weeks of my sad little life. Here’s what we’ve got on the go… Jane the loveliest of Loughmans is in charge of putting together our preview screening of “A Dog’s Breakfast” in Los Angeles next month. At the same time we will be making a rather impressive and (I think) historical announcement as to the distribution plans for the film. Please join us if you can, but if you miss this screening fear not! As long as we can keep those YouTube viewing numbers up, and you don’t mind us exploiting those fine “grassroots marketing skills” you’re all demonstrating so well, then you’ll be seeing a lot more of “the Dog” than even we had planned! Just need to get everything confirmed and then I’ll be giving you the whole scoop.

We’ve got a fantastic new project in the works. Right now we’re sorting out that boring administrative stuff the lawyers love so much. The scary thing is that a few of you seem to have guessed where we’re going next already… you people are good, very good, I look forward to doing battle with you.

Speaking of scary… Halloween is upon us! I’ve been watching all sorts of badly edited for TV horror films on cable and am now too much of a chicken to take the dog out alone for his midnight roam and relief break. Luckily, Jane doesn’t see the danger in vampires, werewolves and Clive Barker so she happily joins me on my perilous dog-by-night adventures. She also managed to dig up skeleton and pumpkin lights and decorated the house. Mars “helped” by mauling all the smaller pumpkins. I was alerted to this fact when the helpless orange forms were seen hurtling down our street with a very happy mutt in pursuit. Then he ate them. Who knew that dogs liked raw pumpkin?! Obviously not us, or we wouldn’t now be facing the Great Tiny Pumpkin Massacre of ’06. We bought tons of candy… because I’m an idiot. Every year I think that THIS year the kids are going to suddenly descend on our remote home and I’m afraid that we’ll be left handing out frozen pork chops in lieu of candy. Two kids, that’s all we got, the whole night! I think I might be the scary guy on the street that everyone is afraid is putting things in the candy. Jane is obviously my evil robot dressed up to look like a beautiful British woman.

Back to frozen pork chops… it’s freezing here but the skies are clear and the stars are unbelievable. Just in case you’re feeling important have a look up at the sky on a clear night in Western Washington, that’ll put you in your place. It doesn’t work so much for me because if I look up I would provide the vampires with a clear shot at my neck, oh and don’t let Jane tell you that the rustling in the bushes that has up till now been raccoons and rabbits, isn’t obviously a man-eating Sasquatch (duh!).

Happy Halloween!

The currently not a zombie D!

I wish I lived in LA...

I would so love to see the screening, but being a poor college student and living in Ohio, it's difficult. I hope I can get a screening in my city. I've already filled out a request and have asked friends to do so as well.

The movie looks great and I can't wait to see it!

Leftover candy....
Written by mrskorber on 2006-11-09 08:28:31
One of the local highschools, McMath in Steveston (Richmond, BC) collects small candies that get made into "kindness" bundles and given out through a local women's aid society.

There's always a place for leftover candy. *g*

I sure hope those distribution plans include international distribution... Like Hungary. After all one of the channels just decided to give us Hungarians a very belated Halloween treat--as there were no scary movies on that night--with finally showing The Cube. We need more Hewlett goodness around here!

I look forward to doing battle with you.

Cow pies at dawn, Mr. Hewlett. Cow pies at dawn!

Congrats on your candy stash and all the progress with ADB. I'm looking forward to hearing all the post-screening reviews.
Six days down another 350 until next yea
Written by Pandora on 2006-11-06 19:42:31
Congratulations on the screening. Know that there is always a film happy crowd to screen your flick here in Austin.

Love the poster too and the clips just make me even more eager to see the film. Alas I have already filled my quota two trips back home to sunny California for this year.

But at least in Austin I increased my trick or treaters ten fold with a record 105 over the two I had in the last six years prior! Darklock you've got me beat.

Good luck on the 16th
~ :)

I'm so happy your getting to hold your first screening but I'm also bummed. My husband and I will miss being able to attend by a few hours. We are flying out of DFW and won't arrive at LAX until 8pm on the 16th. I wish we could be there. I'm glad to hear you'll be making an appearance at the convention in Burbank. Looking forward to seeing you and hearing your announcement. ;)

It's good that Mars likes pumpkin - it's a good, low-fat food, often used to either keep dogs at a healthy weight or to help them get back in shape. But ask your vet how much can be substituted for the regular food.

And as for vampires, well, YOU know they're real - after all, you've met Nick Knight!

Congrats on the Screening!!!! :grin

Love the new clip.

I hope you can have a screening on the East Coast of Canada (NS) some day. 8)

Glad you had a Happy Hallowe'en :grin Did Mars survivie the squirrel's stare, as I'm not sure you did judging by the pic? ;) :grin
Fleece
Written by crownglass39 on 2006-11-02 21:40:19
Upon further contemplation, that fleece David's wearing looks earily familiar.

So, is he "borrowing" from the props department or are they borrowing from him?
Hoots man it's Halloween
Written by rothron the wise on 2006-11-02 17:11:13
Oh scary squirrel of death, I'm glad you survived its onslaught to tell the tale!
Great news for all about the LA screening, hope it exceeds all expectations, and I'm looking forward to hearing all the news. Please do try and bring the merry bandwagon to Scotland :grin
We had a fair amount of trick or treaters which was nice, but it seems no-one makes their own costumes anymore, so no points for effort its just cheating if you buy it from the shop!

Just got this from a coworker (yes, we're all engineering geeks here!) - http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/CylonOLantern
- Full directions on building a working Cylon (toaster model) pumpkin, complete with the red scanning eye! Too cool!
Hope you had a Happy Hallowe'en
Written by Gebo on 2006-11-02 04:13:20
Hallowe'en was miserable here. No-one seemed to have got in the spirit of the thing. I am in the UK but it is probably just around here. Sounds like you had fun though. Mars likes pumpkin!! My dog used to like mouldy bread :sigh. Not the same thing I suppose. :grin

Glad to hear you have a screening in LA. Pity I can't go but wish you well with it,as I'm sure we all do. Hxx 8) (LA shades :roll )

Great to hear that you have a screening for your movie. You and Jane are certainly working hard to bring it to the screen. It's nice to see that it's finally paying off. Hopefully, you will soon have good news for the rest of us who can't take an afternoon off to fly to LA to see it. Good luck

Evil Robotic Dalek Pumpkin

I thought you'd appreciate this, David. You can build yourself an Evil Robotic Dalek Pumpkin. I'm not good with mechanics, but I think I'm going to try carving this next year.
Written by aizneth on 2006-11-01 18:10:54
Congrats to you and Jane and everyone involved on the screening! I'll just be here on the other side of the continent, waiting ever so impatiently. ;-)

Thanks for the 'treat' on Halloween -- new clip! I love it. It's fun to watch you and Mars together on screen. Definitely chemistry.

May I toss in a vote for seeing Paul as Ryan in the next clip released?

Thanks again for the goodies. :-)

Awesome new clips! Haven't looked forward to seeing a film this much since Serenity! Hope it makes it over the pond soon! Good luck with the L.A. screening! Bless Mars's cotton socks :)
HAHA!

OMG I love that picture. I had fun on Halloween.....a family of Trekkies (in uniform) came by. Then some poor kid dressed as a clown. I say "poor" because I hurled candy and screamed bloody murder when I saw him. (Evil squeeky nosed people!!!)null
Jane
Written by crazy4dh on 2006-11-01 14:21:46
I love how you always give credit to Jane. Beautiful, smart, brave, cooks great, and manages to keep you going in the right direction. Sounds like you are one lucky man who knows how lucky he is!
Why don't we ever see Jane pictured here?
Written by lttledvl on 2006-11-01 13:38:52
I'm in there with rosiewook, Atlanta would work for me. Course I'd be willing to drive up to say Balitmore or hell, even DC.

We got out late at Halloween - part of sucks to get home after 6pm. Not as much candy as last year.

You're right about those stars. I had a chance about 2 years ago to see the stars from Leavenworth, WA. From in a hot tub no less!
Written by Kady on 2006-11-01 13:29:12
Congratulations on your screening, Davy-babes!!! Will "A dog's breakfast be screened in the UK? I hope someone can tell me this. you should screen it over here in England, david, cuz you have ALOT of fans here!!! May i suggest as little place in England call The Wirral? It's where i live, and us Wirralians would love to have to here!!! I'd show you around!! Give us a bell on that one!! :p :grin

I spent all last night asking my father how old he was cuz he got the hosepipe out and hosed all the Trick or Treaters!!!

My dog LOVES pumpkin. In fact, he'll eat anything!!! he's a Veggie!!! LOL

Well, gotta go!

Keep the faith, david and give us a bell about that screening at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it !! I wish!!!

Dogs vs squirrels
Written by flutist on 2006-11-01 12:38:19
Who knew dogs liked pumpkin, indeed? And here I always blamed the squirrels of death for eating our pumpkins!

Thanks for the update, and Happy Halloween!
The Fangirl does Halloween
Written by Jen the Fangirl on 2006-11-01 12:26:14
Yay for the screening in LA! I made my request but I haven't gotten a confirmation. *pokes e-mail with her fake wand*

Oooh, you're next plans. :D I think I have an idea what that may be. I can't wait to see it if it's what I think it is.

Awww, I would trick or treat at your house. Or rather, I would give you a fangirl to talk to who would talk your ear off for hours and hours.

Halloween is my favorite holiday of all. Give me a chance to dress up and pretend and I'm there. This year, I volunteered with my city's Halloween event by signing up kids for a costume contest. Then I went to my friend's party where much butterbeer was drunk and bad horror movies were watched.

I'm not surprised by anything a dog might eat. If my dog, Molly, was given pumpkin, I think she'd probably eat it.
Written by Muffin on 2006-11-01 11:35:58
I officially hate the word squirrel its one of those words I cant say properly and everyone laughs in my face and asks me to say it over and over again!

But Squeee Cant wait to hear this cool news really cant!! Dont keep us hanging too long!
No Trick or Treaters
Written by starleet on 2006-11-01 11:25:49
We didn't get a one little goblin this year. Last year it was 5 the whole night in 2 sets so I told hubby this year would probably be none. That's okay, he says he gets the candy. :eek
I can't wait for the screening. Hurry up and e-mail me that I'm in.

:upset
;)
Will there be popcorn, candy and treats, too? Actually just seeing you, David, would be the treat. :grin

Written by Holyshadow on 2006-11-01 11:06:25
Here in Brazil we don't have kids 'trick or treat'-ing =(
halloween is not even a real holiday around here.
I can't wait to see the movie.. of course first i'll have to find a way, but i'll manage (i hope) =D
AWW man!
Written by nomidalantian on 2006-11-01 10:59:48
My mom won't even let me go down to London to the convention, and that's our nation's Capital! I really wish you'd bring it to Hull, England, although you may have to hide your neck far more here than where you are now... well, My mom also never has ANYTHING to do with Halloween, i think her Oct. 31st motto is "ignore 'em or send 'em home cryin'."

Well, I hope y'all have a great time at the dog's Breakfast screening (those who CAN go) and be sure to let us lowly servants who cannot go :( what the special announcement is, as well as how brilliant the film is (but don't spoil it!...also, you better have it come out on DVD as well, any region is fine for me... sory, I appear to be sounding very "mememememememe" don't i... I'll stop)

P.S. I know i've said it many a times but, David you are truly gross! that clip you put up! my god!
Written by Captain Peregrine on 2006-11-01 10:43:29
Hmmm... it'd be very hard to get to LA from Minnesota, so I think I'll wait to see if one gets a little closer. :D *that was my none-too subtle hint to plant one in the midwest* :D

And David, don't fret about the candy: we bought six or seven bags of the stuff and then Mum decided never to hand it out! So now we have six or seven bags of candy lying around the house... well, more like just six becuase I already ate all the Three Musketeers bars. Yummy! :D

And it sounds like you have nothing to worry about from vampires and what not when you've got Mars the pumpkin-mauling-mutt to protect you. And Jane, as well. Sounds like you've got an all-around, 24/7 protection agency there. Though I'd watch out for that squirrel...
Written by MdGateFan on 2006-11-01 10:25:47
Glad to hear about the screening. I hope all goes well with it.

Didn't get any trick or treaters - because A) I live in a townhouse area that doesn't have a lot of kids and B)I wasn't even home - I was in a my B&W printing/darkroom class.

Written by archae_ology on 2006-11-01 10:22:43
I think we got a grand total of 20 kids at our house last night, but at least it was really quite nice outside! My friends and I ended up eating more candy than we handed out though :P

And much congrats on the screening! Wish I could come, but alas, the life of a university student is one of having no money.
Re: The Great Pumpkin Massacre
Written by kittenz2006 on 2006-11-01 10:00:50
Congratulations on the screening, (of course, announcing it after I'd blown this year's holiday is pretty cruel).
As for the Great Pumpkin Massacre 06, I keep getting the mental image of Linus sitting in the pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin and suddenly Mars sweeps in Cujo-like, pumpkin guts everywhere (it's enough to put you off holiday cartoon tv specials). Oh by the way, my dog got into the pumpkin a few years ago, I recommend you purchase some carpet cleaner (nuff said).
Glad there was a new clip up (subject matter, well I think I might need therapy now -and a LARGE bottle of Scope). Anyway, wish you fabulous luck, lots of people for the screening and tons of press coverage. L
PS. What's up with the Squirrel's ears? Industrial Accident? 8)
Written by Nelle on 2006-11-01 09:06:34
Dogs do like pumpkin - I have a friend who feeds her dogs pumpkin each night for the fiber (it is really cute to watch 2 small, white, bischon/poodle mixes circle shark like at pumpkin time...).

Hooray for the screening! I second the hinthint for a screening in the midwest *g*. Looking forward to seeing the movie!
Written by s_aurius on 2006-11-01 08:37:20
Yay for the screening! I would love to attend as well, but I'm thinking the distance will be too far. :cry Hopefully the next one will be somewhere in the middle part of the US?! *hint, hint* :grin

I love the squirrel!

EVERY year I think we're going to get lots of kids.

Every year we get about 40. I don't know where I think they're going to spawn from but hope springs eternal.

We dress up the whole house and put out a fire breathing (ok, fog machine breathing) dragon and yet still, very few come.

In testament to my extremely low IQ, I dressed up in my WonderWoman costume to hand out candy this year...
...yeah, I'm in Michigan. Sometimes my stupidity astounds even me.

BTW, my cats like pumpkins, they used to steamroller them off the counters when I was dumb enough to buy them.
Congratulations!
Written by Pixel on 2006-11-01 07:19:02
Great news about the screening! I'm afraid I will be there in spirt only, due to the distance involved. Thank you for the new clip though.
I'm afraid I'm just a big kid when it comes to Hallowe'en. We deck the house with orange lights, strobe lights, skulls and carved pumpkins. We did have over 100 trick or treaters. My daughters' highschool holds an annual 'Hallowe'en for Hunger' food drive. The kids go door to door collecting tinned food for the local food bank. They usually collect huge amounts and are able to stock the food bank shelves for many months.

There is nothing like staring at a starry sky to make your problems feel pretty insignificant. I always think of a line from the Desiderata :" No doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should". Kind of comforting too.

Congratulations on the screening! For those squirrels who are lucky enough to go, I'll happily bribe you with homemade peanut butter cookies to tell me all about it.

As for Jane: wow. Beautiful, talented, wonderful accent, and she knows how to wield her some wolfbane. What a woman! ** tips hat to the glory that is Jane **

Trick or Porkchop! Sounds good to me. But I'm not really into the whole sugar thing, cake thats a different matter *sigh* yummy!

I really wish I could come to the screening but Germany is still to far away and my Design prof seems to hate us all and we have to do some weird stuff for him (it might even be forbiden in some states...!)

The Great Pumpkin Massacre of '06 sounds like a cool movie and it would be up there with the likes of Snakes on a Plane and other really cool movie titels.

Either way, congratulations on getting a screening set up. I look forward to everyone who will be taunting me on the boards that they've seen it. (However, this could improve our marketing campaign greatly if someone has actually seen the film.)

As for the Great Pumpkin Massacre of '06...I certainly hope this hasn't resulted in the Great Carpet Cleaning of '06. My dog got into some pumpkin and it didn't sit so well for her....

Still laughing at the image of Mars chasing the small pumpkins down the street. That had to be priceless!!

Thanks again!
I have said TRICK before....

Haha okay okay lame pun.. :P No trick or treaters.. although there were plenty of jokes and mockings made on Aussie TV about it! What would happen if someone showed up on ur door and you said Trick!!! hmm was funnier when Rove said it.. not to matter...

I look forward to the news! I was at work when I saw a blog on a friend's journal that told me about the clip but I'll watch it later.

We don't celebrate Halloween in Australia - no pumpkins, no kids, though uh people may have parties just to drink. :grin

I always read of Halloween stories with much amusement because I honestly can't relate to them!

I look forward to the news, and no I have no idea what you're going to say but I hope for the best!

(Pity I don't live in LA - I'd happily go and watch the show - loved the message you wrote). :)

Take care :)

Well, I had to work until 3am. Just thought I check in before bed and look at all the juicy news! A history-making distribution plan? Oooh!

And I love these funny photos you post on your blog. You have such personality! :grin
Written by Arlessiar on 2006-11-01 03:24:38
Is that a chocolate squirrel? :grin
“Squirrel” – one of my favourite English words. I still have to laugh when I think about the “scribble a squirrel” contest. Tonguetwister ahoy.

We don’t have Halloween here in Germany, although quite a few people started celebrating it here in the last years. But it’s not the real thing, so I don’t like it very much. I’d love to experience Halloween in the US once, I guess then it could be pretty funny.

So, only two kids the whole night? Well, seems as if there’s a lot of candy left for you now. *g*

Mars and the pumpkins – LMAO! I so would have loved to see that!

And looking at the stars? I like what you said about that. Whenever I look at them I feel humbled, and also excited about how fantastic life is – and thankful that I was given the chance to live it.

All the best for the ADB screening in L.A.! Have fun! I would say “yeah, cool!” but I won’t, since I live not even near to L.A., so no chance in Halloween hell for me to attend this screening. I’ll be at home on the 16th, pouting and weeping and being green all over. ;)

Oh, and the new clip from ADB? Thanks for that! I smiled when I watched it and also went *yuck* and “ewww” at the same time. You really are evil! :P

Woah, I have to stop writing so much or my comments will end up being longer than your blog entry. 8)

Meh. I worked all Halloween, until 1 a.m. I did get to dress up, though. Turns out a wintery vampire without the fangs looks simultaneiously like a corpse, an "anti-goth", and the White Witch. It was worth it just to see the full second of utter confusion on the face of a guy I went to high school with as he tried to figure out who I was, though.

Congrats on the screening. That's great news. Too bad I live at least a couple days away from L.A.

::sigh:: My favorite holiday ever and I had to work through it. It's especially woefull as I'm now living in a neighborhood that I could reasonably expect to have trick-or-treaters show up.

Of course, living in the 'city' makes it very hard to see much of the stars at night. It's one of the few things I miss about my old house... it was dark enough that I could just barely see the Milky Way.

Wish I could come and take part in the LA screening, but I'm out of vacation time. I don't think I can convince my boss that I need sick leave due to an illness that can only be cured by exposure to a horror/comedy flick. Regardless, I hope it goes over spectacularly well for you.

As for the vampires... string some garlic cloves on a silver chain. That'll take care of the vamps AND werewolves (and probably cause Jane to kick you to the dog house :roll). Sorry, no suggestions for a Clive Barker repellant/amulet.
Written by sueKay on 2006-11-01 02:52:40
well you beat me...We only got one poor little kid at the door on his own!

Wish I could make the LA screening, but it's a wee bit too far to travel!

Love the new clip...lol!

Hope the LA "sneak preview" goes well. Bit too far for me I'm afraid!
As for Halloween, the more unnecessary tat I see in the shops, the more it puts me off the whole thing. What's the Halloween version of "Bah, humbug"? It was quite sweet a couple of years ago when kids in the U.K. made their own costumes, but now all the shops are full of cheap stuff made by people on ultra-low wages in Asia, I decided to discourage my kids from bothering with it at all this year. Gave them some sweets, though.

Halloween 'shruggs'. In Britain that's the day kids wear bin liners right?

Yeah they dress in bin liners or sometimes, if you're my 3 year old niece, as a pumkin.

Will have to warn her about Mars should she ever make it to the other side of the pond! :grin

Yay for the LA screening! I wish I could get down there for it, but I'm hoping you'll have one closer to home soon.

And the toothbrushing clip? EEEEWWWWWW :x
What's Halloween?

We don't really have Halloween in Australia.

I await with baited, minty, breathe your "historical announcement" sounds good. :grin

More coffee needed. I have sympathy I have been awake for 48 hours now!

We're too small and fluffy to do battle with. Methinks somehow you'd win ;)

425 Darklock!

I went all out for halloween and purchased a scary pumpkin slap bracelet. I'm trying to get the early 90s craze back :) Embed that metal into your wrist!

425 trick-or-treaters this year.

Thank-you for the treat of a new hilarious clip, and news.

For the first time in my life, I regret not living in LA. Best of luck with the screening. :)
