Cupcake! -Hey grandpa things slipping your mind now you're such a grand old age?
Can we please move on from the ageist age jokes...the Birthday has left the building...that's it, it's over...can we learn to live again?!
- Flamewar! I'm arguing with myself in my own blog...how sad...and old...is that?
One of those forgotten tasks seems to be the renewing of domain names.
-Like adogsbreakfastmovie.com you doddering old fool?
Needless to say after a few hours and tense moments I managed to snatch our imperiled domain back from the brink of certain auction and get paid up and sorted out. I even splurged on another 5 years!
-You'll be too old to see the screen through the cataracts by then!
Thankfully, Jane looks after pretty much all the finances. The few bills that I insist on maintaining (usually the Internet related things) tend to get missed. Strange how that happens.
-Not when you consider the dementia.
Thanks for all the concerned squirrelmails, but fret not tree loving rodents it's alright, we've not had adogsbreakfastmovie.com sold to marketers of various male enhancing snake oil cure-alls.
-there's a viagra joke in there somewhere
This conversation is over.
-Why, have you forgotten what we were talking about?
Moving on. If things are still weird for you with adogsbreakfastmovie.com it's probably because your Internet provider has an older cached version of the site from when it was down. It should get back to normal in a day or so...sorry for the trouble.
-you mean take pity on a poor senile delinquent
I've just shot the last two days on Stargate Atlantis' "The Shrine" and I've got to say I already miss this episode, almost as much as my Mum who's flapped her way back to Italy a couple of days ago. She flew all this way just to hang out with me and the family on this my 30th birthday. ;-)
-you wish!
The Shrine has been such a great experience all round and it is now officially my favourite Stargate Atlantis episode to shoot...let's hope it's as much fun to watch! "Whispers" is up next, and I've got virtually nothing to do in this one. I pretty much bookend the episode with a couple of nice Beckett Mckay banter. Bit of a drag as Nicole is guest starring and I don't think I've seen her since "Cube"! Hopefully I'll get a chance to say hi next week when I'm in.
-If your heart hasn't given out by then
Baz is officially teething and he's being such a trooper about it all. I can't imagine how miserable it would be to have little toothlets poking out all over the place. He just keeps up a steady stream of drool and giggles. I think we may have won the child lottery...better test our luck with another! It would be nice to get the set!
Birthday wise - thanks again for all the well-wishes. We had a great weekend with Mum and Kate in town, a few friends and neighbours polished off an ocean of sushi from our favourite restaurant out here Maguro Sushi in Ladner...FANTASTIC! Our wonderful Atlantis caterers supplied the b-day cake and Jane whipped up some devilishly good "Sparkles" red velvet cupcakes. On the presents front, my evil friends, desperate to cling to their childhood in the face of my 40th year on this planet (I mean 30th) pooled their resources and bought me a WII game console, complete with Lego Star Wars! Needless to say there won't be much writing or child raising being done in the next few weeks (possibly years!). The last time I sat down to some committed video gaming I ended up killing weeks (and countless legendary monsters) mastering "God of War" on my Playstation 2...I sense another, slightly more active session approaching! Jane has bought me the coolest bike on the planet, a hybrid BMX/mountain/street bike combo that should be showing up any day now...she really wanted to support the local bike shop, which unfortunately has meant many delays and apologies, scheduling and rescheduling deliveries. All I know is that I still don't have my birthday bicycle! I'm all for helping out the little guy, but here's the conundrum - they may be more knowledgeable and usually more enthusiastic about their products, but cheap and fast via the Internet works for me! I don't like having to actually go to the shop! That said, how do the little guys compete anymore at all? I imagine a lot of people go out and do their research in the stores, try things out pick the salespeople's brains with irritatingly specific questions and then go home and order their selection online from the cheapest source!
Not to be out done, Baz splashed out on some serious wheels for himself, a combo jogging stroller/bicycle trailer from which he can be in charge of navigation and snacks. I can't wait to hit the road with the "Bazmobile" in tow! Hopefully I'll have more info and photos any day now!
Cheers,
D!

Funny how titles get cut o Written by krysalys on 2008-05-05 03:58:45 *snicker* The last word in my previous post was "STALE". Also, a PS - how surreal is it to be invited to fan conventions, WITH YOUR LITTLE SISTER, and then having fans actually paying money to have their pictures taken with you and said sibling? Truly frightening. I think my own brother would first be shocked, then burst out in hysterical laughter if people were weird enough to do that to us. So I can only imagine the weirdness of it for you and Kate. On that note, I'm looking forward to the photo op with the two of you in July. Heh. I can hear Kate giving you such crap about all the slobbering fangirls... -----}-@ Kris | For an old fart you're surprisingly NOT Written by krysalys on 2008-05-05 03:46:26 Thanks for that, BTW. For my big brother's 30th (he's only 2 years behind you muahaha) I'd bought him a lovely cane (I mean walking stick, yeah) to go with his then-griping about how he'd be too old to trust himself. Interesting that when one of those supposed "landmark" birthdays happen how quickly the "I'm older than DIRT" utterances get upped by about... oh... ten years. *snerk* BTW - my ten year old son could totally kick your arse in Lego Star Wars, and he's only seen the "first" movie. Okay, so I'm a purist and will only allow him to watch the movies the way his doddering mumsie saw it as a child. Hey, it's only the ONLY way to see it, am I right? *nods* I still want to shove dynamite into JarJar Bink's nether regions and blow him to Ewok-chow, but then maybe I'm feeling a bit resentful at his addition? Okay, I realize I'm getting way too worked up about a movie series. At this point my husband is humanely refraining from rolling his eyes and commenting that anyone who likes science fiction's a bit warped. I still love him, though he's... well, he's right, but still. Scifi's COOL. Happy belated birthday, D, and I'll have a little wedding prezzie for Jane when I see you at Shore Leave this July. Seriously, you and Kate had better have some serious security to protect you from the ravening fangirls. Oh, wait. I'M going to be working Security there! | I'm so sorry i missed it(please read da Written by DanielleS on 2008-05-03 12:03:24 Hey David! I'm so sorry i missed your birthday! You know, you being the one improving the hologram interaction in Atlantis and creating a modified replicator....well I would of thought you'd already have all of the newest released consoles. Anyways, are you going to give us your friend code ? I understand why you may not, considering the fact that Atlantis is one of the best rated shows out there, you'd be spammed with invites! Also, Speilberg and EA has a game coming out called Boom Blox, check it out!!! It looks awesome!!! We are going to buy a Wii in the fall. Thanks Patricia | Written by Devon Ellington on 2008-04-25 15:57:23 Glad you had so much fun; I'm telling you, it all gets better from here. Glad the episode was fun, too -- it's always great when one goes well.Makes those long hours worth it. Regarding renewing domains, somehow I managed to set mine for automatic renewal -- it's much easier than remembering. That and the virus protectors go on automatic, because I'd rather focus on other things! Can't comment on the video games, because, believe it or not, I think I've only ever played one in my entire life (and I'm a couple of years older than you are). Enjoy. | Written by MdGateFan on 2008-04-25 09:46:42 A few more thoughts - On trying to get one more kid - be careful what you wish for. My sister decided she wanted a sibling for her daughter and now she is expecting twins. While talking there is nothing wrong with talking to yourself, arguing with yourself...not a good sign. But still, most civil flame war I have seen in some time. But keep one thing in mind - you know what they say (if you can remember it that is - memory is one first things to go ) you are only as old as you feel. And from what it sounds - you are still feeling pretty young. | Lucky! Written by Aten on 2008-04-25 09:34:30 I remember when my baby sister was teething. You lucked out in the extreme! Who's idea was it to get you a Wii? First time I played on mine, my friend gave me a nosebleed by smacking me in the face during an overenthusiastic game of wii tennis. It is frighteningly addictive though. Good to hear you enjoyed working on it too. Enjoy your newest toys and thanks for getting the site up and running again. I am still using all the old settings and bookmarks and I only had one day of trouble so at least for some of us it started working again fairly quickly. | Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!! Written by Squonk on 2008-04-25 04:49:07 Boyfy bought me Lego Star Wars a couple of weeks ago - how brilliant is it?!?! This game will seriously take over your life. I can safely say not one day has gone by without us playing a couple of levels - he's as addicted as i am, and he doesn't even like Star Wars! He's already talking about buying Lego Indiana Jones when it comes out. But if you really want to feel old - get Wii Sports. I am embarrassingly unfit (and crap at baseball) You really do seem to have lucked out with Baz don't you?? He must be saving it up for his teens..... | Written by kimberweeme on 2008-04-25 02:30:18 Your sweet little family is adorable! I'm glad the site was saved, "The Shrine" is wonderful, and your birthday was fun and family filled! My brothers have a Wii and I kind of want to whisk it away to my own abode. But! It's okay, though. I'm a Young Adult Librarian and the YA Assistant and I convinced the library director that we absolutely needed a Wii. And we got one! Hurrah! Now, every other week we get to play Guitar Hero (I haven't advanced beyond easy), Wii Tennis (kind of a work out), and, lately, Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I always lose (because I am very bad), but I think the teens have a fun time killing my poor little character. It's always fun! Enjoy your presents! Cheers Marce | Age is just a number Written by telpethoron on 2008-04-25 00:20:03 I found that out after I hit the "30" benchmark. As I approach 40, I find I don't even think about birthdays much any more. To me, it's mostly just another day on the calendar. As much of a gamer as you are, I'm surprised you don't have something like the Playstation Portable. I bought the slim version a few months back, and love it. Not only can I play games on it, I can watch video clips and listen to music as well. Like an iPod, only cooler! Baz is looking so great these days, as are you and Jane. When you and Jane do decide to try for another one, maybe you'll be lucky enough to have a girl. Can't wait to see what the Bazmobile looks like! Belated Happy Birthday. Lego StarWars -- much much fun. Soooo addictive. And the best part is, since it's for the Wii, time spent playing can count as "workout time". | Written by Nightsister on 2008-04-24 23:11:43 This is sort of funny and weird at the same time. I'm reading your entry and looking at the picture, and I'm thinking that Baz's one piece sleeper looks awfully familiar. Then I look over at my own son and Kai's wearing the EXACT same sleeper! Sort of a bizarre moment to say the least! And hooray for birthday presents! LEGOS + Star Wars = nerdy goodness! I guess you're not the Guitar Hero/Rock Band type, then? Beckett and McKay Banter?!? YEY!!!! | David can I come over and play on the Wi Written by nanook660 on 2008-04-24 15:24:16 David you said "better get the set"? Ummmm does Jane know about this? Toys you got toys!!!!!!!! Can I come over and play? David what else did you get in the way of pressies? Must warn you if you do start playing those ZELDA games they are addictive. Zelda is awesome. You will love it. Mario is not bad either. Oh and Castlevania is an awesome game too. Oh and is Prince of Persia on the Wii too. That's a cool game too. David here is a Link to "Gamefly" You can rent Video Games through the mail. Twice just makes you a dork (why yes, I do remember you forget last year since you ask...) Heh, glad it's all sorted and good for another five years. As for getting "the set" a) babies rarely come to order and b) does Jane know about this neferious plan? You might just need her help... Being in the UK and now totally behind on SGA, I have no idea what you're talking about with The Shrine. This makes me very sad. We're the last to get anything. Including ADB... any news on a UK release yet??? Helen (who is still waiting to see this damn film) PS: you would have to have the Q&A on the 28th June, wouldn't you? I'm starting to take this personally...
 | Addiction Written by Barcardicider on 2008-04-24 15:01:02 David Glad you had a great birthday, we're the same age now - 30 1968 er I mean 1978 was a good year So very glad website is safe for the next five years - I am kinda ashamed to say I was having a complete breakdown not being able to get on. Now I don't know if that was because I missed YOU or chatting to the Squirrels Lets call it a draw! All the best to you, Jane, Baz and Mars. PS Baz is an absolute cutie, but any chance of some news about Mars - I only ask cos Ez (my dog) mentioned it | You are too funny Written by nanook660 on 2008-04-24 14:52:51 Hi David!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are sooooooo funny. I love seeing new Posts from you. They always crack me up. And welcome to the 40 age era. Like they say it's all uphill from here on out. Or is that downhill? David we missed you so much. We all were worried about you. I even had thoughts of what the SGA writers must be doing to poor McKay this Season. I still am curious. Thought that they had hung you upside down in a tree, or threw you in the pool and left you in there. You know those crazy writers. David, you must play those ZELDA games they are so addictive. Did you and Jane save us any cupcakes? Bazmobile. David you must take pictures of that. DO NOT FORGET TO WEAR A HELMET and make sure Baz has one too. We must protect those awesome brains of yours and his. Hugs Fran | 30 is the new 40 Written by green on 2008-04-24 14:42:57 Beckett and McKay?! Banter? Banter Banter? Realz? At least we now know we didn't break the site, we, uh, chatted quite a bit in the days before your birthday. Can't wait for the new season of Atlantis.
