Look at that, off topic again - today we're shooting the entire Atlantis away team, looking like drowned rats, cowering atop a submerged stargate. Okay Joe, Rachel and Jason are crouching, and look more like lithe glistening sea-panthers...but I'm doing my part and representing for the bedraggled geeks with sinus problems. The interesting part of today's filming is that all this takes place in the studio! Jim Menard, who shot our "A Dog's Breakfast" film is having all sorts of fun with little P2 cameras and snorkel lenses and aquariums in a bid to turn our corner of the studio into a massive glacial lake. So they hose us down, we climb up on half a gate and (apart from the fish tank) they put the water and the scenery in later...how cozy! Got to love that green screen technology, otherwise we'd be deep in the heart of nature...and you know how I feel about nature and it's dangers and allergens! Looks like my careless wish to "pave nature" may actually come to fruition by the way as Vancouver spreads further out and the many locations we've used on SG1 and Atlantis in the past become condominiums (where you'll be able to look down on nature I imagine).
Jane and Baz came for a little visit on set yesterday. Mummy arrives from Italy today...something about "a birthday"? I can only hope that my son Baz will be as glad to hear that I'm winging my way half way around the world to see him someday! Kate was shooting and blew us all away with her execution of a very emotional and tearful scene. Naturally she hated her performance. Good actors always seem to hate the work they do, until they get some distance. It's a weird job this acting-thing. You can be having a fantastic day and you're in the best of moods, and then all of a sudden a single look, or line of dialogue doesn't happen the way you intended and you go home feeling like a complete failure. It's really no surprise that we're such a fragile bunch...and the reason I tend to avoid actors and deny being one most of the time. ;-)
Many, many Thank You's for all the mail and gifts and what-not I've received so far this year. You are too kind, especially all of you who have made donations, either to Doctors Without Borders, or local charities near and dear to you. Rachel refers to her DWB donation as a "Hewlettarian gesture" which not only saves the world but feeds my immense ego at the same time...well done Girl! You are all special ass-kicking space hero's in my books! Thanks to the remaining Siberian Squirrels for the balloon...it actually says "40" on it...how cruel is that?!...do you know how much flack I'm getting from Jason and Jewel about that?! And apparently using the term "discotheque" also sets them off. I'm happily munching handfuls of birthday M&M's sent to me a little while back (I read each one before I consume it, in case there's a different message on it...or an inaccuracy... or possibly someone else's embarrassingly personal quotation!)...so you can thank Leila for all the extra pounds that the poor submerged Stargate will have to support during today's scenes. I'm so embarrassed that these are just a few of the many little kindnesses I've been showered with. However, you should ALL know (and you all know who you are!) that I really do appreciate everything, especially the donations that help the many less fortunate little Sebastian Flynn's out there in getting the food, water, education and hope that they all deserve...Thanks so much!

since it's in July and incidentally right before Shore Leave in Maryland, is going to Shore Leave and hanging out with my three dear friends that're normally scattered all over the States.
And seeing the Magnificent Hewletts, which is made of all kinds of win. 
The DWB auction this year was incredible, and I'm already looking forward to donating next year, and maybe even contributing a few things of my own for it.
On a completely different bent, I'd love to know when the date for your and Jane's union is, since I believe it's the beginning of July as well? I'll seriously scream for joy if you say the sixth. You'd probably be able to hear me... as well as all the dogs in the lower 48. Heh.
Note to D & J: buy Mars earplugs. He'll need them eventually.

I'm not new to the Stargate franchise - I own all the DVDs to both series so far - but last night something happened that surprised me: I dreamt I had a conversation with you, David, and it was relaxed and funny and then I woke up and thought, "Wow! What caused that!?" So I began researching you on the web, watched conventions on YouTube, read a few articles and found this website and your blogs. So now I'm really hooked! LOL!

I have a friend who has the same birthday and she says she's only known a couple of people with the same birthday. She also "can't stand" McKay. Of course, she only knows McKay from SG-1. Never you fear, she'll be getting into Atlantis If I have anything to say about it !!!!!!
OH, and as an aside, do you have a brother or young uncle or a cousin-twice-removed who has your same sense of humor that isn't quite as famous or as taken?
And can I say that it is painful not to have cable and have to wait for Season 4 to come out? I still don't know what McKay does to get them out of their VOID in space without any POWER! NO, don't TELL me!
Any idea when Season 4 is going to come out on DVD? Tomorrow? Next Thursday? Someday soon? Please?

I have been spending part of this past week with a 80 year old who in many ways is in better shape then most 40 year olds. Besides, Baz will there to make you feel young.

Happy 40th! Did I mention that I'm NOT 40....did I say that...LOL
Age is nothing. I'm 37 on Tuesday and I still act and feel like I'm 24.
Except for the whole memory thing. Found out this morning that overweight
causes dementia and smoking caused Alzhiemers so as least I
know why now! My brain cells are dying - I killed them! chocolate cake or memory mmmm....Chocolate Cake!!!

Did you say rain! I love the rain! It has been raining so much in Sydney lately! Which is a good thing cause we have been having major water restrictions Level 5. Which is pretty bad. Rain grings happy times for me anyway!

I like using the rain to help me sleep too when I have problems sleeping. Living here in the Northwest and my nature/hiking hobbies seems to rain on me more than shine. But I’d rather have rain than a 100-degree day anytime. Hack 80 degrees is too hot for me.
Kate and you are too hard on yourselves. You both do a fantastic job and you guys do a wonderful job at making me laugh or cry with your characters on screen. |

I love the rain too! I live in Tasmania and people assume it rains here all the time but really, not that much. Plus the on-going drought kinda kills the rain clouds

I have no idea when it actually was? if i had more time at the moment, i would look it up. i am sure that info is somewhere online. Does that make me a bad fan, or just more normal than most? You be the judge of that one. I myself just turned 1 more year older (yesterday...tax day for us Americans, oh joy! haha).

Rain is NOTHING, I live up in Prince George (head north for 9 hours on highway 97 and you'll find the hic town where moose and deer wander the streets) and rain is nothing, we still get snow, and still HAVE snow! The high for Saturday is -2C. Rain is a warm welcome!!! |

Hello from sunny Ohio (for a change). It's usually monsoon season here this time of year, so I understand. Got off work early and plan on going out to play.
So, you're turning 40 huh? Hope you won't hold it against me about the cards I sent ya! I don't turn 40 for another 4 years, so I couldn't resist. I think you look fabulous, so just look at it as just a number. (Remind me of that in 4 years ok?)
As far as your cast mates looking like sea-panthers, then you look like a sleek geek. There is nothing bedraggled about you sir!
Just a side note (and plug if I do say so myself), I raised $500 for my local Race for the Cure this year. (Granted it came from one person, but still). I was so pleased and have to say that I thought of you and my fellow squirrels when that donation came in. In fact, I came straight here to share the news. I have never interacted with so many generous people on line as I have here, so I have to thank you for that.
Anywho, time for me to go play in the sunshine. Have a wonderful, blessed birthday.

He celebrates our son's birthday and not his each year (they are only 3 days apart) that way he doesn't get any older. Our son will be 28 this year. His dad was 30 when he was born so soon they will be the same age. Try explaining that to friends. Have a great day and enjoy the visit with your Mom's. As a designer, I can understand Kate's (and all actors) feelings about disliking what they do. I always seem to think my designs suck more than usual but as long as other people don't agree with me, or at least don't voice their agreement, I guess that means they're not so bad. That's the curse of an artist, isn't it? Self deprecation.

Woah, so many updates in such a short interval, you must have a lot of free time on your hands. Just joking. And not that I'm complaining of course!
Rain in April - where I live it's the same, April is the month in which it rains a lot, more than usual, and it rains a lot here in general. But I like it. The summer heat is nice for a very short time, but not for long. I prefer to stay inside anyway, and if rain forces me to stay in the house then I'm happy for that excuse. And the sound of rain outside is wonderful, makes everything even cozier.
It's so sweet that your mother is flying over for your birthday! I think it must be hard when your parents live so far apart from you. I seriously thought about emigrating to another country a few times already for different reasons, but then I just cannot do it because I cannot bear the thought that I would not be able to see my parents for many months.
I hope you'll have a great birthday!!!
The 18th is also the b-day of my grandma, so I'll be in a pretty festive mood on Friday.

I think my card may be a few days late -- it didn't arrive in my *own* mail (I special ordered it) until Monday, but I mailed it out to you right after I got and signed it. So my apologies if it ends up a tad belated. In the meantime, regarding turning 40, console yourself with the knowledge that Joe "The Flan" Flanigan will always be older than you.
Glad your mum will be out for your special day -- I imagine Kate will still be around too? You guys gonna party hearty, or are you intending to stay under the radar? *Grin* 40 spankings would probably hurt -- let's hope Jason Momoa doesn't get any ideas.
As far as the weather goes, this year we seem to be doing marginally better in the rain department here in Florida -- still not as much rain as we *should* have, but at least the drought we've had going for years at this time seems to finally be over. Funny, if I were back in sweet home Chicago, it'd probably be raining far more than it is here in Florida .... April showers and all that, 'ey?
Don't talk to me about condos, man -- lost two apartments in Chi-town because the buildings were bought and converted, and the rent quadrupled. I feel for those poor evicted squirrels in the wilds of Vancouver ....
As for Kate's performance, artisans of any kind are their own worst critics, right? I'll do a drawing, be proud of it for all of thirty minutes, and then *hate* it after. It just pushes us to do better every time, though, right? But yeah, actors, artists, musicians -- we're all a pretty neurotic bunch, sou desu ne?

Still 39!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got 2 years before I hit that landmark and I hope to be living in good old Vancouver by then.
I have never felt so at home on a holiday before, the people are fantastic and so friendly. I even got a hug off a lovely women shop assistant as she sensed I was heading home on Saturday. (Could of been the tell tale getting rid of shrapnel into the animal charity tin that gave it away).
I'm scoffing M&M's as well so at least I know I'm in good comapny as the pounds pile on. ROFL.
