Shrine Monday! PDF Print E-mail
Written by dgeek
Monday, 14 April 2008
Yes Monday AM and I'm blogging...had time to learn a few days worth of lines on the weekend...what a civilized way to start the week!

Needed on set now, so forgive any mistakes below!

Today we begin a new episode, Brad Wright's "The Shrine"...the one I'm so excited about. Kate is here acting up a storm and asking hundreds of irritating questions and generally trying to make people think she's nicer than me...bring it on sinister sibling! We've got Jewel back from her adventures in Australia and she's in fine form, having already had me in stitches a few times and we haven't even shot anything yet?! Jason and Rachel are playing the comedy duo...certainly in the scene we've just shot anyway. I think we should just cave and make Stargate Atlantis an all out comedy...so many good jokes going to waste off camera...hmmm. Speaking of which, we're hoping to hear word on the latest "Starcrossed" synopsis some time soon...this week maybe? Finger crossed for Starcrossed! Things move so much slower when you're working in the big leagues. It's so much quicker when you're doing it all yourself...but then again, you also have to pay for everything yourself...so bring it on SciFi!

I received a couple of emails recently that really made my day. The first was a request from the BBC to review the first episode of the new Doctor Who series! Apparently someone there had discovered my deep dark Tom Baker fuelled Doctor Who addiction....wonder where they got THAT from? ;-) Unfortunately thanks to a heavy McKay shooting schedule and a publicity photo-shoot that weekend I couldn't do it...I mean screw the review, I was going to see the episode before anyone else...Nerd-vana! Maybe next time!

We've now watched the first couple of Battlestar Galactica episodes and we're right back to Frakking hooked again. There are some damn fine twists and turns and it's just such a perfectly erudite space soap...don't worry, Jane explained most of it to me.

I'm told that not one, but two count 'em TWO McKay "action" figures are now out in the stores. Apparently there is a rapidly dwindling supply in my local comic shop...What? They've not sold out yet?! The fine lads and ladies at Diamond Select Toys are sending a little army of me my way as we speak. I walk around with my hands cupped for action (like my tiny representatives) in the hopes of being recognized...though I think the doll looks better in the uniform and certainly has a better hairline...If you must know, I think I have a bit of a boy crush on my own action figure, he just seems angry and misunderstood, yet poised for danger...he's my best friend...what can I say, he just "gets" me ;-) The thing now is to keep my mini-me's away from "Baz the Snatcher". He has become the master of grasping all which he is forbidden...let the kid-proofing begin! That or he just has to spend more time in the little room of punishment under the stairs until he learns to conform and obey my every whim. If only he could be re-programmed as easily as the cylon raiders

The other email I received was from a retired policeman in Buffalo NY who bought a run-down old porn movie theatre and turned it into a youth center where he shows films that he feels would inspire and entertain and keep the kids on the straight and narrow. He wants to show "A Dog's Breakfast"...I was so flattered! What an amazing guy and what a fantastic idea! How great would it be to demonstrate to kids what an amazing experience it is to make a film, and how (thanks to technology) accessible and it is these days. I understand how easy it is for me to say this having had such a blessed childhood, but if only kids could be convinced to share their stories instead of becoming just another sad tale of drugs, alcohol gangs and wasted potential.

And finally, yet more Bark of Truth brilliance from you wonderful squirrels! I love how this one plays with the taglines...Thank you FL1PP1INHECK!

Peace be in the Galaxy!

D!

I think what's best about the action
Written by krysalys on 2008-05-05 04:25:21
figures is if you and Jason, Rachel, Joe and everyone else who has them would show up on set and demand that the action figures get to, you know, actually fulfill their "action" status.

You know, either with a show filmed entirely with the action figures (insert witty commentary about lameass stoopit Ancient technology left lying around here), or insist that the action figures do all your stunts from now on, thereby allowing for a totally justifiable increase in all your salaries now that there's money freed up from the other stunt double's salaries... *pets the poor maligned and very hardworking stunt doubles' heads* (Just kidding, dears, we all love you best, really)

*whistles* Yes, I think it's already understood that I'm completely deranged. *snigger* And no, I'm definitely not including Chuck C. in the soon-to-be-jobless human stunt double category, since he's rightfully graduated into set-extra NOW!complete-with-lines! status.

Also, I'd be a very happy owner of SGA action figures, except my husband thinks I have a scary attachment to the series already and has forbidden me to own them. *whistles innocently*

lovely lumps . .
Written by Kelandry on 2008-04-24 04:15:20
The hospital I work at has instituted a biggest loser health challenge. Several of my co-workers signed up and named their team - lovely lady lumps! They looked askew as I started to laugh. I didn't think they've heard of the movie so I quickly set them to right! :)

I was a fan of Stargate when I discovered A Dog's Breakfast and haven't laughed so hard in a long time! I was reading your blog at work today (I work exciting nights!) and had to stifle laughter so my coworkers wouldn't think I'm crazier than I am. :)
I joke with my family about starcrossed. I'm volunteering at comic-con so they tease me that my chances are better than average for getting a role! I just laugh. I love the idea of the show, especially with the bombastic acting.

Happy birthday!

I was sitting in my Music Theroy class, reading your little bit about theaction figure and trying (very unsuccesfully) to stop from laughing... Everyone was watching me as I supressed giggles and turned bright red in the face from trying so hard not to laugh. Shame on you for being so funny! ;D

It's really cool that the policeman wants to show your movie. It must be such an honour, and I must say, you deserve it!
The Force is strong in this one...
Written by doublenatural on 2008-04-16 07:57:20
Wow, turning down the opportunity to review Doctor Who? That would take more willpower than I possess. The Force is strong in you, young Obi Wan.

Didn't you know? It's a sister's prerogative to drive her brother crazy. Written right there in the contract ;) And not you as well - my friends haven't shut up about BSG. I think I'm just going to have to cave to peer pressure and watch it.

You better watch out for Baz and your mini-me - not too long after the grasping comes the sticking things in mouth and chewing stage. You'll come home one day to find he's bitten your head off, literally :p

Good luck with filming!

Baz rules
Written by Snow_Leopard on 2008-04-16 00:48:56
Glad to hear you’re having a good time on set. Good to hear Kate is being a good sibling and possibly driving you crazy.
:grin

Another action figure of McKay. 8) Hope you manage to keep Baz and Mars away from yours. I packed or enclosed anything I don’t want my two pesky cats getting. Baz obey your every whim, lol David, more like he's got you wrap around his finger. ;)

So Jane keeps you in the loop on Battlestar Galactica. That’s good and yes it’s addictive. Just like another show I like to watch, I wonder which one that is? :p :grin

Keep up the good work David. I’ll keep my Fingers crossed for Starcrossed and wait patiently for season 5. 8) :)
Would love to hear your say on Who
Written by Torchwood on 2008-04-15 21:29:42
David,
Glad that all is going well with you. I hope that Baz is keeping you on your toes. Don't baby proof the house, house proof the baby. It can be done, I promise you.

I'd love to hear what you have to say on Doctor Who. Cause of my geekyness, I've seen all the eps so far, and they are pretty good. I've become more and more passionate about history, so the recent story of Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius was good.

I can only imagine being a Time Lord and having to make the kinds of decisions that he does. You're right Tom Baker rocks! I also love Peter Davison, Chris Eccleston, and the man himself, David Tennant. Would love to see a crossover show. Hmmm....it could happen.

Give Baz, Jane and Mars a hug and kiss for us from Tennessee.

Love,

I was wondering...
Written by TheSprklnEmerald on 2008-04-15 14:20:42
...when someone would use "Your dog can't save you now" for one of these. It's just too perfect. I love "The blinds have been drawn." *snicker*

Mass comment on latest bloggage.
Baz is adorable in that pic!
Thanks for the work on the site. I have a Joomla! site that I work on, and it makes me nuts! i wish I just had to do the content management. *sigh*
Congrats on the international release of ADB! And the little screen in August? Hmmmm.
Can't wait to see Kate in another episode. You two are just fabulous together on screen! I'm so glad they decided to keep bringing her back.
Thanks for the links. Very cool.
I keep talking about how Galactica is too dark and angsty for me. But I keep watching the frakking show! :roll Doesn't hurt that Callum Keith Rennie is one of the Cylons. ;)
I just got a Jonas action figure for my birthday. I love my Jonas. (The action figure looks more like Robert Patrick, but I'm okay with that. :D
I saw the McKay action figures. One of them was only being sold with the full set, though. :(
That's it for now. I can only get online at work now, so I have to be sneaky. :D
Cheers!

I'll cross my fingers with you David, I'm dying to here when it comes out!

Glad your filming is going well, hope we have lots of McKay stuff to look forward to - yes I would love to see more comedy in SGA - I'm running out of clean hankies for all the weepy stuff!!!!

Sorry you didn't see your Dr Who preview, the new season rocks.

Hope Baz does not chew all your McKay action figures, or Mars either for that matter. (my mum used to have a dog that chewed my son's lego!!!!)

Love Dr Who!
Written by Cherish4 on 2008-04-15 13:57:14
Thanks for the update David, nice to hear that you're all having such a blast filming the new season.

It's a shame that you didn't get chance to see Dr Who, as so far it's been great to watch. David Tennant is just fantastic! :)

I think Mark was teasing
Written by rosiewook on 2008-04-15 12:37:14
From conversations I had with Mark at Dragon*Con, he is a total geek. I suspect he was teasing you guys.

But he also said he rarely has time to watch TV, anymore. So he might have said that to forestall any probing questions that he couldn't answer.
Written by nanook660 on 2008-04-15 11:07:44
Ahhh yes the famous "child grabbing everything that isn't tied down"

David playpens, highchairs, cribs, dog crates are great to keep kids in. Okay not the latter but you know what I mean. And please do not put Baz in a Crate.

I have a funny story. I used to look after my niece and nephew when they were really young. Before my niece was born my nephew was still in the stroller. I had to go and do some shopping. While at the checkout there were these candies in a garbage pail right at the level my nephew was at. Long story short, my nephew pinched them and I did not notice until we got home. I did not get mad at him I was just shocked. When my sister got home I told her and she laughed. and told me he had done it before. My sister failed to tell me that I had to watch him at the checkout.

David make sure you put the locking device on all the toilets in your house or say goodbye to your car keys or you'd have to play the "fish it out the toilet game"

As for the comedy in SGA there should be more of that. I love the funny lines and the antics. The more antics and shenanigans John's Team gets into the better.

I want a Rodney Doll too......Actually I'd love a pillowcase that had a picture of Rodney McKay on it. Then I can rest my head on Rodney McKay every night........ummmmm that gives me an idea

Have fun with Kate and try not to tease her too much

Have a great week.

Hugs

Lovely to see you posting like crazy - you're spoiling us squirrels!

SGA comedy style!
Written by animallover on 2008-04-15 07:05:54
Hi David,
SGA a comedy style epi would be good for one ot two epi's!

Yes! I think you have to start to baby proof caused it sounds like Baz is going to start to crawl soon. My nephew Jackson is 2 months older than baz & he bounces on his bum to get what he wants & he is really fast! He is really smart.
Wow! You could of reviewed an epi of Doctor Who before anyone else got to see it! I hope you get the chance again! That would be cool! :)

Take Care & Happiness always!

Dr.who! we're on the second episode over here :grin
Whether you watched it or not it must be gratifying to know that our annoying comments to the BBC have got through to them and that they are very much aware of you ;) ;) ;)
What?!?
Written by willowscat on 2008-04-15 02:47:52
Are you feeling alright David? Seriously turning down anything Doctor Who related would kill me! And the first two eps are what I would call very kid friendly. Doctor Who still remains the most moral show on TV, SGA could learn something. Just saying.

I have one of the two action figures as well, have you seen them? McKay's stubble is blue, also he smells :p definitely keep him away from your child, they are probably toxic! lol

Glad to hear Kate is back! :grin
Atlantis Comedy and BSG
Written by SheppardsonlyPie on 2008-04-15 01:10:17
Hey much as I love all the whumping sinister goodness that is brewing season five, I would love to see an episode where you guys are hamming it up!!

As for BSG....I'm telling you they are putting in subliminal messages to keep us constantly on the edge our seats and begging for more. Making us work our poor little brains into overtime trying to figure out plotlines and such. They should advertise Excredrin Migraine...Honestly!!

Oh.... and Just wait til Baz realizes that tail on Mars doesnt Actually come off.....;) lol.

Have fun David!!

Seen two of the new Dr. Who episodes and
Written by kathmuse on 2008-04-15 00:57:47
not so much. Then again, I thought the Torchwood finale was deeply lame. If I think I could write something better, then there is a problem. I actively dislike Catherine Tate, which may be the Dr.Who issue, and so far her character really irks me (and not in a good way). She has some good comedic bits, but I was perfectly happy when her "Runaway Bride" eppy ended and I thought I'd never see her again. Her character says, "You have GOT to be kidding me!" quite a lot, so perhaps she's channeling your character.

Galactica, though? Exquisite.

Another update? You are seriously spoiling us here, David...and we love you for it. I was curious, though - from what I read, the title for "Shrine" had been changed to something else...or did they decide to change it back? Hmm...

If you have a chance to watch the new series of Doctor Who, you should. It's some of the best television to come out of Britain in quite a while. I got hooked on it shortly after it first reappeared with Chris Eccleston in the title role, and I've been following it ever since. David Tennant is a superb actor, bar none.

Baz is learning to grasp things, eh? You're going to have your hands full with that little fellow now - time to start moving all the breakables to the top shelf.

That policeman's email was such a touching story - it's good to know that there are people like that who strive to do something good for others.

Love to you and yours, and best of luck with Starcrossed!

Ahh what can I say I think I would have given up a day on the dig to review an episode of DW. And As for BSG... well what can i say other than the fact that its frackking driving me nuts. Mostly because no one in my house can agree on WHO the final skin job is. Then we get into the philosophical debate over who is the Saviour/messiah as it were and are they from the Gods or God.

Good luck with Starcrossed, and Line memorization. I dont have any problem with musicals...but I have a feeling a show for the television is much more challenging with the sets being more intricate and so on.

I am sorry to my Reluctant Genius crew - I WILL film that one scene tomorrow! I will also get the green screen keying done ASAP.

Yay! Another blog from you. It made my crappy day much, much better.

Too bad about Doctor Who, the new season is pretty good. Have you watched any of the newer seasons?

So excited for you about Starcrossed. SciFi knows a good thing when the see it! ;)

If I recall, Flanigan said that his one son sleeps with the "daddy action figure" up his nose, so I would agree on keeping Baz away from the McKay army. McKay would have a fit to be treated in such a manner! :p

Sounds like you're as busy as ever, and glad to hear you're having fun on the set. I just bet that's a blast. It's great when you work with people who have great senses of humor.

A lot of us squirrels are counting down the days to Shore Leave, so you and Kate better be prepared. We're all looking forward to seeing you both!

As always, love to you,Jane, Baz and Mars

Another blog! And a sizable one, too! Rock on! :D Tell Kate "hi" from all your squirrels! And why not film some of this comedy gold for us? JoeM's always filming little snippets from the set. after all ...

That's a shame about not being able to do the Who review. Did you see any of the first three seasons of the new series? I like Tennant okay, but I adored Eccleston! Did you see the charity skit Tennant did with Davison? That was so sweet! (Even if I did prefer Baker and McCoy to Davison.)

Cool about the theatre-screeing request! :D That's our David, making the world a better place! ^^

My friend picked up the new SG figures -- she says McKay comes with a ZAT gun?? WTH?? Hopefully they're have some at Dragon*Con this year -- I picked up the Eccleston Who figure there last year. Was going to get Vala, to go with the Daniel I have, but she didn't turn out all that well, alas.

Oooh, that vid is really creepy! :D Good job, FL1PP1INHECK!

I'm glad I wasn't with Kimberly and Trish when they talked to Mark Sheppard at MegaCon(I was too busy networking *sigh*), 'cause I don't think I would have been able to stay polite at that! If he's too "highbrow" to *watch* sci-fi, what's he doing *playing* in it? Hmph! Beware the wrath (wraith?) of Wolfie!! ;)

Speaking of Mark Sheppard ... When the new BSG came out, at first I was too upset at the changes (since I adored the original Starbuck) -- I thought they should have picked up from where the other show left off, or said that it was something like 20 years later and made the new Starbuck be a descendednt of the old, or just made it an antirely new show, since it was so different anyway. But I've found myself wathcing it more and more, as time went on. Now, much of the time it's a little tooooo dark (talk about a show taking itself seriously!), and a little too much political & tactical talk for my liking, but it's slowly growing on me. (Still not nearly as good as either Stargate show, though, IMNSHO.) I think the Cylons, on the whole, are much more interesting than the humans, save for Baltar, who's my fave character (of course, he could be the last Cylon, 'ey?) His scenes in the first ep of the season were especially compelling, I thought .... (Mark Sheppard was Baltar's lawyer last season, if anyone's wondering what the correlation was! XD)

Aaanyway, Ganbatte (good luck) with the Starcrossed stuff! :D

:grin I remember when my boys were that age! I had to lock up EVERYTHING. We fenced off part of the house and tried to corral them into the living room...wild ponies that they were. *giggle*

Um...wait a minute...Baz is only 6 months old! *facepalm* You ain't seen nothing yet! Wait til he can crawl faster than a speeding bullet when you just turn your head for a second. And, when he can actually walk??? Hee hee hee....you are in trouble then! *smirk*

*crosses fingers for Starcrossed* Can't wait to see it!

You turned down Doctor Who????? OMG? Wow, I wouldn't have been able to do that. I love that show....um...not as much as SGA of course...but a close second.

Oh yeah! You watch BSG? *says in a tattletale voice* When Trish(whovian), Wolfie and I went to Megacon in Orlando, we talked to Mark Sheppard and mentioned we love SGA. He looked at us with a smirk and said, "I'm too highbrow to watch Stargate" *indignant look* Now he might have been teasing us...um...I hope so, but still a snarky thing to say...lol.

Just wait until Shore Leave...he will be there...mwahahaha. So what kind of prank can we pull on him and his "highbrow" ways. LOL

He also says to call Jewel..."Jewels Taite" as she hates this...lol...nice friend he is! I'm thinking he is a shameful tease like you!!! :grin

You're starting to spoil us, David. Your adventures in the Antarctic might just have to wait if we keep hearing from you! (Have you read that topic, by the way? Very funny.)

As for BSG? I suspect they're going to keep us wildly careening towards the finale with every episode. These first two tell me they're sharp and focused. And that makes for great TV.

Do you think you need an altar like Baltar got? (Hmm. Altar. Baltar. Coincidence?)

Bummer about Dr. Who. Maybe you could pitch reviewing the season finale for them?

Keep us updated on Starcrossed. We stand ready and waiting to spring into action to get people interested. (You have seen the scariness that is us.)

Go. Enjoy your action figures. I think you need a whole army of them! (Although that is a bit more Star Wars than Stargate. But still. Tons of YOU!) :grin

How long before your action figure is buried in the sandbox? Not long between Baz and Mars I'm thinking that there will be at least one or two action-figure related accidents!

BTW, the new figures are much better than the old Feed-Me-Another-Hamburger-McKay pewter figure. Whoever actually sat there and sculpted little teeny thigh holsters on the figures is my new hero.

Lol, your new best friend :P Look out for the Sheppard figure, he has a lemon!

Shame you couldn't do the Doctor Who review - the season is shaping up quite nicely so far :)

And we'll just have to make sure some of those japes make it into the DVD extras!(maybe someone could edit it into a comedy...)
HORRAY! Another blog!

David,

You are quite the busy man! I would love to be a fly on the wall of the SGA set. And isn't it already a full-out comedy? :grin OK! I'm just kidding! But I love the mix of drama, action, comedy, and romance! It works for the show. Don't change a thing.
Cool!
