Beware the Penguins
Beware the Penguins
A Blog? Oh, yeah! I think I used to have one of those!

I'd love to blame my son "Blog Killer Baz", but he's got that little smile and giggle and I've a hunch he's going to grow up to be a larger and more threatening adult than I will ever be. Alas, the blame falls squarely on my stooped shoulders...I've just been miserably remiss I'm afraid.

But enough of the excuses...how the hell are ya!?

I'm back shooting season five of Stargate Atlantis, actually at lunch on day one of "The seed", to be precise. I'm blasting the soundtrack for "Once" and typing like a fool from Hewlett HQ...my new trailer! (Fathers need more bigger trailers don't you know) So far Atlantis 5 is looking like a winner. The first script back had me giggling with joy at the mess McKay finds himself in - then actually having to shoot the thing turned me back into the usual old season four grump! Shooting TV is just a messy process when you're saving the universe. Still, as miserable as the environment can be to shoot in, the cast is in alarmingly high spirits and actually seem to like all being back in the same studio (I'll fix that!) It's a nail-biting start to what I'm hoping is a killer year.

Missed the annual SciFi dinner on Friday as I had Dad and my Step-Mum visiting. They're here to enjoy the schizophrenic Washington state weather here in Malibu North. That and to revel in quality time spent with their favourite (and only) son...they claim they're just here to "see Baz", but I see right through them.

We've got another conference call about "Starcrossed" this week, which I'm very much looking forward to. These guys are really behind us on this thing and I"m hoping that between them and you wonder-squirrels we're going to have some fun! I'm still hammering away at "Design of the Dead" and working on treatments for A Dog's Breakfast 2 - "Heir of the Dog" as well as a neat little feature tentatively titled "Wrecks".

Speaking of "Breakfast", I've got some release dates for "A Dog's Breakfast" DVD's around the world. Unfortunately no info on the U.K., Germany, Italy, and Spain for some strange and inexplicable MGM reason...here's what I DO know:

  • France: 5/21/08
  • Finland: 5/21/08
  • Denmark: 4/16/08
  • Norway: 4/16/08
  • Sweden: 5/14/08
  • Australia: 6/4/08
  • Singapore: 5/1/08
Yay! So Mars will be getting out and about a bit more than last year. Poor mutt! It's amazing how fast you can tumble down the food chain when your parents start breeding. He clicks and clatters his way around the house on his un-manicured nails, wagging his ridiculous tail frantically (the one that just about knocks his back feet out from under him every time) with that "Remember me?" look on his hairy little mustachioed face...he's amazing with the kid though, and I think he's going to get far more attention than he'd like as soon as Baz gets those legs working on the ground. I've been promising him a good looking bitch of a co-star for "Heir of the Dog"...but then I'm also threatening him with puppies ;-)

I've just been sent a quote from Mallozzi's blog (doesn't he have a job or something?!) and discovered that he doesn't like us asking for collated scripts... especially the white ones! So I've decided to wait for Baz to fill his diaper, become ravenously hungry, crazily tired and cranky and then drop him off in the writers room while I collate the latest "double-off-salmon" color revisions that we've received for the stack of Atlantis scripts in my trailer (did I mention it was a bigger and more impressive trailer than last year...I hear that a rapper that I've never heard of used it before me...on a big movie...I am SO hip and with it!) That'll teach him;-)

Baz the wonderkind is sleeping 8 to 12 hours a night so we've been joyfully plowing through the Netflix queue and the pile of SAG screener DVD's we've received. "Once" was obviously a fave (...sings along with "If you want me"), as was "3:10 to Yuma". Russell Crowe is just plain old old-school cool. "Paris Je T'aime" which my little friend Vincenzo did a piece in...the one film he DOESN'T put me in shoots in Paris with beautiful French vampires! - that little...?! Definitely a film worth having a look at as it has something for everyone with a little romance in them. I think I may even buy a copy...and I'm the cheapest man alive! "No Country for Old Men" was beautiful, as was "There will be Blood", Daniel Day Lewis blew me away with what I felt should have been an over-the-top performance but which he somehow managed to make work. The soundtrack on the other hand killed it for me. "Juno" was cute and very well done (I didn't love the soundtrack again though?!) I'm dying to see "The diving bell and the butterfly" ...it's just sitting there waiting for me! "The Thin Man goes Home" was another brilliant old classic in the "Thin Man" series from way back when (actually when it was cool to be drunk all the time apparently!)

until later...

D!

So babby is sleeping 8 to 12 hours? Oh boy I so hate to tell you its all down hill once they are on their feet. *chuckles* but don't despair it won't be long until he reaches 18...mine did last week ...Hawaii here me and hubby come! Sea, sand and the thing that comes after five.... Well you sure as heck didn't think I was doing that again until I knew it was safe ;)
Happy parenting..happy filming and if you ever fancy a shot in a psych hospital we can swap jobs :grin

How very cool that David comes on and gives us a personal letter! thanks, Sir!

What a personality. No surprises that you're a star.

By the way, I don't have cable, and I just bought Season 3, and I'm devouring it. Loved the episodes "McKay and Mrs. Miller." You and Kate must've had SO MUCH FUN doing that as real sibilings acting as siblings. I also adored how McKay is coming to "see the light" in the "Tao of Rodney,"

Ah yes, I'm babbling on . . .

David, you're great. You're an outstanding actor. I am delighted to see such a happy personality behind Rodney. :grin

Best wishes to you and your family. Baz is a cutie pie! His expression says that he's growing up in a really fun family.

That's all . . I'll exude more praises ater.

I'm a bad squirrel. I just kind of got used to the void, and stopped checking for new blog posts. :p I hope you'll post a report on "Starcrossed". That is one tv series I want to see! Stay well!

Cheers!

David,

So wonderful to hear about season 5 excitement not to mention other projects.

As one with many, many four-legged furries of the canine kind, Mars will ejoy the girl, not so the puppies and the lovely mum will not change diapers or pick up "filled" newsprint. Be warned ;) And yet, for some odd reason, one of my gals ( bitch in the purest sense of the word) is expecting again and I'm putting myself through it... And do like I did... I have dogs with docked tails: all the action, none of the whacking :)

Thank you for all the good work you do, making lives of others more enjoyable with someting great to watch.

Good to hear you and family are all well. Baz will soon be walking and then you will have trouble. LOL
It is amazing watching their first steps. I remember watching and counting my boys steps before they would fall down.
I had one boy start walking at 10 1/2 months the other started walking at 12 1/2.

Children are wonderful such a blessing.
You have such a adorable son. I would love to see recent pics of Baz.

Hi, I'm new here, so thought I should introduce myself. Became hooked on SGA this summer wilst recovering from a fractured foot bone. Watched several episodes per day which was soo intense. I love Rodney, sarcastic, clever, funny, cute, kindhearted, just the right amount flawed.

Must see DBA when it comes out here, maybe will find somewhere I can download it?
Trailer is so funny.

Loved the blog. Penguin is great - beware though. Once you start collecting lifelike stuffed animals, it never stops. Our latest aquisition was a realistic iguana. My son wants a real one, but we have no room.
Hey Hey!

Oooooh I must have stopped getting twitter updates. Still here also..and checking in a little less frequently it has to be said.
We've missed you :) good to hear you've been keeping yourself busy with real life :grin
That's a shame about the UK release. Film politics sounds like a real bore.

Hugs and kisses to Baz I'm guessing he got bigger by now.

and LOL always the penguin batting ;)
Get ready for that wonderful 8 - 10 hour
Written by julie on 2008-03-10 17:28:59
First let me say that my husband and I really enjoy your work. Atlantis is the highlight of the week. And sometimes I even get to see it in its entirety the first time its broadcast. We have a 10 month old son, and as you know, they dictate when you will be allowed the great privilege of watching or doing something to its completion. Anyhow, our little man slept really well at 5 months, then came the teeth and some major league growth spurts. All I can say is sleep now. And get ready to hide the remote controls. Boys seem to be drawn to anything electronic. Hope you and Jane are enjoying parenthood (at our late age also) as much as we are. Good luck with season 5 and all your upcoming projects. :zzz

Another Sunday in the South
Written by micronics on 2008-03-09 23:25:31
Hey David,

Hope you had a great weekend. The wife and I spent the day looking over art at a great plantation out on the River Road (Mississippi River). It is actually one of the cool plantations along the river just befor New Orleans called "Oak Alley." You have probably seen it on a number of occasions on TV. It is the one plantation that has the beautiful Oak Trees that line the entire driveway from the road all the way to the Main House.

Anyway, they had a huge arts and craft showing today and it was fun to be part of it. The temp. was 70 degress (This is to die for weather in South Louisiana seeing that it is usually hot!! and Humid!! Uggghh)

Anyway we drank Mint Juleps and looked at all the very expensive artwork.

You're going to laugh at this but when my wife and I sat down in the food court area they had a TV going and guess what was on the tube? Yep you got it "Stargate Atlantis" I told the waitress that an extra tip was in order for their first class choice in television pragramming.

Well the time change has us all jacked up so we are going to crash! Thanks for all that you do and keep up the great work

HI!! This is my first time responding (or reading) your blogs (I didn't know you had one! Go figure. lol). But Don't you just love our western Washington Weather?? lol I don't know where your at here, but it's been a bit, dreary down in the south sound. Hopefully you've got a bit better weather!!! :)

I love your sons nickname by the way! Baz is so cute! ^_^ The baby and the name lol And I LOVED Mars in A Dog's Breakfeast I think he deserves a bitch co-star ;)

Oh yeah.....you and Paul McGillion, and everyone else on the cast, where good as well. ;) lol JK, I loved the movie! It's pretty funny and will buy the DVD (saw it on iTunes (bought of course, no stealing, I want to support your movie afterall)) as soon as I have the $$$$. Want to add it to my very modest collection of movies lol

Now I need to go back and read some of your other blogs! ^_^ Thanks for writing to your fans! It's amazing when an actor will take the time out of his busy schedule just to write to his fans. It really shows what kind of person you are :)

Thanks a ton for that!!

P.S. What's with the penguin? Careful, I can tell it's blood thirsty ;)
Time Dialation
Written by micronics on 2008-03-09 00:24:03
You know the whole time thing really freaks me out! I can't help but wonder if the Rodney of the original time had to still finish out his life in that time line even though Sheppard made it back. I mean he still had to spend 25 years developing a theory to get sheppard back and who's to know if it really works in his time line. Freaky!!!

Great show and what a bummer it will be for all of us fans to have to wait and see what happens next. O'well I guess we will have to bide our time with the multitude of tivo episodes that we have recorded until we find out what is next.

It's good to see that they are developing your character to fit your abilities. It was good to see your sister again as well.

Have a great Easter with your family and I hope it warms up there soon. 70 degrees projected for tomorrow here!!

Peace to You.
Great Season! Too bad its over for this season.

OK D

It's Saturday night. We spent the day re-wiring the living room for sound and bringing in some new surround sound speakers. I hate running wire under the house. Too many cats live under there if you know what I mean. Anyway it is now 11pm and I have PBJ Sandwiches in front of the fireplace with the new sound all tied together for the showing of Fridays last Atlantis Show. Sorry I had to Tivo it this week.

Wife is sleeping, I'm enjoying PBJ and am set for the next hour of Atlantis.

Thank God it's Friday!

Thought it would never get here. You must have sent some of your Canadian Cold down here because it's raining and nasty. The weekend should be shaping up for sunshine and 65 Degrees. We are all getting ready for the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Jack Johnson just to name a few. Check out the line up at www.nojazzfest.com This is a great event to attend if you guys ever want to enjoy great food and music.

Have a great weekend. Pet the dog so he does not get jealous! Hope you escaped the Hazmat Suit?

Oh Yeah By the Way... Who gets to clean up all the brass and links from your fire fights on the show. I remember in the military that firing weapons was a gas but it made a terrible mess with all the spent rounds. I saw an episode of Atlantis a couple of weeks ago and everyone was standing in a mess of spent rounds. Way to go with the realism! most shows don't show that stuff.

Have a great weekend

Hey everyone ... esp. David ;)

Was surfing the inter-web and came across this site for my beloved David Hewlett ... My Holy Grail ... How many people get to send messages directly to their favourite actor???

Just want to tell you to keep up the good work! You're the only reason I've stuck with SG1 and SGA ... Well that and the humourous dialog ... but you're definitely number 1.

Can't wait to hear more stories about you and SGA.

Hey "D"

That was so cool to get the first twitter message from you today. It is such a great medium to tie your fans to you and the work that you are doing. It really goes to close the distance that most of us feel between you and us your fans.

I know that for most of us the opportunity of actually getting to meet and interact with you is impossible because of geographic location, so this website and the twitter account is a great means for all of us to feel like we are a little part of whats going on with you and the rest of the Atlantis Team.

All of us down here in South Louisiana would love to have all of you down one year for one of your festivals. I would advise skipping Hurricane Season though!! (June - September)!!!!!!

Anyway, Thanks for all that you do and all of my best to you and your family. We really enjoy you coming into our home each week and thank you for your dedication and HUMOR.

All Our Best to You!

Sean.

PS. My twitter account name is "micronics" if you would ever like to chat. Don't ask me about the name it was just something that popped in my head when pressured for a user name...

PSS. Hey have you ever enjoyed a table full of hot boiled Crawfish? I would be happy to send you some for your next backyard party. Yum Yum!!!

i may (yes may) have forgotten to come back to say something once i was over being sick. Letting people have the flu...not something a civilized world should still have around anymore!

I find it amazing you say that you sleep...from the vantage point of the blog world, twitter, and you-tube on occasion...one might get the impression you were a robot bent on creating wonderful work 'round the clock! 27/7/365.

Keep up the great work on SGA, don't forget to write Katie in on an episode or two next season...i have several ideas (well, 2 actually) for a great way to bring her back if you ever need an idea (which it is obvious you don't need any help in the writing area - you are Dgeek...creator of ADB!). ;-)

Just a question
Written by Testycatlady on 2008-03-06 15:38:13
Oooops... Forgot to ask this earlier.....
Just a question.... How come Stargate Atlantis is mainly filmed in nice pastoral WARM settings? You would think that some of the episodes would take place during the winter season on some of these many planets! Is there a chance of the Stargate Atlantis crew getting stuck in some winter wonderland for a change? (They could go ice fishing :p ) Ontario Canada has some beautiful scenery in the winter. Just a thought.
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!!!
Written by Testycatlady on 2008-03-06 15:35:36
I am thrilled to hear that a 6th season is being talked about. I love Stargate Atlantis. I even like it better than SG1. Is there any chance that the writers for the Stargate series could STOP killing off all the nice doctors? Next thing you know, they will be trying to kill off the Dr. McKay character, and that would be sooooo uncool!
:p

Dinner at Fuel on April 3rd
Written by Ishshah on 2008-03-05 21:49:04
Hey David,

Since you will not going to be at this years Creation Convention in Vancouver, do you think you might join a bunch of us fans at Fuel for dinner on April 3rd at 700 pm? Joe Mallozzi and Marty Gero will be there and it would be soooooo cool if you'd grace us with your presents? What do you think? Do able? If so, one of our dinner mates cancelled and there room for you and a guest if Jane is available too!

Thanks for listening!

I'm shocked by how much you manage to get done. It makes my sweet little library job seem positively stress-free in comparison!

HA! I finally joined the cool kids and invested in Netflix. I'm slowly filling up my queue and asked for recommendations. Someone I know just recommended a whole slew of your films. I would have eventually watched them, but I was amused by the (kinda intimidating) list. I think you have a superfan, David!

Two more days until the SGA season finale! Sigh. Last week's episode nearly made me cry, what with all the McKay emoting.

Congrats on the cuddly (sleeping) baby, the new trailer, a fifth season, giant penguins to terrorize (or be terrorized by), many projects, and um...yeah. I guess that's all? Congrats on everything!

Hey there!!

Glad to see ya back! I understand how crazy life can get. I am half way through my second semester back to school (after being gone almost 13 yrs). Spring break is next week but it won't feel like "spring" up here in NW Indiana. It has been a weird winter. Snow, then it melts, more snow, melt, major amounts of snow, etc. Ugh!! My kids are going stir crazy. Loving season 4 of SGA!!! Your character is grown so much. I am looking forward to Woolsey next season and his growing pains. My oldest daughter and I are going to our first Stargate convention this summer in Chicago!!! It is part of her 16th birthday present!!! I wish you were going to be there. We still have to see what days that everyone is going to be there and arrange for photo ops. I think David Nykl is supposed to be there on Saturday. We definetly want to meet him!! :) We are making homemade shirts with "Stargate-isms" on them and one extra...a squirrel with a quote. Marianne, my daughter's will say "Dance monkey dance" and mine will say "Have you seen "A Dog's Breakfast"?". It should be fun. Well, I need to get rolling. Still have homework to do this week. Say "hi" to your family. Soak in that time with Baz. They get big so fast (mine are 9, 12, and 15). Keep the posts and favourite lines coming. Enjoy the rest of your week and your weekend!!!!

Wow, you've been busy. Great to hear about all the projects you're working on and looking forward to hearing more as they progress.

Nice to see some non-USans will get the chance to see ADB, too. It's about time.

Oh, yes, and I know a lot of us are wondering: whose idea was the ADB reference in Kindred II?
hi Hi hi Hi!
Written by cutter72 on 2008-03-05 04:30:00
Glad to see you finally getting around to blogging. Trust me, i do feel your pain, though, I have a 14 month old little girl who is walking and getting into everything! Just you wait, Baz will be the little monster trying to go "splash splash" in the potty! Oh, and thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOO much for agreeing to come to SHore leave 30 in Hunt Valley, MD. I am a local there and my 7 year old son is dying to meet you. Since you and he share your birthday together, he seems to think he is justified by acting McKay like around the house. Scary for me, eh? Well, anyway, back to work for me, glad you had some time for us all!
Written by Mirth on 2008-03-05 03:46:45
Third man Series?? Theres a series? What else aren't you telling me? I never knew that. Have to add it to my to do list.

People are always talking about the dangers of penguins but I still find it hard to believe. Suspect Polar Bear Propaganda!

Pleased that Baz is sleeping through the night now but I suspect not as pleased as you n Jayne.

So pleased you've started Season 5. Season 4 finishes in the UK next Tuesday and now have to sit through weeks and weeks of GrandPrix for hubby. Believe me when I say I cannot wait for S5 to air!!! If you get air dates for the UK can you make a mental note to let us know when the time comes? Many thanks.

Looking forward to you next film. Thank you for taking the time to say hi.
Ref Joe Malozzi scripts. You should take him out and show him your trailer - once he sees that he'll know who he's messing with...if it doesn't make him jealous.

Can't wait to see what McKay gets upto next season.

Written by dma69 on 2008-03-05 00:38:00
Shows how far behind I am; I didn't know you were preggers; so to speak. I had just got used to Rachel having her baby. Is there something in the Pegasus Galaxy that makes you more fertile??? Congrats on Baby Baz! And here's hoping we get a season 6, after 5 is done. I think I'll go crazy when the take all the U]NEW[/U]Stargate stuff off the air; I love you guys. I've been watching Stargate for so long, I don't remember what it was like without it. Hope you have a great season. :)

I'm glad to see that you have some down time on the set to type -- it is hard to keep up online stuff with a baby at home. Have you mastered typing with one hand yet? Enjoy this time, though -- it takes no time at all to get from the "I wish I could set him down so I could get up and do something" stage to the "I wish he would sleep in my arms again so I could sit down" stage.

I hope I can come to Shore Leave to see you and Kate -- unless you're coming to Dragon*Con! (Any hope . . . any at all . . .pretty please?)

Great news on the A Dogs Breakfast front, but no UK yet! How rude of them! Either way already got the US copy so will wait like a patient squirrel for the UK copy to be released, then I can spread the ADB word to other friends who don't have a multiregion LOL. My only motivation of course!

I am looking forward to seeing you and Kate at ShoreLeave in July. It is great con and I am sure that you while have a blast. It is one of those cons I go to no matter who the guests are. The fact that you and Kate will be there just means I will go and see at least some of the guests speak.

YEE HAW The prodigal King of the Squirrels has returned. We missed you. Heck I missed you so much that I have been keeping a vigil over here on your Blog for days. PEEHEW man I need a shower. I'm a tad....ummmmm on the ripe side. LOL HA HA.

Hey take some pics of the new trailer. Is yours better than Joe's? Better than Jason's? Better than Rachel's? After all you are the popular character of the show. My opinion at least.. Joe, Jason, and Rachel aren't bad characters. But Rodney is hotter.

Ohhhhhh I am soooooooo looking forward to Starcrossed, Design Of The Dead", ADB #2, Splice, Helen. And of course Season 5. The suspense is driving me nuts. Can't wait.

How is Jane doing?

Yay! You're back! And ADB is coming to Europe! Even if it won't reach my little country, I'm sure I'll get my hands on one, and as long as it's a version my dvd-player understands I'll be happy.

Good luck and fun with everything you're doing and planning.

:grin I'm happy to know I'm a wonder-squirrel. So all my Cafe Press shopping (with proceeds going to DWB, of course!) is good stuff, right?

I'm seriously thinking of having Princess Erin do something for you for "Design of the Dead". All she talks about lately is Rodney. She refuses to believe it's NOT Rodney in ADB. She says Patrick is Sponge Bob's best friend. :sigh She's six. Cut her some slack.

And I'm sure Mars is patient and a great big-brother! Yes, Baz will give him SOOO MUCH attention Mars will never be lonely (or clean) again!

I've already seen ADB (bought from the USA). It's such a funny film. I'd love to see a second part.

Poor Mars :roll

My God, I can't believe ADB is finally going out in France !!! I was close to giving up hope, and now...May, where is May ? Isn't it may already ?? THANK YOU SO MUCH !! I think you can't even imagine how many french fans you have. You have made more than one happy, lemme tell you !

As far as movies are concerned... For me "Paris Je T'aime" was a blast (even if I saw it in 2006 when it was released in theaters, I still remember dragging my mom there and having the silliest smile ever on my face after the Vincenzo Natali's part). "The diving bell and the butterfly" is really a beautiful movie, very moving. Though I won't advise it if you're a little depressed, when I saw it last summer every single person was crying in the theatre at the end. That "life is soooo hard" feeling being stressed by the fact that it was a true story (and that the movie was shoot 90 kilometres from where I live)

Thank you for keep on posting, we really love to hear from you

You sound ridiculously busy, as ever, which is great. Especially for the fans :p. Good to hear that the family is well, and Baz is approaching mobility :D

I think we had pretty much decided that as long as you let us keep playing on your forums, we would try to soldier on without you. But we still missed you!

Congrats on having such a great sleep stretch with Baz. That's fantastic! But he is way more important than little ol' us. Just throw us a Twitter everyone once in a while to let us know you're all doing okay.

Glad you n Family are doing great dude!! VERY excited about your next projects. And no need to apologize... should I mention that #1 night n day job known as "Dada" just gets more intense as time goes on? However I hope you're getting some time-compressing tips from other experienced Da's such as Mr. Flanigan- just don't ASK for advice because, out of the goodness of their klanky-pranky hearts, they will mislead ;)

On an aside, does Australia include New Zealand...?

Congratulations on the bigger trailer (since this is obviously a Big Deal). And a rapper huh? Does this mean more mad YouTube vids?

You are quite right to beware the penguins. I've heard tell of being on the march, no doubt amassing their forces for an attack by sea, utilizing some sort of happy, feet-based attack. Penguin military tactics are certainly difficult to understand...just another one of the many differences between our cultures that's led to such hostility between our respective peoples...

Like those before me, I must express regret over your disapproval of the "Juno" soundtrack, but then again I can understand, as it's certainly geared towards a younger audience and might not be as appealing to you as to those in my own age group. Kudos to you for supporting "Once" though.

I have FINALLY gotten "A Dog's Breakfast" on DVD and I have to applaud you and your whole team for brilliant work. My neighbors were most disturbed by my raucous and near constant laughter. And I couldn't be more excited to hear about your upcoming projects as well.

Hasta la next time,

And it sounds like you're still pretty busy! SGA, Starcrossed, Design of the Dead and an ADB sequel?! Don't overwork yourself - but keep us updated on their progress. :grin

Hmmmm, still no news of a UK release (not to mention Germany, Italy, Spain...). Come on MGM, we wanna see the puppy too!

Still - new trailer!! Woot!! :grin

Off to check out some of those films you mentioned...
So glad you're back!

Boy have we missed you! But it's good to know you're still as hyperactive as ever ;.)and the Baz boy is growing up so well. Sleeping 8 to 12 hours? That is so cool for a baby. Though I suppose he's just biding his time, collecting energy for the time he can walk and then you'll have your hands full of running around after him.

Don't watch your show anymore, but I'm glad to know you still get paid regularily. So keep up the good work!

And a big YES! on the Natali section of "Paris je t'aime" - that was a marvelous little piece of moviemaking!

You take care and be happy

Hello, David! Thanks for the update on what's happening Hewlett-wise. Such a busy man! Don't your fingers get tired with all the typing? How do you manage to keep the stories for all your projects straight in your head AND learn your lines, too? And you've managed to squeeze in movie watching with Jane, as well as Daddy duties, too!

Looks like "Starcrossed" will be the next project for the squirrels. Just let us know the details and we'll be off and running.

Nice interview in the latest SciFi Magazine. So Baz is learning the joys of ABBA? What else are you singing when you dance with Baz? 8^D

And the trailer "The Last Man", hmm, in that one scene, I'd say you are A Lucky Man.

Take care!
Welcome back!

Hello David!

Boy, I missed your updates! But of course you've been busy, I guess everyone guessed that because with an everday life like yours (shooting SGA, preparing your own projects and managing the family life with a small baby) I'd long have gone crazy even withough any 'internet duties'! :grin

Glad to see that you're ok, have fun on the set (and in that bigger trailer), are still creative and that the family's alright and doing well (apart from Mars - poor little fellow! Can I adopt the neglected son? ;) *g*).

So MGM didn't forget about the rest of the world - but about Germany (and other countries in Europe). :sigh I'm as confused about this as you are and hope they'll announce a release date for us ADB freaks here in this country, too. :cry

Anyway, thanks for the update, stay as happy and geeky and funny as you are, and all the best to you and the family! :)

Once was seriously brilliant and I think a movie that was sorely overlooked, so way to be on the liking it front. :) I think someday I will have to resee 3:10 to Yuma as the Fiance and I went to see it as a double header with The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford and while I remember liking it while I saw it as SOON as I saw Assassination I instantly lost all memory of it because SERIOUSLY. One of the most brilliant films I have seen in a ridiculously long time.

I just saw Paris Je T'aime though and (granted I am totally biased due to my literally life long crush on Elijah Wood) the vampire one was by far the best shot. So. very. pretty. :)

LOL I saw that Penguin and the first thing that swam thru my demented little head was "Shoobie doobie doo" for those that don't know that was an old bud lite commercial for Beware of the Penguins. Wow! Apparently it was cool t obe drunk back in ole BC Season 4 is just awesome David can't wiat for season 5 and not to worry about not being on here as much. Those of us married with children, with children and single and those who just know of the latter two know how time consuming it is to have a family and a busy job. Hmmm so thats where those grey hairs and wrinkles are coming from and here I thought it was because of just rapid aging.. who knew!!

Can't wait for Season 5 from what I have read on JM's site it's sounds awesome. Can't believe season 4 is one episode from the end. Where has this year gone and could someone please turn off the time warp!!

Congrats on the ADB foreign releases and on things with Starcrossed going so well! Look forward to hearing more on the ADB sequel, DotD, and "Wreck". (Is that the key to your success, do you think? Choosing titles that describe unfortunate circumstances? "A Dog's Breakfast", "Starcrossed", "Wreck" ...)

OH! That reminds me -- Mallozzi won't answer us, and we want to know if Paul's line in "The Kindred, Part 2" was ad-libbed or if McCullough wrote it in?

I'm sure Mars would make a great daddy -- patient, willing to let his kids climb all over him and chew his on his ears .... I'm glad to hear he and Baz get along! :)

Did you see Sweeney Todd?

When I first saw that photo I thought, "There must be some sort of Linux Invasion going on...". It's good to finally hear from you again - you've obviously been very busy with both work and family life. I'm looking forward to hearing more about some of these projects you've got in the pipeline, especially "Starcrossed".

I understand Jewel is going to be one of the guests at this year's Dragon*Con in Atlanta - I guess it would be too much to hope that you and the rest of the "Crew" could make it down that way for a bit? This will be my first year attending D*C, and I'm cosplaying (ie costuming) for the first time ever as Doctor Who (specifically, the Ninth Doctor as portrayed by Christopher Eccleston). Though now that I think about it, since Nine wore a leather jacket similar to what the Atlantis team wears, I could go as a member of Team Atlantis. I'll have to think on that one...

At any rate, good to see you back writing again. Give our love to the family, and thanks for keeping your fans updated!

Missed your blogs, and twitter updates. Welcome back, and good for you that you got a bigger trailer. Parents always need more space. (That's more play room for us when playin with the little ones.)

Can't wait for more Gate though.

David, please oh, please, or pretty please follow me on twitter. I'm deltatwo. Sometimes you have funny things to say that make my day, and I want to let you know that. Give Baz a hug and kiss for us, and have fun shooting series 5 of Atlantis. McKay rocks!!
Love,

wa-hey! And I though you were dead and burried or at least trapped somewhere (although I don't doubt that the writers might just have done that to both teh hewlett and the mckay :P).

Glad to see you're still alive and kicking and keeping yourself busy! Send more [blogs] please!

Oh and I hear that you may be coming down Aus way! yay! come to Melbourne too!
Glad to hear from you!!

Thank you, David!

Thank you, David, for a lovely blog update, and an interesting photo...

LOVED your performance in "The Kindred, Part 2!" Oh, what a joy to see Paul McGillion as Carson Beckett. The episode finale was a three hankie.

REALLY looking forward to "The Last Man." Both SciFi Channel and MGM Stargate included a certain scene with you and Jewel in their trailers...

Best wishes to you and your lovely family!

Is there any chance that we might be able to rip you away from the Stargate world to come to the Vancouver con in a few weeks. Your fans would love to see you.

Glad to hear all is well on the home front and the work front. Can't wait to see 'Splice' (I'm a doctoral student student in genetics - a friend commented that geneticists are the new nuclear physicists as far as scary scientists go) as well as your other projects.

Mars will certainly love Baz (and come in handy) with the solid food stage - who needs a wet rag when you have a dog? ;)
Baz-Turds???
Written by Kdvb1 on 2008-03-03 23:15:29
Little_McKay...you slay me! Bas*$#ds to Baz-turds...hehehe!

Mallozzi was particularly rude about the request for white paper scripts. I told him he could compromise by making just the borders different colors. I'm sure he'll take that under advisement! ;) NOT!

I'm planning on going to Shore Leave 30 so I'll see you and Kate there! Woohoo...party time! Ok...I will probably fall asleep or turn into a pumpkin by midnight...but it's just so fun to say,"Woohoo, party, party.....Zzzzzzzzzz! :zzz

Wah? Oh...I fell asleep?

Simply said:
greatest. picture. ever.

Glad to have you back.
Hopefully it'll be less than two months the next time you update. We all know you're actually not doing anything but sitting and staring at the computer screen and the blinking cursor with Baz's pants on your head.
How the hell am I???
Written by Kdvb1 on 2008-03-03 23:00:51
:grin Absolutely freakin fantastic! LOL We sure missed you though. We had to keep ourselves entertained....um...and that usually gets us squirrels in a LOT of trouble. hehehe
Glad you are back to filming. We haven't even seen the last episode of season 5 and we are already complaining about going without new SGA shows. We will be having SGA withdrawal so we will need you to blog more often.....pretty please? :grin

Got any Baz or Jane pics? How about Baz and Jane? Or the three of you? You know we love our piccies!

Glad to have you back! I've missed you. All those new projects sound awesome. Don't know how you manage to get anything done with the kidlet in the house. Can't wait for more news from the set (and your big new trailer)! Give Mars a scritch for me.
Written by wordplay on 2008-03-03 22:29:23
Oh, I second the sorrow re. the lack of Juno-music love. That said, "Once" was lovely and my husband's currently coveting tickets to see The Swell Season in Baltimore - he fell hard for both the film and the soundtrack in a way that's unusual for him, as usually I'm the person freaking out over a new record and playing it on a loop for three months.

And if blogging is the only passtime of yours that Baz has put an end to, you're extremely lucky and totally winning at this parenthood gig.

Glad to hear from you again. Current Netflix pile here includes "History Boys", "The Secret Lives of Others", and an Iraq War documentary, the first half of which depressed me so badly I don't think I'll make it through the rest. Clearly it's time to shuffle our queue to get back to more lowbrow tastes. Thank god.
Written by jessie on 2008-03-03 22:23:19
Welcome back. I usually don't post around here, but I wanted to say yay for the family unit being in happy land. By that, of course, I mean Mars. What? Like, dogs don't occupy first rung in my world.

That aside, you know, I want to watch a ton of those movies...but I'm a) poor, and b) really cheap. Seriously, the most I've paid for a season box set is 33, and that for a one shot deal. 20 or less in my book. I'm afraid I'm the reason you're in the poorhouse. Sorry about that.

And weird weather? Hit Atlanta. We've already had tornadoes in February. Month early, that. And we had snow in the beginning part. March is shaping up nice. Don't worry, in about three days, we'll be back to "ack, what?!" weather.

Glad to see you back! Can't let Fu...I mean Mallozzi hog all the blog time, can you?

Written by Becky S. on 2008-03-03 22:09:23
Yay! Some realease dates at least. Fantastic!

As we watched the Oscars, my boyfriend and I made a list of the movies we want to get on DVD when we get the chance. You mentioned several of them. There are a few we'll rent first and then decide what to get. And he has asked that I pass on that yes, it was verl cool to be drunk all the time during the "Thin Man" time.

It's good to see you back and blogging--and, apparently, terrified of penguins. :grin

If you enjoyed the soundtrack from Once, you should check out The Frames, Glen's band. (Man, I feel like amazon.com.)

Poor Mars. It's tough when a new younger model comes into your house. Particular one of those small humans that take up so much of your people's time.

Once Baz starts walking...or at least when Baz starts running after "doggie" - he will most likely long the days with the kid left alone. :grin At least for a little while.

Thanks for the update.

Did you say AUSTRALIA

I had to get friends from the USA to get me copies of A Dog's Breakfast, but now i can get them from Australia. YAY.

And i am SSOO looking forward to you coming to Australia.

I missed you so much i thought you had left. :cry lol

Hi,

I hope you are aware of the complete and utter torture that we, as your fans are going to be going through on Friday night at 10:58pm PST!

I have Enjoyed this season so Much!

I am so surprised at how fast it went!

I know that as a your biggest fan (My brother just compared me to Annie in MISERY!) I have to remind myself to watch everyone else in the scene and not just you!

i just want to say that this season was just (i can't think of an adjective other than "NEAT"! and that makes me think of "Sleepless in Seattle" MFEO made for each other!) supercalifragilisticexbialidocious! (wow a red line under that word?? what a shocker!) okay i think i just proved my dorkiness!

Have a good night! :roll
penguins!
Written by wraithfodder on 2008-03-03 21:42:35
Everytime I see a stuffed penguin I think it belongs on top of the TV set (ala Monty Python) but right now a Dalek has taken roost so the penguins got the boot ;)

Marvelously creative response to the 'salmon pages' of the scripts, hee....

So glad to see you're back blogging as I enjoy the tidbits and the photos and wow, season 5!
Baz-turds
Written by Little_McKay on 2008-03-03 21:37:52
You're being too complicated on your plans to hit back at the writers. Take a few of those Baz filled diapers and leave them in the writers room with a simple note.

"If you act like b**tards; that's exactly what you'll get:[ U]Baz-turds[/U]"

Let us know how it works out ;).
Missed you!
Written by darsynia on 2008-03-03 21:32:17
Yay for an update! We all missed those muchly! Glad to hear things are going well. Baz getting a full night's sleep has got to be a godsend. Now you've got me wondering if Joe M. will volley back a response to your diaper challenge!

Be careful, though--that penguin looks hungry...

Aww, man. The lack of "Juno" soundtrack love breaks my heart a little, D.
Written by shansgrl on 2008-03-03 21:16:52
You busy, busy man. You're so sweet to think of us and update, and with movie recs too! *runs to listen to Once soundtrack* (I really need to find new music!)

Can't wait to see season 5 (yes, I know season 4 isn't over yet). Hope you have fun filming it. (I also hope you get to keep the facial hair. McKay would look dead sexy with it and may get some hot alien babe to kidnap him for a change. LOL)

We've missed you terribly, and glad to know everyone is doing well. Make sure you try and get some rest ok? Give Jane and Baz our love, and give Mars a big ole Milk Bone from us too!

I'm sitting on my couch watching KYLE XY when my phone goes off alerting me to David posting on Twitter (FINALLY - BAD DAVID!) Knowing I can't respond to him on Twitter (again - BAD DAVID) I rush to my computer and giggling furiously and victoriously at seeing no other post I begin to type furiously.

Welcome back! It's great to hear about the new films/projects in the works. I had wondered how Mars was coping with the new baby. I'm glad he's not the jealous sort. Can't wait for season 5, though I don't want season 4 to be over. It goes by too fast!
Busy much?
Written by Little_McKay on 2008-03-03 20:53:20
Any other TV series ideas or films you'd like to get working on? :P

I wouldn't worry about taking so long to blog! With that many projects and a new kid it's hardly surprising lol! You're doing better than I am with my blog and I only have ONE tv pilot to work on!!!

I remember my little brother with our old dalmation, Harry. Little Max would lie on him, pull on him, grab him, and when he was tall enough, try to RIDE him! Harry was fantastic with Max. It's always good when your beloved dog adapts positively to a new "pet" a.k.a. kid.
Hi David!!

@CRAZY4DH HOw'd you beat me?? I was on here first!

Anyway, welcome back to the land of the living David! We are SOO glad to have you back!

Season 5 sounds like it should be really good. Glad you like your new trailer. You deserve a bigger one!

You didn't say how Jane was doing. Hope she's doing good too. We need more pics of BAZ.

Love the penguin! lol!

See ya later Sweetie!

It's WONDERFUL to get an update! We're so glad to hear from you, and pleased that SGA S5 is off to a good start. It's also very exciting to hear about the other projects that are in the works!

And, I just have to agree with you regarding "Once." Absolutely fantastic film and indescribably amazing soundtrack! I was thrilled that "Falling Slowly" won the Oscar for best song!

Sounds like everyone, with the notable exception of Mars, is healthy and happy at home. I hope that everyone continues to be well!
Hey!

I kept saying that once you got back to filming you'd get back to blogging. Now that you away from the evilly hypnotic BAZ.

My gosh! How many things can you juggle at the same time? New daddy, husband-to-be, Season 5, Starcrossed, Design of the Dead, A Dog's Breakfast 2, and Wrecks. Not to mention Helen and Splice.

Does your day actually slow down and become saner during filming?

And now off to Netflix to browse through your list of suggestions.
i love having twitter updates...

Though I have to say that the first thing I thought of when I saw that picture and the caption was that old Bud Ice commercial "doobie doobie doo, Beware of the penguins".

Yes, I am rather strange.
