Family Humbugs
Family Humbugs
Greetings All!

Much wrapping to be done (stupid Santa!) and a biography special on Star Wars that has me completely glued to the TV screen...because it's not enough to just be a nerd... you've got to be a Christmas nerd!

Yes, Happy Humbugs to you all...you all probably know that in true Mckay fashion I can't stand all this Christmas crap. Jane, I've discovered, is SO my opposite in this regard...I'm dating Mrs. Claus! That makes me a self professed Grinch (not Santa)...but thanks to her, my cold little heart is growing...3 sizes! Is it love? Is it Christmas Joy?...no it's cholesterol. I can't say no to Jane's damn mince pies and all that festive Christmas food...she's killing me! ;-)

So I leave you with the only Christmas expert I respect...

"And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more."

Dr. Seuss

Merrry Christmas and all that festive seasonal happy humbugs to you all!

love

D!

PS. A great way to catch the Christmas spirit is to head on over to http://doctorswithoutborders.org and leave them a little something...it's an amazing way to change the world! Jane and Baz and I have just matched the wedding fund ...thanks to Rosiewook and the rest of the DWB squirrel angels!(we're heading up the aisle in June by the way!) Donations to the docs or charities of your choice are a much better way to spend your time and money than sending us things. We really appreciate the thought, but please let's make it count! Baz and I have plenty of toys food and clothes...others don't...give THEM your kind gifts and then drop us an email or a posting in the forum to let us know...there's a much better chance you'll get a response from me to something like that anyway (can you feel the Hewlett spirit of manipulation?!)!

PPS. I'll post a photo as soon as Jane's computer is free (new 160GB ipod churning away as we speak!)

Christmas Charity
Written by SailorNova on 2008-01-15 23:45:45
Hi David! I know you like Doctors Without Borders but how about Project Hope? They have volunteer Doctors and
Nurses that go to other countries to work with the people's there who cannot get the help they need otherwise. Sounds like DWB only difference is they go to these countries onboard US Naval boats! Civilian scientists working with the military! Sound familiar?!
Anyway, I sent 30 Christmas cards to a co-ordinator there
who hopefully gave them to Doctors who were volunteers this past year! They are gonna start a new mission right about now. I did this because my dad is retired navy and
I wanted to do charity work and also...wait for it...
I managed to also gain awareness of our beloved Carson's
plight out there at the same time! (Acting all smug like
a certain Canadian)Thank you, you can stop applauding now!
Here's a copy of the letter that I sent inside every card.
Also, I put campaign stickers on their card, too.
Oops, I seem to have lost my copy of the letter! Darn!
Well, it was very heartfelt...awkward now...
:sigh :?
Greetings

Christmas? Wasn't that last year? Happy
Written by Bookworm on 2008-01-07 09:18:20
Wooah, where did Christmas go? It was all over far too soon! Barely had I got myself into full Humbug mode when it was time to party for the New Year like it's nineteen ninety-nine. Again. Ah well, that's progress. Or Aging. Hmmmm.

So Happy new Year Mr Hewlett and family from sunny England. (I lie, of course, it's cold, wet and miserable over here until around about June 23rd when we get one day of summer before the Autumn starts again).

How's those sleepless nights getting to you? They only get worse as they grow up, trust me. (I say that like it's a bad thing - it's not). Ha!

Was very pleased to learn this week that SGA got picked up for a fifth season. Yay! Now if only they can resolve the writers strike in time . . .

Hiya Grumpy!

Well I say Humbug to your Humbugs!!! LOL
Jane has got it right so stick with her and she will convert you! Go girl!!

Christmas is wonderful. I love it! Its a time to put aside any arguments or resentments and get back in touch with anyone you have forgotten. We all know how commercial its become but if you forget that and be thankful for what counts in life - family, friends, neighbours - its truly a magical time. Despite your humbugs however i see the picture which tells us you do exactly that - so I am not convinced you are the grinch you profess to be! LOL

I hope you had a wonderful first Christmas with Sebastian Flynn - the first is always the most special! and a great start to the New Year! Heres hoping 2008 will be as special for you as 2007!

Hugs to the Hewlett Clan!

Happy Christmas and Merry New Year to you and yours.

I don't care much for commercialism of Santa so I nearly didn't celebrate this year. But because my children warmed my heart. I too grew a few sizes. They smiled so innocently and I could hardly resist.

I don't make New Years resolutions either. They annoy me. As if I need more goals to only break :)

Cheers to you and your family.

Hope your year is all you hoped it would be.

I hope some day to meet your aquaintance.

I enjoy your character on SGA and Hope to see lots more in the future.

gosh I sound really nerdy but oh well that is just me.

talk at you later :)

Hello David. Happy New Year.

I have donated to DWB, gave to the homeless shelter, and I did up a Christmas Box/Hamper to someone less fortunate than me. Oh and I gave to the local food bank.

So am I in the good books?

Let's say a fan (Squirrel) went to a Book Fair in Toronto, purchased a book, the money raised at this book fair was going to a Charity and the said fan (Squirrel) sent you the book to you at Bridge Studios. Would the fan be in trouble? I am not saying anymore without legal counsel for I fear I may incriminate myself further.

Hugs

Hope you don't have too much food stuffed in the fridge. We're stuck with fried ham for breakfast, ham sandwiches for lunch, and then ham with 3-veg for dinner. Ohhh the joys of Christmas! ;)

Since the humbug season has just passed and I missed wishing you a merry humbug... I'll wish you happy new year David.
Wonderful family photo! Baz is growing like a weed... as children do.
Do you read him Dr. Seuss? A good one for bed time, if you haven't already figured it out... is the "Sleep Book".
I'm telling you what, if you want the kid to yawn (You'll yawn more!) Read that book to him. It says yawn about a million times on the first five pages!! Cassella is usually asleep by the time Jo and Mo Redd-zoff start talking their heads off.
Happy New Year to you, Jane, Baz, Mars, and Mr. Loughman!

and a very merry "bah humbug" to you too!

Wonderful family photo...Jane's smile reminds me of Drew (played by Ben Afleck) on Surviving Christmas when he takes the "family" out for a Christmas photo. Everyone else almost seems like they are just along for the ride of the holiday season ;-)

I suppose if you must kill a deer and hang it on your wall...it is festive of you to turn it in to a reindeer for the holidays...i wouldn't be a proper ovo-lacto-vegetarian if i didn't at least notice...although your deer seems to look VERY...fake!? lol

Dr. Seuss...you must read these kinds of stories to Baz, and often. You'd be amazed at how quickly they pick up on the lines of Green Eggs and Ham and follow along reading. That man was a true genius...either that or a brillian brain washer ;-)

Have a wonderful New Year filled with love and time spent with your family!

*peace*

I promise it does grow on you a little when you have children. My tribe of 4 boys loved it. Got us up nice and early, just wait till Baz does that to you and Jane! You guys are adorable. Merry Christmas!

By the way, in regards to Doctors without Borders, I thought I'd let you know about a website called http://www.igive.com - I found it because I was buying an exchange gift for christmas and wanted to buy something that would give at least part of my purchase to charity. I went to Doctors without Borders to see if they had merchandise I can buy, but they don't (only medical textbooks, it seems), and then I found an article by CNN about online charity malls.

igive.com is one of those malls. They have hundreds of online stores that participate. When you sign up you choose a charity (I chose Doctors without Borders), although you can change your charity at anytime afterward. And then as long as you go to the online store through a link from igive.com that store will donate part of your purchase to the charity of your choice. I buy a lot of stuff online anyway, so it's just like an extra bonus that part of it goes to charity.

Some stores gives 1% some give up to 12%.

Just thought you'd be interested.

Hope you have (had) a wonderful holiday and best wishes for the next year to you, Jane and Baz! :)

LOL, you sound like my husband! Though he's been much less Grinchy this year due to our new son injecting some holiday spirit into the household. Of course, all little one wants to do this year is eat the wrapping paper ;)

Christmas is now a mere memory here in New Zealand, due to the quirks of the international date line, but the turkey hangover still lingers...

I hope your family has a beautiful holiday full of love and good food, and a happy and safe New Year. Cute photo!
Happy Hewlett Holidays!

Thanks for the dropping by with the holiday message. We all know you aren't a Grinch, matching our wedding fund donations is NOT a Grinch-y thing to do, thank you so much for that. And what a lovely photo. But where is that antlered penguin from ADB, did it have to be returned to prop storage? At least I see antlers elsewhere in your photo. 8-)

You know, they make holiday bags so you can avoid all that messy tape and foil-backed paper that you always end up cutting an inch too short.

A June wedding? Congratulations on the date.

And, for Doctors Without Borders? Manipulate away!
Merry Christmas

My favorite decoration is my stuffed Grinch in his Santa Suit. Be careful Grinch Hewlett you know what happened to the Grinch at the end of the movie. He got ALL SAPPY with the Christmas Spirit. Ugghhh!

I'm sure all your Humbuggery (a new word!) is just a cover. I bet you secretly love the season and love acting like a grinch. We're onto you, Mister!

Goodness, Baz looks like he's growing fast and he looks as if he's had a very good first Christmas.

Wow! What a gift to the DWB. You matched the Squirrels! Glad to have the wedding date question clarified. We see fiance sometimes and wife at others and thought you two had eloped on us. :)

Tell the producers to let you keep the beard - very manly and sexy. It's just what McKay needs to attract a new girlfriend.

:grin Well since Jeremy is jewish I am certainly more about the Christmas stuff than he is! ;)

Just so ya know, I say that June 27th is THE BEST day for a wedding! It's when we got married. And I think it has worked out well for us.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

p.s. Maybe I can knit something, get a pic of it, and send it off to DWB... Plus get my girls involved in stuff. Now the wheels in my brain are churning. :)
OH...DON'T BE A GRINCH!

Here's Christmas messages to you, Jane and Baz from the squirrels: http://tinyurl.com/ysjpvl

Being Santa is much more fun than being a Grinch! All that our sons(13 & 14 yrs) wanted for Christmas was a Wii, and we told them we couldn't find one anywhere. So they were surprised Christmas morning to find it was a "Wii Christmas"! We bought "Wii" games and controllers and memory cards...etc etc etc. They are still playing as I speak! Maybe I will get a chance to play next week....hmmm....make that in 2 weeks when they go back to school! LOL

Hope your Christmas was wonderful. I'm sure it was with Jane and Baz to share it.

Kimberly :grin
Love and Hugs from the coast

Just dropping in to send much love and many hugs to you, Jane, Baz and Mars from Ocean Shores. I'm glad I'm not the only one geeking out today, but I've been watching the Stargate marathons on Sci-Fi. *grin* I loves my 'Gates!

Thank you for McKay, he's the best thing since Sam Carter. ;)
Mince Pies - Ewww!
Written by Mirth on 2007-12-25 22:07:45
Merry xmas to you and yours. Glad Jane is teaching you the fun side of xmas - the food!

Cant stand mince pies tho so you can have my share - makes me think of Chutney pies, ewww!

Wait till Baz is a little older and then you will learn the next good bit about xmas - cool toys that you cant get coz you're an adult...till now coz now everything is for Baz.

The thing I like most is most everyone is happy and social - just a shame it cant be all year round.

Put away your Grinch outfit and put on the red one. Bar Humbug - shame on you.

Thanks for dropping in to say hi and Merry Xmas to us.

Happy Holidays to everyone. I hope it was good one for you and your family. And that Mars (and Baz as well) gots lots of gifts - and so did Mummy and Daddy.

I don't know about the mince pies - but my mom makes a wonder pecan pie that could send your cholesterol through the roof, but your blood sugar as well.
Merry Christmas too all the Hewletts!

Had a pretty quiet Christmas here. Hope you had a good time this year. Did you have snow? No snow here, was nearly 40 degrees all day.

June huh? *a little tiger goes off to mark her calendar*

Congrats! and Happy Holidays!
And Bah! Humbug to you too!

This year sadly I am a bit of a Grinch/Scrooge as my family has suffered a major loss recently. I am trying to be happy and cheerful but it is very hard. :sigh

I hope you, Jane and Sebastian (and the mutt) have a wonderful Christmas and Boxing Day.

AND you may have just guilted me into donating yet again to DWB! You are an evil man! :x Well I will make a donation in my late sister's name.

Oh a June Wedding? Yay! :grin
Merry Christmas!

Written by Dorian on 2007-12-25 21:04:28
Merry Christmas and beware those oh so addictive mince pies! I swear they have a mesmerizing power that lures you in and makes you eat them...I've already had more than my fare share.
...and thanks for getting me out of my Grinchy shell and giving me a Christmas cause to support. Doctors Without Borders is an amazing organization.

Merry Christmas everyone!
*G* And a very bah humbug to you, too!

Seriously, it was sweet of you to stop by on the holiday! And how awesome are you for matching our wedding donation? ;) *ducks*

I've always wanted to try a mince pie ... You should pull a Joe Mallozzi, and show us a picture of the food!

*HUGS* to you and yours! And a merry first x-mas to Baz!

*Goes off to sing Gods Rest Ye Merry Stargate Folk and other SGA carols with her evil bunny ...*

Is the mince made from roast beast?

Happy Humbugs.

...to you, Jane and Baz (and Kate and the rest of the Hewletts, as well)! :)

Haha, and I thought you guys were already married. Here I was thinking you totally left us out of it :S

Merry Christmas!!!
Written by wordplay on 2007-12-25 20:18:33
Yeah, you really might as well give up the Grinch act, because being Santa is SO much more fun! I got to put out Harry Potter and Star Wars Lego sets last night and my Claus-like partner in crime was in some geek dude heaven of his own. Boys and Legos and speculative fiction, a classic combination.

Got a new pod of my own this morning in my stocking; the newest supplement to our pod stable is a teeny purple shuffle just for running and it is completely full of wonderful. Also, mid-and-uptempo music and NPR podcasts, because Ira Glass is good company on cold mornings.

Merry Christmas! The mince pies sound gorgeous.
