Newbie - Love ADB & SGA!
Written by geekwannabe on 2008-04-03 13:09:26
The other night while waiting for a page to load on my computer, I decided to google "Rodney McKay" for the heck of it. That led to www.adogsbreakfastmovie.com and my discovery of ADB. Over the weekend I was out at Best Buy with my son who is always on the lookout for DVD bargains for his growing collection, so I decided to see if they had A Dogs Breakfast (didn't expect they would). Well, there were two copies in stock! Though we've been on a strict budget, we decided to splurge on ADB, and we have enjoyed every penny of the movie.

I love SGA but have stuck to just watching the show and not checking things out on the internet. Well, ADB led me to checking out David's youtube videos - hilarious! I can easily see how I could get sucked into spending way too much time watching videos there, so I'll have to exercise extreme willpower. OUr family owns two businesses (bookstore and kung fu studio) so there is little time in the day to explore the internet.

However, I did just create my own facebook page and will add a link to the ADB site (thanks to phoenix_81 for that idea!)

BTW, I just discovered my sister really likes SGA! I was completely shocked - she is not a sci-fi fan at all. However, her kids like the show and got her hooked. She told me that they were very unhappy that Paul McGillion was replaced. We were sad too, but since we like Firefly, we enjoy seeing Jewel Staite on the show (her character could be worked on though). I just wish they could have incorporated her in a different way and kept the Dr. Beckett character. I'm glad to see him back and hope they keep him on as a regular. I think they can do it. One of the things I like about Atlantis is that they have a bunch of regulars that aren't seen in every episode. Like Zelenka (love his relationship with Rodney), Major Lorne (where have I seen him before?)
Michael (so different from his Enterprise character) and so many others.

Thanks for a fun movie that parents and their teens can enjoy together!
UK availability?
Written by sunnyannie on 2008-02-25 06:49:32
I just tried to get A Dog's Breakfast from Teco but it doesn't seem to be listed. Has it been released in the UK yet? Is it going to be? Hey - you were born here, we need to see your film!

Congratulations on the little chap. I have three sprogs myself, and all my clothes now have permanant fading to the left shoulder from all the baby sick.
can't wait

I'm getting the movie this weekend from my dad (late Christmas presents. Didn't see him then) and before I watch every single season of Stargate he bought me, I'm watching ADBs. It's at the top of my to-do list! it gets TOP PRIORITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Newbie here! ADB favorite scenes.
Written by millerdobey on 2008-01-08 13:33:48
Newbie here who just downloaded and watched ADB off itunes. Loved it!

Did the spider scenes ring true with anyone or am I alone in my freakdom? One summer a huge garden spider took up residence right outside my sliding glass door. I would not pass through that door unless I knew exactly where that thing was. And yes, I even pulled out my binoculars!

Also enjoyed the cleaning the carpet segment and any scenes with Mars. I have two dogs so I can relate. With my dogs though, instead of saying, "Ooh, is it dead?" I usually say, "It better not be dead!" or "Put it down! Put it down now! Your not bring that squirrel (can also substitute squirrel with: bird, chipmunk, or opusum) into the house!"

Great job, David! Also, congrats on SGA being picked up for season 5.

Have you seen this?
Written by WolfenM on 2007-11-06 15:09:45
http://www.blogrush.com/ It's a blog-promoting tool I discovered via Pink Raygun. Just something I thought you might find useful (I haven't tried it myself, but I don't think it would work with LJ anyway.) Hey, I'm all about promoting the puppy! :)

I even handed out little flyers to people when I was up in Chicagoland, to friends, relatives, peole in video stores. And I got one of my best friends to watch it with me on Hallowe'en! :D She told her brother to watch it -- I hope he listens. (He runs a small recording studio, so I bet the people he works with would be into it, if he recommends it to them ....)

Have you tried getting on Ellen? Would you like us to flood her site with emails requesting she have you on as a guest?
Interviews with Starlog and Whoopi!
Written by watcher652 on 2007-11-01 10:57:52
I love the Starlog interview in the Nov 2007 issue. Half the 4 page article is about A Dog's Breakfast! And where have you been hiding those 2 photos from the ADB shoot? Or have I just missed them? I like where your bare foot ended up in that one photo (teaser for the rest of you to check out the magazine!). And Mars just can't help looking cute, can he?

Also, congrats on interview on Whoopi's radio show. I'm glad you can hear the show for a week at her site because that was really early. I'm just sorry it was so short. Good for you for getting up before 5am to do that!

Until it gets overlaid by next Wed show, you can hear the interview at the beginning of Hour 4 for Wed at Whoopi's site

Hey David. Just wanted to let you know that we've been promoting ADB at Collectormania12 this weekend. Chris, Michael and Jewel were all there, and were kind enough to put a load of flyers that we'd made on their tables. There weren't any left at the end of the day, so that has to be a good thing. We took a pic of us all, minus one. Me being behind the camera, as we were on our mission to hand out the remaining flyers to anyone we saw that had anything to do with Stargate with them. I'm not sure how many flyers we actually handed out, but we had a huge pile at the start of the weekend, and there weren't a lot left when we came home. We're all off to GMex in 3 weeks so we'll be doing the same there, we need to let as many people know how great this movie is, and that everyone should watch it. Anyway hopefully our work has turned a few more people to the cause.

a little late, but...

I'm a couple days behind (damn you computer-not-working-ness!), but congradulations about Season 5!!! Everyone's very excited and are frankly now able to let out that breath we've been holding over here.
Distribution in Norway
Written by Laraneia on 2007-10-26 08:43:02
I have a unique opportunity to get A Dog's Breakfast distributed to the largest (and only) chain of geek stores in Norway.

But how do I go about getting that done from your side? Do we have to contact MGM? Are they already planning on releasing it in Europe?

I really want to do this because I love the film and I think it's a brilliant opportunity to show that films can still be made in this way, and work.

I'm not really expecting an answer but I thought I'd put it out there.

Check out www. outland.no to see the online store for the chain.

Doppleganger: Serve up some crow.
Written by Icarus on 2007-10-21 04:20:13
I was prepared to watch SGA season four and pronounce it either live or dead.

I expected to either loathe Amanda Tapping or consider her... barely... tolerable.

Serve up a plate of crow with a side order of hat fricassee:

I did not expect SGA to become a better show.

- I didn't expect the cinematography to improve. The camera work has gone from being in love with the set to portraying Atlantis as a real place with real people. Wires dangling in people's faces, a view of the back of a tech's head. Cameras following characters at eye level. Atlantis feels bigger now. Plus, that shot where all the entities light is hilarious and inspired.

- I didn't expect to *delves into steaming crow, yum* not only like Sam Carter (though she still gives too many speeches) but to discover she's a source of new story ideas as she brings in the entire SG-1 history. Bringing her on board was a good call. *munches hat, mmmm*

- The writing has moved from horror/adventure to scifi/adventure with intricate plots. Good writing like this makes for re-watchable episodes. This one I can't wait to own on DVD.

Color me surprised, pleased, and impressed. I'd say hats off, but, well, it's on the plate at the moment.

Finally got my DVD
Written by Freya on 2007-10-19 09:36:29
Hello David, I finally got my copy as well. I gotta say it was really good for such a small budget movie. And Kate can really act. Wow. I mean I saw her on Atlantis, but here she really showed her acting chops. Very good.
Due to all the advertising that has been going on and all the previews and photos, most of the funny parts have already been shown. So I found that I wasn't laughing as much as I was expecting to. But Paul's role and demise, I did not see that coming. That was genius. But I think I reacted most to the suspense parts. The music was brilliant and the ending was hilarious.
Special Features, awesome, wish there were more, but then again I wish there were more with every movie.
Congratulations on an awesome first movie. Can't wait for the next one.

once again, thank you for being you. You are a tremendous actor! I rented "Nothing", and finally sat down to watch it today. Very funny. Until the end i was thinking i would allow my 8 year old to watch it (since she loves McKay and ADB). I'm not giving away the ending, just saying that people should for sure give that movie (along with ADB) a renting chance!

I've made my reviews at netflix, imdb, and neilsen. I hope that it helps. BTW, everyone (weather they like it or not) is getting ADB as a gift from me this winter holiday...i just hope i'm able to find that many copies!

If you further need help in spreading the word just say the word, or type it :o)

*peace* Michele
Is it real?

I can't believe a movie made in Canada is so freakin hard to find in Canada. I'm hoping that's because it's selling like hotcakes. If so, I'm a happy squirrel...a squirrel still looking for a copy.

Hi David,

From all the massive stargate fans in the UK, I was just wondering if you could post any details regarding a UK release date for the DVD! I am sure many stargate fans will enjoy the movie. Happy to rate the film on IMDB for you.

Cheers

Rotten Tomatoes

I usually check out http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movies/ when deciding if I want to spend my hard earned money and precious time on something.

Couldn't figure out how to leave a rating for Dogs Breakfast there though.

Great movie - first time my hubby and I have both loved a show since forever.

IMDB views
Written by watcher652 on 2007-10-14 12:36:28
How many times do you reference IMDB? When you do, make sure you also look up "A Dog's Breakfast". I have my link in my Favorites go directly to the movie. That will increase the number of views for the entry. While you're at the ADB entry, click on David's name to increase his view count, too.
Other Ideas
Written by rosiewook on 2007-10-14 10:49:21
A really grass-roots thing to do is to throw an ADB viewing party. It's very easy to do themed snacks (although sorting Fruit Loops into individual colors will take longer than you think). And people love walking out of there with a flyer that says where they can buy the film.

I'm also throwing a copy into the fundraiser for the lab rescue in our area. Some unsuspecting soul will bid on my basket and end up with a great film!
Assignment Completed
Written by rosiewook on 2007-10-14 10:46:28
I've finished my homework. Can I have some ice cream now?

By the way, how are the sales going for ADB? Any feedback from Best Buy, in particular? They really seemed to be doing well there from the feedback in the forums.
More Homework Indeed!

Anything we cna do to help. These are some good ideas. This site is the first place I ever heard of HeyNielsen, I still haven't checked it out though.

And I second the coment about giving away the ending or key points or even fun points - don't spoil it! Some people might not even bother buying it/watching it if the whole movie is right there in a few sentences.

I've actually done several things listed here already. Including blogging about it on my LJ, and telling co-workers also. Many have thanked me, because of course, the movie RULES and is made of awesome.

I am gonna hit the sites I haven't yet.

What next? :p :grin
Written by Becky S. on 2007-10-14 04:35:04
I've noticed that they have combined the website and the movie into just the movie section. Before we were trying to rate them as two seperate things. Hm, maybe if we list the site as dgeek.com instead.....
Blogging and linking and commenting
Written by watcher652 on 2007-10-14 02:32:12
For the Hey Nielsen ratings, they also look at blogs to gauge the "internet buzz". So, if you blog, make sure you mention "David Hewlett" so Nielsen can identify David from all the other Davids out there. And, if you talk about "A Dog's Breakfast" in your blog (and you should do so as often as possible), always link back to this site. Links also count as "internet buzz".

When writing reviews and comments, don't spoil the movie! There are already many reviews out there that do so, but you take away the fun of watching the movie if you give away key points. Let the audience know what you like about the movie without letting them know the ending or any of the fun bits we all enjoyed discovering for the first time.
Facebook
Written by phoenix_81 on 2007-10-14 02:03:58
Another marketing strategy - Facebook - the site that has taken the world by storm.

I have just discovered (yes I'm aware a lot of people probably already know this, I'm usually behind the times with technology! lol! but I thought I'd share anyway).... if you type this website address onto your own wall it will not only make it a link (the obvious part) but you will also be able to select a nifty thumbnail picture of the DVD cover or poster to go with it.

Get your friends to do the same and voila tonnes of people will become aware of the movie and the website!

Or do the same thing but as a note, then it won't relegated to the bottom of the pile, when people write on your wall.
Reporting for duty

I'm on my way to that right now. I've already done the Hey Neilson, but am heading to the other sites to put in my rave reviews :)
Written by sarblythe on 2007-10-14 00:42:13
This made me grin because as I sat watching SGA last night, I was busily typing away on my laptop going to every website I could think of to post ratings, reviews, and recommendations. Apparently, I missed a few and will have to rectify that. I did notice that Barnes & Noble only has one review and there were no reviews on CDUniverse.com. I've submitted for both, but they've haven't been posted yet. Also, BestBuy.com only has 5 reviews, so they could use some more too.

Here's hoping that we're reaching everyone we can and pushing the puppy as much as possible! :grin
