Baz commands his evil robot army!

I confess to mentioning his arrival on twitter last weekend (only because it's easier to post than firing up this thing!) I also may have mentioned it to everyone in the hospital cafeteria, Target's pharmacy the local grocery store and anyone I've seen or may have seen since his birth. But just to make it dGeek-ily official...Sebastian Flynn Loughman Hewlett (that's a middle name NOT a hyphenate so remain calm!) was born by emergency C-section at 9:11 pm on Saturday October the 6th. We cannot thank the nurses and doctors at the St. Joseph's Childbirth Center enough! They were exceptional. What a fantastic bunch of people, with the best bedside manner I've ever experienced. Sebastian was a little less gracious. He got bored of waiting around for the inducement and decided to wrap the cord around his neck and demanded immediate exit. He succeeded. However, now it's my turn to bend him to my own evil ways. I can already see him working out how to create an army of flying robots that he can use to take over the world..all for peace and prosperity for all mankind of course...but then, maybe I'm projecting.

I am officially on hiatus! We shot the exciting conclusion to season four (possibly the last Atlantis season?) and I already miss my fellow actors and crew...okay, maybe just the breakfast sandwiches and lunch, but you know what I'm getting at ;-) So now we wait to find out what if anything we'll be up to next year! I figure worse comes to the worse I could get the cast to sign Baz (with a name like Sebastian, you've got to have abbreviation!) and I'll auction him off on ebay. There's good money in babies I hear ;-)

On the acting front I've shot day one of a small role I'm doing on "Helen" an interesting film about depression by writer/director Sandra Nettelbeck. She did a fantastic movie called "Mostly Martha" that my mother told me about and that I ended up watching and just loved. When I heard she was in town I just had to work with her! Given my ridiculously busy schedule for "Last Man" Sandra (despite a wicked pre-production schedule of her own!) was kind enough to come by and meet with me on the set of Atlantis (actually the wraith hive set to be precise). Transport was in the middle of a location move and kept trying to tow away my trailer, with us in it,so we had to finish off our chat in the parking lot of Norco! It didn't matter as I loved her as soon as I met her! The film stars Ashley Judd and Goran Visnjic (who is actually a Stargate fan and the nicest guy you could meet...coincidence, I think not!) After a great first day and lots of fun stories to tell I returned to the car. Unfortunately somebody had stolen my TomTom GPS from the Echo (I don't think it was Goran or Ashley, but nobody is above suspicion;-) and I had to call Jane to give me directions home from the set! I was so angry as it was a gift from Jane and I loved that thing! When Sebastian gets his evil robot army up and running I'm going to have him stamp out theft first and foremost. I can't wait to see the look on looser-GPS-thief's face when a big metal robot hand plucks my TomTom GPS unit out of his puny little automobile and then tickles him to death!

Talked to Vincenzo Natali the other day and it looks like I'm going to be playing another fun little role in "Splice", which shoots in Toronto (hometown!) in the next few months or so. The film is a fantastically twisted tale about a Bonnie and Clyde style team of geneticists. This from the director of "Cube" and "Cypher" and "Nothing", so it's safe to say it's going to be a head-trip! It's also executive produced by Guillermo del Toro who is off doing the sequel to one of my fave comic book turned films "Hellboy"!

We'll be back in full swing on writing and pitching"Starcrossed" as of next week thanks to SciFi and I'll have to sit down and plow through the rest of "Design of the Dead" as well now, won't I!? That's if I can drag myself away from Sebastian long enough during the few waking hours in which I'm not too tired to think.

Once I figure out this baby raising, writing juggling thing down I'm going to revisit the "A Dog's Breakfast" simulcast. I think I'll aim for a weekend but I'll just have to see what Baz's schedules like and if I ever sleep again!

Sounds like I'm busy!...what am I sitting around typing to all you for!? I've got work to do...and sons to raise!

lots of love and thanks for all the baby related gifts and well-wishing...Sebastian, like his father, thinks that you shouldn't waste your time and money on presents for him, but should rather donate something in his name to "Doctors Without Borders"...that or there's a robot with your name on it buddy!

And I never think babies look like people, because they just look like babies. But Baz definitely has a David grumpy face going on.    I can't think of any songs off the top of my head about a Sebastian... (Well maybe candy ;P) but I collect frogs and I don't have like that. I must try and find one.   Sebastian seems to be off to a good start with the geekdom and the frogs. A child after my own heart.   I can imagine what a beautiful family you four make (including Mars of course, I wonder how's he's doing?) They are really top notch. I spent a couple of days there earlier this year when my dad had a heart attack (and have been to they're emergency room a couple of times as a teenager a couple of years back, I've broken my foot twice) and they really are top notch and some of the best and nicest people around, (especially with me and my mom practically living there the three days my dad was in the hospital)!!!!!

My littlest one pulled the same "I should be fashionably late to the party, and with a pretty nuchal cord to accessorize!" trick, also ending in emergency c - thinking good healing thoughts for Jane! And, of course, congratulations to both of you.     And what confidence you must have in your son to pull off a name like that! We went for the same double-barreled-but-not-really naming option, and I am sorry to say that my name, shoved in there as another middle, has been largely forgotten, although I'm proud that at least both of my kids have learned how to spell it. When you keep your name, you learn to take what you can get.    You are incredibly busy, aren't you? And in cold and flu season, too.
