Kate is over for the weekend (poor woman really needs some friends) and so we cracked open our copy of the A Dog's Breakfast DVD and I've got to say it's a treat! Fox has done a fantastic job with it, right down to the dog bowl image that they used for the actual disk itself. It looks fantastic...but then, I'm probably a bit biased ;-)

Oh No! Written by Rain on 2007-10-14 15:46:33 Well, I couldn't get my hands on a DVD fast enough, so I bought the movie on iTunes! I have to have the DVD though, especially with all these lovely descriptions of the disc and the menu. That will have to be put off for now since all my money has gone to McKay and Sheppard costumes for my sons! I'm beginning to think Mr. Hewlett is an expensive hobby. But so far, much worth it! |
no way! Written by MicheleBlue on 2007-10-04 16:22:27 i pretty much live on iTunes (a girls gotta have her ipod music!) and i never noticed the music on there. Probably because i never actually looked for it, that really does help in these issues It's great to see that the soundtrack and the movie are available on iTunes. As soon as the full ipod is fixed (stupid thing broke in less than a year!) i will purchase the movie for the ipod as well...a dog's life must travel on vacation's with our family as a classic must see while in the car (yes, already a classic here!) |
Loved it! Written by tmac72 on 2007-10-01 01:43:14 I like to think that in my own tiny little world, I helped contribute to ADB becoming available at Blockbuster.com. I sent in a few requests for the movie over the past few months. We loved the movie. Now every time I sweep the spider webs down from my porch, I will think of Patrick. How does Mars manage to always look so completely adorable in every picture that is posted... |
Written by klharris39 on 2007-09-25 21:18:48 I started looking for it here in little ol' Nova Scotia, Canada on Tuesday. No sign of it at Wal*Mart or at Blockbuster. I checked at CDPlus and aster having received the look of "you just made that up to test me" the clerk did check the computer. Indeed, Sept 18th release but the movie comes with a Manufacturer level code...which means CDPlus don't got it neither. I will check, but I don't think iTunes Canada does movie downloads, so I will check with Amazon and add on the shipping costs because I really want this movie. Good news, David, the clerk at CDPlus did know who you were and there was no explanation needed for that part of my quest. Looking forward to Space Channel realising that there is more to Atlantis than Season 1. Keep up the good work! |
Written by meljbuck on 2007-09-25 06:20:49 Here in Britain our copy turned up today! Thank god Amazon ship overseas and yes our DVD player plays international DVDs! The cover is fantastic, great job and the DVD in the shape of a Dogs bowl... priceless!! |
Maybe biased but still it's AHHHH-mazin Written by whovian on 2007-09-24 19:49:35 I married into a family a VERY picky people. And now I have a VERY picky 13 year old daughter. She notices EVERYTHING! She's just like her father. Anyway, she loved the dog bowl DVD (we love our puppies) and thought the menu screen with the separated Frooties was hilarious. And then we showed it to my husband (the prince of picky...the reigning king and queen are still his parents). Not only did HE also notice but he LOVED how it's done. I think he was expecting something hideous. I mean, I've only been talking about this for a year. He LOOOOVED the movie (and so did my picky six year old daughter)! So, you may be biased but at least in this case I can say that the movie is perfect inside and out! |
Written by nanook660 on 2007-09-24 09:54:52 I have now watched ADB 5 times and I laugh at the funny parts everytime. I love this movie. Sadly I too went searching for the DVD in Toronto here. And I too met with people who work in there who had no clue who David was and even that he did a movie. They all thought I had lost my mind. Tough when there's such Canadian Talent out there that nobody is aware of. I actually had to say "David Hewlett Rodney McKay from Startgate Atlantis" Even then they looked at me like I had two heads. Looks like we fans have to educate the world about David Hewlett. Fran |
Love the photo Written by Mirth on 2007-09-24 06:10:07 If you ever do a sequel to ADB this has to be the cover - Fantastic photo. Mars is adorable ! Will she look at Hewlett 2.0 like that?? wondering why you are letting the little person play with all her new toys...you should break the news to her now....and probably reiterate to yourself after the buggy incident. No brainer on series 5. SGA will break all records. Great stories and great self obssessed lines for Mackay. Besides the way your life is going at the moment everything works out (sure you did not sell your soul to the devil last year??) Congratulations on ADB being recieved so well. Decided I cannot wait for doggypaddle accross the pond so I am getting a copy from Amazon sent via UPS cargo hold. M x

A dog's Breakfast in Canada... Not real Written by MarsBolton on 2007-09-23 21:42:11 It is a sad day when we do not support our own talent. The only place that had the movie listed (and was a purely Canadian site) was HMV Canada. The sad part is that none of their stores have it(well the ones I went to here in Toronto), only their online website to order from. However if you do have an HMV near you (and you live in Canada) I can happily infom that they will ordr it for you and you can have it within a week (And they know who David Hewlett is and that he is on Atlantis... well at least my sales guy did *lol*). Also the lovely people at Futureshop had no clue who David Hewlett is or the fact he has a movie out called A Dog's breakfast... I kid you not people... I kid you not. And the people at the Best Buy Canada store thought I was barking mad for recommending they get a Dog's breakfast be brought to the store to be sold... I swear the end of the world is near when Best Buy Canada will have obsecure Anime Series (that no one has ever hear dof) on DVD but not A Dog's breakfest!! UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! |
Yay! Written by Tigereye on 2007-09-23 21:04:20 I got my copy a few days ago (along with SGA season 3) and watched it as soon as I got the package open! Great Movie, and I loved the Special features too! Some pretty funny stuff in there. Had to watch them first. You said that you can rent the movie at blockbuster.com, well you can also get it at our blockbuster. My sister came home from there last night and said she saw it there! Now I'm gonna have to go to itunes and download the soundtrack... |
Written by Scary on 2007-09-23 19:36:19 While I am waiting patiently for my copy to arrive I checked out the 3 major video rental stores. ROGERS VIDEO doesn't have it and won't be carrying it even after I really encouraged them to. I was also at BLOCKBUSTER (HALIFAX) yesterday and they don't have it and the sales guy said they aren't planning on gettin it. The guy at the locally owned VIDEO DIFFERENCE told me I could use the customer suggestion box to encourage them to get it. I even emailed the store owner. Hopefully it will be available somewhere eventually. |
A thought... Written by Aten on 2007-09-23 14:44:27 Is the soundtrack being released on disc, as well? Just thought I'd ask. |
DVD image... Written by Dragongirl on 2007-09-23 13:24:54 I totally adore the image they used for the DVD as well! It was perfect! The film was every bit as great as I expected it would be! Huzzah! |
Written by imaLurker on 2007-09-23 04:18:44 My birthday gift from my Mom this year was SGA season 3, and A Dogs Breakfast! We've watched everything on it, and *loved* it all! Thank you (all involved) for making this movie! |
Glad things are going great! Written by animallover on 2007-09-23 00:50:29 Glad things are going really great on the ADB front! I absolutely love the very adorable piccie of Mars! So cute! You have done wonders with him! Do you know when the ADB release internationally will be! REALLY REALLY WANT TO SEE IT! |
Written by groonk on 2007-09-22 23:10:43 alright. so it lived up to your hype. "A Dog's Breakfast" had my neighbors wondering, 'what could be so damn funny in apt 6? he must be watching that new DVD everyone's talking about. i do wish he'd be more quiet with that laughing.' my neighbors are as meddlesome as any others. currently working my way through the extras and wondering what's next for the All Of Us team? |
not in canada? Written by lemonchicken on 2007-09-22 21:15:34
ITunes Canada doesnt have the soundtrack! Might this be available here in the future if it does well in the states? I listened to the samples... sound so good! |
First the DVD and now we get the music? Written by phynyxoffyre on 2007-09-22 20:18:49 The packaging for ADB is very well done. The dog food dish label is a great surprise to see when you open the DVD case (after checking out the back first, of course!). Great movie! Great packaging! And now here I go to download the soundtrack of iTunes. I love the music! |
Written by vecturist on 2007-09-22 20:13:16 Got my copy Thurs. after class in AZ (and definitely needed the laugh after this week). Great stuff! Do have to ask, what was Paul's reaction for a couple of the scenes - and hopefully he's heard how well this puppy is doing as well. As far as Kate visiting - well my siblings and I couldn't stand each other growing up - but now that we're all adults we're constantly visiting each other, so it's not just you guys! |
Mars My Little Pony Auction Written by WolfenM on 2007-09-22 19:49:46 A friend of mine surprised me by sending me the DVD of A Dog's Breakfast through Amazon, so I was able to see the extras (I did have the download already). In light of her kindness, I was inspired to make this: My Little Pony custom of Mars, complete with props, to sell via eBay to raise money for Doctors Without Borders. I just want to assure you that I will not make another or keep any of the money made -- I only made it for the charity efforts. Hope you don't mind, but if it's a problem (legalities or whatever), just let me know and I'll take it down! *Loved* the extras on the DVD, by the way! I'm so grateful to my friend!! I do love the music from the film, too -- it's on my "to buy when the bills are finally paid off" list. |
Fantastic! Written by NethDugan on 2007-09-22 19:40:54 It arrived in the post yesterday and I imediately stuck it into my laptop to watch it (actually, the sound of it through the letterbox woke me, how tuned in wasy I?), loved it to death. Watched the extras. Then watched it again with commentary (love your mum by the way, some one should give her a medal ). Then watched bits of it again before I had to rush to work at the cinema, and bugged everythere with 'I GOT IT!' through the cold. FANTASTIC movie, love it to death and it's interesting to see everyone play character so different to what I'm used to seeing you play. That said, not surprised in the least that you all pulled it off so well. And as it turns out, everyone is right - Mars really is the star and saviour of the movie. Needless to say, can't wait until you guys come out with the next one. Have a fantastic few weeks, and good luck with everything. |
Turd! Written by Dew on 2007-09-22 18:43:23 I don't have iTunes! I can't get stuff off iTunes! What about us superpathetic people who can't get it ourselves? Are we to resort to illegal naughtiness to get pirated copies of the soundtrack? |
Written by liamdaly on 2007-09-22 18:18:18 The song Ryan was dancing to in the film was called All 4 You by Tony Dowdy according to the credits |
All You No US Visitors! Written by liamdaly on 2007-09-22 18:11:26 @shelsfc go to ebay and buy a $10 itunes voucher I just purchased from http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZitunesfairy Its VERY EASY to setup she even gives you instructions on how to do so The song Ryan (Paul McGillion) Isnt on there! |
I want Kate's comments, too! Written by watcher652 on 2007-09-22 17:09:09 So I'm thinking you can get Kate to record her own comments and we can play them at the same time we watch the dvd. Or we can run them with the commentary on. We can tune down your words a bit and Kate can just talk over everyone. I think it could work! |
Written by shelsfc on 2007-09-22 17:07:49 The soundtrack isn't on the Irish itunes, unfortunately But I'm looking at it on the US store and giggling at the names of the tracks!! Waiting (im)patiently for the dvd to arrive...Is it October yet? |
Oops, almost forgot! Written by beeej on 2007-09-22 16:54:40 The bonus features are fantastic! Really well done! And I love the menu with all the bowls of frooties! |
Yay! *dances* Written by beeej on 2007-09-22 16:51:51 My lovely copy of A Dog's Breakfast arrived in the mail yesterday! I love the dog bowl disk lable! Totally made me giggle. I screened it for the husband last night, who hadn't been lucky enough to see it in the theater like I did. He loved it, and I laughed and giggled and snickered all the way through. It's every bit as funny on repeated viewings! |
Written by zwild1 on 2007-09-22 16:51:34 Awwww...what a cute picture of Mars! He knows how to pose for the camera, truly a sign of a great actor. Just received my copy of ADB in the mail today...was SO excited that I put it in the player right away and watched all the special features. I have to say...Jane did a FANTASTIC job of putting it all together!! Kudos to the both of you and your team. |
Written by Becky S. on 2007-09-22 15:51:37 Great to hear about the soundtrack. I'll get it downloaded as soon as I can! Tim did a fantastic job with it. (His workon 300 wasn't bad either ) Have a great weekend! |

Written by Rally Killer on 2007-09-22 15:10:35 Is that crazy song that Ryan/Paul McGillion was dancing to on there? I would so buy it if it is... then again, I may have to buy to buy it anyways... |

awesome photo of Mars Written by Sweeneybird on 2007-09-22 14:35:09 I hope you're letting poor Kate hear the commentary track - if so, I suspect you've got some head-smacking in the future, particularly for the smart remarks about her enthusiasm for Chris Judge. |
Excellent! Written by liamdaly on 2007-09-22 14:33:56 Wow Excellent, time to go buy a $10 voucher from ebay uk to redeem on US itunes store |
Love the disk Written by tembrooke on 2007-09-22 14:33:53 The dog bowl image on the DVD disk is great -- it gave me a good laugh right off the bat. That was a truly inspired idea. Also, I think I had a snippet of the soundtrack running through my head this morning. I can't imagine where else that bit of music would have come from... |
Downloaded earlier Written by APMC4CB on 2007-09-22 14:31:00 I downloaded the sound track earlier today, and been listening to it whalst doing sojme work. I have to say i love it! my favourite is the star crossed theme (reminds ma a bit of the Red Dwarf sound track) |
Written by sarblythe on 2007-09-22 14:19:16 You're certainly entitiled to your bias, but you're not wrong. The packaging and presentation is very well done! I have never used iTunes, but this is a darn good reason for me to figure it out! Thanks for keeping us up to date! |
Screenings? Written by wildcard0 on 2007-09-22 14:18:18 Any list of screenings up? If not, is there going to be one in Vancouver? I know you're both up here quite a bit. |
Written by lemonchicken on 2007-09-22 14:14:53 Adorable pic of Mars! Im off to buy an ITunes card so I can download the music. And then probably back to BestBuy to push for more copies coming in. I WANT MY MOVIE! |
