Something I feel awful about...guilt...powerful motivator...not much good on dogs unfortunately, but I must remember it when I have children. (Which I feel should be raised as in "The Sound Of Music"...BEFORE that damn nun showed up!)

Speaking of music...my motivational tunes tonight are Shriekback (how's that for a blast from the past)  It's actually from the film "Manhunter" and the track is called "The Big Hush" as well as anything from those lads known as Keane !

Point being?

Cowboy Hat Hewlett
Cowboy Me!

The guests I had the pleasure of meeting on the set of Atlantis the other week!   They were there doing "walk-ons" because they had won a charity auctions.  At the time of my Blogging I didn't know WHICH charity they had spent all that money on!  Well, I tracked it down (wasn't hard thanks to our trusty publicity department!) and it turns out to be British Columbia's Make A Wish foundation.  Thanks to our guests for spending their hard earned money to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses...how can you NOT want to do THAT!?...I mean unless you really are a McKay! ;-)

Here's all the Make-A-Wish information that I could dig up:

This is the website for the stars that made these Stargate visits a reality:
http://bc.makeawish.ca/

and here's the International version for those in more exotic locales:
http://www.worldwish.org/

Speaking of charities (groans from those who have heard this from me a million times already) I'm a big fan of Doctors Without Borders:
http://www.doctorswithoutborders.com

They've got an amazing track record, and bravely go to incredible lengths to make a real difference in some of the worst situations on earth.

So why not make a huge difference for a tiny bit of cash and make a donation to one of these fine groups of lads and ladies?  Just a thought ;-)

D!

So liking the hat!

I also go for Doctors without borders, the fact that they go out of their way to help others, sometimes even paying their own way to do so. True real-life heros!

Keane and Make a Wish. What a brilli combination.

The Animal Rescue Site is also another great way for people to help out. They've got a great program where if you click on to their ad sponsored page every day, money is donated from their ad partners to animal shelters. It's a very easy way to help out, and I've found that when people start thinking about the little, easy ways they can help, then its easier to consider the bigger ways.

Also, I tend to think that animals are so much better/smarter etc than humans. Actually, I know animals are smarter than some humans. I've yet to see my cats act as stupidly as some people do.

Anyway, if you get a chance, the site is here:

Keane are particularly cool aren't they? I've known kids who've had wishes come true because of charities like the make-a-wish Fundation, if not benefited from that very one. One of my best friends recently lost a friend to leukemia, that was a right bummer. :cry but a boy in the sixth form is beating cancer, we had all sorts of charity days last year to raise money to send to these charities. It's worth it, because it helps so many people.
Make-A-Wish

I just wanted to add that the Make-A-Wish Foundation is a wonderful charity organization. I have a cousin that was born with a brain tumor and was not expected to make it past age 5. I am happy to report that she just celebrated her 8th birthday a few weeks ago. The Make-A-Wish foundation sent her and her family to Disney World a few years ago. They said that she had a blast.
Many thanks to all who contribute.

You know, all you had to do was ask and I would have gladly told you which charity I'd donated to so that I could spend 12 hours hanging out on set, nearly running you over and getting a permanently snarky bear. :grin

I had a lot of people ask me what posessed me to get the walk-on. I figure I've had so many neat experiences in my lifetime that the kids in the Make A Wish program may never get to a chance to partake in... not to mention I had just sold my house and actually had the money to do so... I just couldn't not do it. Having a wish fulfilled may be the only real bright spot in a kid's life filled with doctors and hospital visits. Then there's the not so altruistic part; having a chance to be a part of Stargate - I just couldn't pass that up. The only other TV show that I would consider doing the same thing for would be Doctor Who.... and Farscape if it were still on.

I love Shriekback. My favorite of theirs is Big Night Music, but I enjoy their other albums as well. I particularly love the tongue-in-cheek tone of the song "Gunning for the Buddha."

If you scroll down, you will find her talking of you--how you were her favourite. Congrats!

By the way, if you liked the first one, she continued in a post here.

Indeed it is! Everything is looking great and I am a button clicker from hell so I have hit everything on the site, I think. No problem yet.
Sure wish I could win one of those charity auctions - dream on, me. :grin
