Growing up I had to be a part of some kind of extra-curricular activity. My choices were after school sports or the nerd-core art of the chess, math or debating clubs. The other side of this was that I attended an all boys school. Acting had girls. That is, after the first few junior school productions in which I played the female lead. Which, by the way, does nothing to help your high school social scene.

I don't think I'd really put the two things together yet, but I was also a huge fan of Doctor Who (the early John Pertwee and Tom Baker years) and was intent on becoming a brilliant Time Lord. When this became problematic I decided I'd just have to pretend to be one. When pretending became sadly immature and a bit creepy I thought I'd use the arcane skills I'd learned to earn a living - as an actor.
