Lester...and foot Maggie...and corner of map We really can't thank you enough for your continued enthusiasm and support of A Dog's Breakfast. You have really made this movie happen from the start with your support of the show and my strange little character. None of this would have been possible without you...Okay, now I sound like such a suck...get over yourselves and keep hounding people about the film! ;-)
Thanks to you lot, A Dog's Breakfast hit #15 on the Amazon.com Bestselling DVD list, which makes us the #4 bestselling feature film, as most of the other bestselling DVD's are television series...Hey! We should make a Television series!...That's right! we're already working on that!...I think this kind of thing could help show everyone concerned that there's a market out there for "Starcrossed" don't you think?! Ah, my subtle hinting ways.
It seems that I've done what I do every hiatus and get sick as soon as it begins. I think my body just does the whole "I think I can, I think I can" little-engine-that-could thing until it sees the light at the end of the tunnel and gets the time to crash...so I'm crashing! That said, today it's walk-ies! with Lester and Maggie (and their owners who I don't think are ready for blog fame just yet so I'll only let you see one of their feet)
Last SG1 on Friday, hasn't really sunk in yet, partially because they've been shooting the movies in tandem with us on Atlantis (and screwing up our schedule in the process...I'm sure that Judge is behind it somehow, curse you Mr. Judge! ;-) Speaking of Judge, I've got to get the nerve up to ask him about the latest film role I've started writing for him...it's a pretty different kind of thing for him, but I think he'd be amazing at it and really chew up the scenery...hoping he goes for it... rather than turning on my violently, squashing me like a bug and leaving my crumpled form in the gutter beside some lonely road...happy thoughts, happy thoughts ;-)
Thanks again!

Hiatus! Well, A Dog's Breakfast and the lovely Jane Loughman are having a grand old time at the very packed and very muddy Glastonbury music festival. I shot a quick little "Hello Glastonbury" blurb for the festival screening which I've uploaded to http://www.youtube.com/h0rrid should you be so inclined to feel a part of a festival that you're not attending...like me, for example.
I was amazed to find that you can now pre-order A
Dog's Breakfast - The DVD at Amazon.com. I can't wait to see what they do with this! We've provided Fox with some amazing extras for this thing...there's a mile a minute commentary track, deleted scenes (and these are full on scenes that I ended up removing for time...they're tons of fun, especially the extra Starcrossed pieces!) and Jane has produced a few incredible behind-the-scenes selections as well (these include interviews with Paul McGillion, Chris Judge, Kate Hewlett, Jim Menard (our cinematographer), John Lenic, Jane Loughman and Me...David Hewlett)! I also have no idea how many copies they're printing so hopefully we'll overwhelm them with orders and they'll have to do a nice big run of DVDs and we'll get this dreaded "International" release back on track and happening for the few people out there that don't live in North America ;-) If you've seen the film PLEASE review it and leave comments! The more activity on Amazon about this puppy the better!
Last day on Atlantis today...to be followed by about 2 days in bed and a whole lot of script writing for "Design of the Dead"...yay! Now if I could just persuade Jane to leave that tent in Glastonbury and come back to her two lost puppies!
Cheerio!

Looks like the votes are in and yet again the fearless squirrel minions (and by the look of it a ton of other people with apparent free-will as well ;-) have just landed Rodney M. McKay a Spacey award for Favorite TV Character (really!?). Atlantis will never be the same again. Thanks so so much for all the support and votes on this...how great is that little space-man going to look on the mantle!?
Going to Glastonbury? Jane and A Dog's Breakfast will be braving the crazy crowds (in a TENT no less!) of people much hipper and cooler than I shall ever be (or wish to be) at this years Glastonbury Music Festival! We're on the line-up with Serenity, Lord of the Rings, and Pirates of the Caribbean, Hot Fuzz and the 300 as well as every band you've ever heard of or will be hearing about in the next year...Did I mention that I have to work? ;-( So not only am I not going, I will be without Jane the entire time...Just in case you were feeling like things sucked for you right now...think again!
Shameless Self-Promotion
I'm hearing some nasty rumblings about a possible North American-only release for the A Dog's Breakfast DVD's! I'm really hoping these rumors are untrue! I can't believe that in this day and age, and with such a huge and loyal fan-base throughout the "rest of the world" (even the term "international" drives me crazy when the "rest of the world" is a tiny bit bigger and more populated than "here"!) that they are even considering being that narrow-minded. Which I hasten to add, they may not be. None of this is "official" so please don't start making a fuss...just yet. I'll keep you posted and if it looks like things are heading that way, we'll start mailing the right people dog bones or something more suitable (maybe bones for being bone-heads). Anyway, the best thing we can do right now is make sure that everyone hears about it. We need to keep the film in people's line of sight so that there's no excuse for not getting it out to the world. The more people who hear about A Dog's Breakfast the better. Please do what you can to let everyone know about the film and that it's coming out on DVD in September. Here's a few suggestions:
I've found another website that could be interesting from a marketing perspective. It's called spout.com and it's all about writing and sharing movie reviews. For those of you who have seen the film, if you can bear it, I would love to get some reviews of "A Dog's Breakfast" up there. Also please makes sure you rate it and recommend it as well. I thought it's probably a bit slimy for me to write it myself...though it did occur to me! Could we do the same on IMDB.com as well? And please feel free to do the same on any other movie related websites you find. It all helps!
Also, just a reminder about those Blogger's Choice Awards please make sure that you vote for this site once in ALL the categories. We're really hoping that this will bring in new interest as well.
As always, any brilliant ideas from you are most welcome!
Cheers,
D!
